>Created by PFR founder Doug Drinen, the Approximate Value (AV) method is an attempt to put a single number on the seasonal value of a player at any position from any year (since 1950).

>"AV is not meant to be a be-all end-all metric. Football stat lines just do not come close to capturing all the contributions of a player the way they do in baseball and basketball. If one player is a 16 and another is a 14, we can't be very confident that the 16AV player actually had a better season than the 14AV player. But I am pretty confident that the collection of all players with 16AV played better, as an entire group, than the collection of all players with 14AV."

It be a fuck up beyond belief but it would depend on what they chose instead.

He is the best player overall but picking anyone of those defensive players right ranked after him would still hit albeit instead of a slam dunk.

If they go full class 5 brown and draft a fucking QB instead of one of those elite defensive players, even after Hue said he wants Myles, it be an indication of a complete organizational meltdown.

Hard to tell because the draft could fall a lot of different ways. Personally I think they should go ILB/CB/S pretty much in that order. But it's also possible an offensive player falls and is too good to pass up at 24, probably a RB or OT

Teams that need an LT should draft one of the mid-round projects or wait until next season. There will be at least 2 immediate starters in next year's draft, and none of the top 3 LT prospects this year will be better than average in year 1.
>>
>>75302608
because Cowboys fans are the most arrogant, ignorant, just downright shitty fans on the face of the earth, even more so than Patriots fans. at least Patriots fans have a reason to gloat, Cowboys fans act like they're still in the glory days despite fucking Jacksonville having more playoff wins than the Cowboys over the last 20 years. Living in NC and working with the public, I deal with them every single day because before the panthers came along it was either Redskins or Cowboys in this region. Most redskins fans I know are reasonable people, and while I'm actually friends with a few cowboys fans when it comes to football they are just the WORST. Fuck Jerry Jones, fuck the Cowboys, and fuck Cowboys fans.

>>75303742
I mean I specifically said stop their offense, but if we're playing this game, I think their defense is going to be a step up from last year at least. Rollins and Randall both showed promise their rookie years, and they played through injury alot of last year, I know it's sort of a copout to say "well they're going to play better this year because they're healthy" but I still think both of them have potential.
Matthews was also playing though injury, and from what I hear Kenny Clark is making improvements too.
they literally just need an average defense to be unstoppable with their offense imo

>Yesterday Mike Florio reported that Stanford running back/receiver/return specialist Christian McCaffrey has declined all requests for private workouts by NFL teams. Whether this is the proper choice or not is a debate for someone else.

It's really just an unhealthy obsession at this point. Their real only interaction with Cowboy fans is through here, and even so other than like 1 obnoxious Cowboys anon that posts in this general who could just be a falseflagger, Cowboys fans in the game threads act no different than every other teams fans that post here. However because of the early perception of Cowboys fans in the early days of /sp/ (which most of the Cowboy Complainers posting now weren't even around to witness) just gets carried over to now. There are like 5 or 6 other teams with more obnoxious fans than the Cowboys. Though I will say the Mexican cowboy fans are loud and their music at tailgates is shitty. The food is good though.

The Raiders needed a QB so they took one they liked best. The Cowboys lucking into Dak Prescott (whose future success remains to be seen) isn't an example of anything. The Seahawks needed a QB and gambled on one other teams undervalued because of his size. They needed a QB, they took the one they liked the best. It has worked out (so far), as he has been good enough to win one SB because of their defense.

None of these are examples of "taking the BPA" working out.

>The Cowboys lucking into Dak Prescott (whose future success remains to be seen) isn't an example of anything. The Seahawks needed a QB and gambled on one other teams undervalued because of his size
Cowboys didn't luck into Prescott, Will McClay and Scott Linehan had Prescott valued in like the 2nd and early 3rd rounds, certainly more valued than the other 31 teams in the league. Garrett coached him in the senior bowl, and they gave Prescott extended workouts and IQ tests and such. There was no lucking into Dak Prescott, Cowboys knew that he would most likely still be there in the late 3rd and early 4th round, so they used one of their compensatory picks on him. Did they luck in the fact that he pretty much exceeded every single expectation during the season? Sure, probably only a very few amount of people thought he would have done as well as he did his rookie year. But the Cowboys didn't luck into him.

>>

there's no "might" to the 49ers needing a QB. And yes, absolutely.

>>75307690
go back to the beginning of the argument, there is no back pedal
>>
>>75307823
He would go top 3 if there was a redraft because of what the Cowboys made of him, are you retarded? Saying a player who went in a later round "would go top 3" if you re-did it is retarded, because it clearly means that they saw something in him that the other 31 teams missed multiple times. He was BPA for them alone, and obviously the opposite of need since they had a Pro Bowl QB lined up to start. Why are you so incapable of admitting you are wrong?
>>
>>75307849
you can't just call Tony Romo a "pro bow qb" and leave it at that. He was in his late 30s with an extensive injury history
>>
>>75307849
You're talking to more than one person. Yes, other teams passed on him multiple times. Oh yea, and so did Dallas. It's because nobody expected him to be that good. It turns out he is good. The number 134 pick turning out to be a franchise QB is extremely lucky and if Dallas knew he had franchise QB potential they would absolutely not have waited so long to draft him. Not sure why that bothers you so much.
>>
>>75307896
He was the established starter one year removed from the best season of his career. You're using 100% hindsight to describe a scenario that happened in the past, fuck off. There was no reason for the Cowboys to draft a QB that highly unless they valued him there, aka HE WAS THEIR BPA you fucking moron.

This is perhaps the dumbest line of reasoning I've ever seen on this board. If Dallas knew that Dak had potential, which it certainly seems like they did, but every other team had a lower grade on him, there is no possible reason for drafting him anywhere before when they knew they could get him. If you know you will be able to draft a solid QB to backup Romo in a later round, you don't draft him in the 1st round, mong. Because Dak was Dallas's highest rated player in the 3rd round, he was BPA at that point.

That's exactly my point. THEY DIDN'T NEED DAK, so they didn't select him earlier. They waited until a round where he was the best pick available, and selected him there. By your reasoning since they wanted to draft Dak they should have taken him at #4 overall because BPA doesn't exist.
>>
>the raiders are responsible for Dak2Dallas by jumping ahead of them and taking Cook
>>
What is the greatest throw you've ever seen, and how can you possibly say it ISN'T Rodgers hail mary to send the game to overtime?
>>
>>75308119
If they knew Dak would have the season he did they would have taken him #4, no question. And you're acting as if Romo hasn't been a sack away from being forced to retire for years now. Of course they needed a replacement QB, they just didn't expect him to need to play year one.

>>75308181
hail mary is a meme pass
>>
>>75308085
>The Cowboys wanted fucking Paxton Lynch over Dak
That doesn't eally mean they lucked into Dak though. Dak was one of their targets, they knew he would be there mid rounds and they had compensatory picks to use up. Just because they made a run at Lynch doesn't mean they absolutely wanted or needed him specifically. Paxton was valued in the 1st round, he was also one of the QBs on their board, why not make a run for him? They didn't get him and fell back and tried to get their other picks where they were valued.
>don't tell me they didn't fall ass first into a starting QB by accident.
They didn't. You are probably confusing the exceptional year Dak had as some sort of luck, yet you are like that other anon said, talking in hindsight. What if Cowboys got lynch and he had just as well of a season if not better than Dak? Cowboys had targets that they knew would fit their scheme and the way they wanted thier offense to run.

>I wasn't aware that Dallas knew exactly when other teams would be drafting players
It's not an exact science but it's not hard for ownes, GMs, and other people in the front office to see where and what other teams will be needed. Other teams draft needs may not be completely transparent, but it isn't secretive either.
>>
>>75308198
>If they knew Dak would have the season he did they would have taken him #4, no question
If any team knew Dak would have the season he had he would have been drafted #1 overall.
>>

>>
>>75308198
you can say that about every QB that's ever throw it except Rodgers and that offense.
It can't possibly be luck, they've connected on more hail Marys in the past 2 years than I've seen in the last 5 from the entire league

The first 4 rounds of the draft are crucial for building a team, it's where you get the vast majority of your long-term starters. With the Cowboys coming off a 4-12 season with a lot of holes on defense yet an established QB, taking another QB in the 4th round is a high selection.

might be another offensive player added to that this year, but if it's a running back it'll just be a direct emulation of what the cowboys did in 2016, so we can't really take credit for that. i'm assuming that this point we're either going to trade up or i'll hate the pick, anyway.

The only bold prediction here is 49ers taking Watson. But I can see them reaching given they're starting from a fresh slate, and that tends to happen.
Cleveland taking a QB is very reasonable and with how much hype Fournette at 4 is getting for the Jags, I can see Jets/Panthers trading up to snag him with Garrett ultimately sliding to the Jags.

How bad will the Clots do this year?

Watson would end up a Jamarcus Russell level bust if taken by the 49ers and would guarantee 5+ more years of basement dwelling as they give that joker too opportunity.
No QB in this draft is even worth a top 10 pick in all honesty as there are so many other players with higher level talent in their respective positions

I really am starting to hate this fucking place I have lurked here for 4 years and I hate almost every single one of you trips especially the Pats ones as a Pats fan. You guys are the gayest motherfuckers on this planet at least some of the trips of other teams aren't flaming homosexuals.

11-5 and a playoff win. Our defense is going to be heavily underrated and we'll be under the radar in general, sounds good to me

I will NUT if Garrett falls to Jacksonville and their line is Ngakoue&Fowler Jr/Campbell/Jackson/Garrett

Holy fuck what a pass rush, that's four players that have consistently commanded double teams against high level competition
