We already discussed this. Turns out the players bail out the AI 99% of the time due to poor tactical decisions. It's not cheating, it just blows SI's excuse of the AI always adapting to your tactics and what not, or being incredible tactics masters to explain away how you lost without just telling you that you got fucked by the ME. Note that DM(D) was actually pretty decent in FM15 because they didn't have hard-coded Close Down More like in the latter versions. Which means he was actually holding the fucking midfield. Now you have the DLP(D) who isn't a good defender at heart unless you have Busquets, or the Anchor Man which is a limited DM(D).

why is there no skins that help you see what role opponenet use in thier formations in Fm17?

So I'm a conference south team with good defense, passing and technique (for the league) but kind of slow. My main strikers only have pace 9 and 12 and I can't find anyone better who'll sign for me.

I finished 9th last season playing 4-1-2-3 DM and 4-2-1-3 with a narrow, direct-passing, counter tactic, but my wingers and striker weren't very reliable and some games I had a lot of trouble creating chances.

Is it worth trying a short-passing possessing tactic at such a low level? I'm beginning to think it'd suit my players better

Anything works, just make sure it's a good tactic and you'll wreck the league, non-league is hella easy.

short passing + "defensive" means you'll generally keep the ball with pointless sideways passing, but allows the players some occasional freedom to ignore their instructions in favour of more direct, high-tempo play if there's a good chance for a break. one or two really fast players up front or out wide is usually enough to get results

It's still true, however I find that in FM17 keepers are more proactive in that regard. The issue that is still present is that you can't train a keeper to become a SK. Their Rushing Out won't change for example, and their Passing/First Touch combo takes ages to improve.
