Ohio State's is this weekend.
Should actually be a good show. The major questions around the team this year are how are the receivers going to play and can they replace 3 first round?
Since no one ever runs the ball a whole lot in spring games we should get a pretty clear answer to both.

Wrong. Blue blood is a term to describe teams that are consistently elite (by your definition), over years and decades.

When you say elite, you're really meaning a 1 season wonder.
>>
>>75178587
stay mad that your team in in the tubes
>>
>>75178494
tbqh Michigan was never a blue blood in the first place. They have 1 national championship since 1948, and that 1 national championship was exactly two decades ago.

Michigan likes to hype themselves up for all their wins in the first 4 decades of college football, but the fact of the matter is that they're nothing but a washed up team. They're Tennessee with more hype -if that's even possible- but hell at least Tennessee has two national championships since the Korean War, and one of those is more recent than Michigan's most recent.

Florida State doesn't get in to the playoffs after Bama beats them soundly in the opener. They'll probably win the ACC Atlantic but drop 1 or 2 games to some combination of NC State, Louisville, and Clemson. They'll go up against VT in the ACC championship and despite a win they won't make the playoffs.

I'm going to guess the CFP teams in no particular order are:

Alabama
Oklahoma State
USC
Ohio State

Tim Harbaugh gets put on the hot seat for losing to aOSU three times in a row and Gus Malzahn gets fired for losing to UGA and Alabama for the fourth straight year.

>>
>>75196587
It's probably not going to pass though. Was only submitted because yesterday was the deadline.

Still, I think legislation like this is smart. The NCAA cost the state of North Carolina a shit load of money by acting political. It adversely affected all of these universities that probably opposed HB2 in the first place. Good on the North Carolina legislature. Over at Reddit they think this is ridiculous but it only makes perfect sense.

Duke would be royally fucked if UNC and NC State left the NCAA. It doesn't really matter if Duke leaves or not.

>>75196787
You're not following I think. The bill states that, if passed, UNC and NC State will leave the NCAA if the NCAA boycotts events in the state again. The other Anon was suggesting that Wake Forest would leave too, probably because the administration is conservative and supports the bill and as an act of solidarity.

If i'm reading the article right, these legislators are basically saying that if the ACC boycotts them again, they'll leave and some other conference will take them, thereby punishing the ACC.

This.... this is so fucking stupid I can't even wrap my head around it. For the above paragraph to make sense, you have to believe that the B1G, Big 12 or whoever would supposed take them would be 100% OKAY WITH HB2. That's not even reality, which means these legislators do not live in reality. I am in awe of how fucking stupid these men are.
>>
>>75199555
Here's the thing about that-- once upon a time, marriage was neither a state nor national issue, it was between you and your church. In the 1950s "family values" organizations passed laws that rewarded people for getting married. Things like housing credits, tax credits. Well now gay couples are just asking for the same thing, so because those original laws were federal laws, SO MUST THEY ALL BE. So equal marriage is literally the Republicans fault.

Why would the B1G ever host their tournaments in NC? They have access to Chicago, NYC, and DC. 3 major cities that make Charlotte look small time.

Most of the Big 12 teams are in the midwest so they just stick with the major Texas cities and Kansas City for their tournaments.

the SEC might have some wiggle room but Charlotte will have a ton of steep completion to host the tournaments with, Atlanta, New Orleans, Houston, and the major florida cities always being in the mix.

All major conferences rotate championship sites for all sports except football. NC would come up sooner or later. Your argument hinges on, "The SEC or B1G would never, ever put an event in NC and NC would be cool with that," and if that's true, why even leave the ACC, because that's exactly what's happening right now.

I don't think you understand the issue. People coming to a state means money while the tourney is in town. You think UNC would join the SEC but turn down SEC money? Have you suffered a head injury?

Vanderbilt tried to do that in the 50's with Southern Methodist, Rice, Duke, and Tulane. They were going to call it the "Magnolia League", similar in style to the Ivy League. But SMU and Rice didn't want to give up their share of Cotton Bowl money and Duke didn't want to leave their rivalry with UNC. Now if you added in Miami, Wake, and a few other private schools in the Carolina-Virginia area like Elon, William & Mary, Furman/Wofford, and Davidson that conference could work. But it'll never happen.

Well no, but there's a phenomenal amount of ignorance still out there about the trans community, and "I don't understand it, therefore it sucks" was reasoning I thought was reserved for /tv/.

>The entire human history of public restrooms
You show your dick at the door before you go in? Dude, that's not how bathrooms work. Where the fuck do you live.

>the ACC would be ruined without UNC
First of all, the ACC is already shit. Second of all, "state laws" doesn't apply here. Non-discrimination based on gender is a federal statute. This is why the South is a laughingstock worldwide.

Yes those four cities. So if in this hypothetical situation, one of two things would happen after NC/NCST is added:

1) The B1G continues to never play the basketball tourney in NC, despite NC's huge basketball history. The state makes no money off this. So, zero difference from how things are now, in the ACC

OR

2) The B1G tries to put it there because Muh Basketball History, but the NC Legislature tries to again pass some ignorant bullshit, and the tourney is pulled, resulting in.... wait for it... no tourney.

There's no scenario here in which NC gets the tourist dollars it wants without repealing this bullshit. If they want conference games, if they want the NBA All-Star Game, quit acting like the uneducated mouth-breaking rednecks the entire world thinks you are.
>>
>>75215849
If you were being contrary, a liberal would call you contrary. Contrary is:
You: I want to eat at McDonald's.
Me: NO. BURGER KING.

That's contrary. That's not what is occurring here. What is occurring here is ignorance. That would be more like this:

Me: I want to eat at Burger King.
You: I HEAR THEY PUT GROUND-UP PLACENTA IN THE MILKSHAKES.
Me: What kind of dumbfuck ignorant hillbilly bullshit is this.
You: Typical libfag, won't listen to a different opinion.

...............See the difference? It's subtle, but I think you can spot it.

Fixed that for you.

No but seriously, it has nothing to do with UNC's worth as a program (or HB2) and everything to do with the SEC wanting to expand its regional footprint. They'd be more likely to opt for Houston than UNC. The SEC has the Southeast locked down tight. They want to expand west.

That being said, the B1G or the Big 12 would both want in on UNC. (if the SEC passed up on them, which I think they would)

>>75227478

the demand for tickets have gone from casuals who have never attended the school but want to go see the games. So they either have to raise the prices, expand the stadium, or reduce the number of cheap tickets students get to allow more non student fans to buy seats.
>>
>>75227439

Some schools don't want to increase attendance beyond a certain number of students. Raising tuition as well as raising grade standards for freshmen and transfers are common ways to control that number. And Bama might not be interested in becoming as large as ucf or ohio state.

>>
>>75228752
You have literally no idea what you're talking about. The SEC already has a huge portion of Texas with Texas A&M. What they don't have is any part of North Carolina. UNC is a public ivy, has one of the best basketball programs in the country, and they are located in the 9th largest state by population. There is a LOT more money to be had in North Carolina as a whole than there is in Houston.

But this is a ridiculous topic. UNC will never leave the ACC because this bill isn't even going to pass.

And for the record, if the SEC was to expand west they wouldn't grab Houston. They'd grab one of the Oklahoma schools first.
>>
>>75226657
Should have gone to a school that doesn't fucking suck.

No, you don't know what you're talking about. If the SEC picked up both Oklahoma schools and they managed to somehow get every fan in Oklahoma to tune in to SEC games, they'd get 3.8 million people.

With Houston, they'd net 6.5 million potential just in the city metro area. Not to mention fans in South and East Texas.

Stop being a anti-Texas jackoff. The numbers are against you.

I remember at nebraska one of the advisers talked about when they implemented a system to help students get game tickets. They had to change some stuff because it became an issue for students who stuck around.

No, the entire state is a faint shade of burnt orange, with the exception of Lubbock and tiny pockets around Waco and College Station.

The Houston metro area is the largest TV market the SEC currently has the reach and the interest to grab. Dallas-Fort Worth would be better, but TCU isn't as much of a draw in DFW as UH is in Houston.

But the SEC isn't aiming for small fish like that. Houston's only benefit is that they're in Houston, but they don't have fans and they don't have pedigree. Texas A&M also doesn't want another school in their general vicinity.

Oklahoma and Okie Lite make the most sense. This is indisputable. It makes for more compelling games and they're both better schools than Houston. Houston will NEVER happen.

>but they don't have fans and they don't have pedigree
The SEC doesn't care about pedigree. If they did, when they raided the Big 12 they would have taken OU or Baylor instead of Mizzou and A&M. The SEC is looking for small to medium sized schools, in areas where the SEC doesn't have a footprint, that they can pimp out for money.

the funniest thing is, the sports conferences backed off after NC "repealed" HB2, but by "repealed" they basically changed nothing and prolonged the bill until they all get reelected

Jeff Blake of ECU

Hero of the 1991 Peach Bowl against NC State. Came back from 17 points behind for a win.

ECU used the grid iron to solidify its position in the state as a relevant football program. The state legislature soon afterward passed a law requiring NC state and UNC to schedule ECU, and additionally granted ECU its own medical school.

ECU has won the past 2 matchups with NC State (even during a 3-9 season last year) and UNC (giving UNC their biggest loss in program history--70 points).
>>
>>75279532

It's hard to hate on Kansas. I think they're one of the more likable P5 franchises. They have history, and have succeeded, but were never exactly expected to be a top tier program. Instead they've remained competitive in the B1G for years.

They have a /comfy/ place in the Big 10
>>
ECU has a proven "free agent" QB transferring this fall for his final year of eligibility.

He's reuniting with Duke's former OC, now ECU's head coach. Hopefully last year's dismal performance is the end of the re-build.

After Sirk finishes, ECU has a 4 star commit that may begin play immediately in 2018.

ECU has struggled some in the past 2 seasons; it is past time for a return to success with all the old rivalries brought from the old C-USA to the AAC.

utterly dropped. You know how I know you're a millenial? I don't give a fuck about A&M, but if you watched any college football in the 90s you'd know they were dominant in the late SWC under Slocum.

Also, G5 is winning the Access Bowl against P5s 2-1

Even so, as you said.

Besides, the whole argument was kinda pointless. The SEC is never going to add Houston because A&M already gives them the Houston market and more, because unlike Houston, A&M graduates live and work all over Texas.

I can say this having attended UH - the Cougars are irrelevant outside of Houston and barely relevant inside Houston. They're so insignificant that I'd be willing to bet LSU and OU probably outstrip them on a season-to-season basis except for one or two years when they have coaches like Sumlin or Herman to give them hope. Even if they become successful, their problem is that coaches will always leave for the bigger schools because they're a stepping-stone program. Even A&M, which sucked ass pretty much the entire 2000s despite having some solid NFL tier talent, is probably at the point where if they became more than an 8-4 team, they'd be able to retain coaches because they're loaded and they're willing to use the money to invest in athletics. Even if UH ponies up a UT/A&M type salary to the coach, they suffer from being unable to boast the same facilities and willingness to invest in facilities. They can't razzle-dazzle the recruits like the coaches in Austin or College Station can.

Tldr; UH will always be irrelevant when compared to the two big Texas schools

This is a lie and it is totally unsupported by market numbers. Houston consistently only watches Houston based teams. Viewership for the Cowboys never gained in Houston the ways they did in other parts of Texas after the Oilers left town.

You can jack off to Aggie all you'd like, but it doesn't change the fact that A&M not only does not carry the Houston market, but also carries a limited market around College Station. The majority of CFB fans in Texas wear burnt orange, and in Houston more fans support UH than A&M or any other Texas school, besides perhaps UT.

Houston is a enigma in Texas. They have their own market and care fuck all about sporting norms in other regions of the state. Literally Google the numbers you illiterate fuck.

Army is trying to start a hype train to get into the AAC.

I like the idea, but it'll be the final nail in the coffin for any "Power 6" aspirations.

That's not necessarily a bad thing--being known as the premier G5/mid-major conference has its own charm.
>>
>>75308173

Since teams have to be added in pairs (or even 4 if the AAC goes all out for the first super conference)....

Who comes in with Army?

App State?

Southern Miss?

Rice?

Or could Air Force possibly be lured over into the AAC if Army and Navy are together? "The American" is the most fitting name for such a conference.
>>
>>75308202

>other possibilities:

Marshall

Troy

Western Kentucky

LA Tech

Old Domion
>>
>>75308173
P6 was a meme to begin with. Plus, Army is on the way up, and the Army/Navy rivalry is among the best in all of college football. It's better than any football rivalry in the PAC-12 or ACC, for instance.
>>
>>75308202
Nah, Air Force wouldn't want to leave their regional rivals just to third wheel for Army and Navy
>>
>>75308173
First of all, Army isn't on the way up, they're fucking Army.

Second of all, the AAC has repeatedly stated they have zero interest in expanding.

Third of all, if the AAC did take Army, they would only take one additional team to get to 14 in football, UNLESS UConn simultaneously leaves, which is also a possibility.

What team would join with? Difficult to say, because the answer will be influenced by the 2017 football season. If Lane Kiffin gets 12 wins at FAU, they're fucking in. If not, no. The powers that be really are that fickle.

WKU would be the perfect choice (basketball), but media-market-wise, a FL or TX school fo' sho'.

Watch this space.

Rice is the only G5 school in Texas worth grabbing, and the AAC already has the Houston market nailed down with UH.

There's really nothing in Florida worth grabbing for the AAC. FAU and FIU are "literally who?" schools, one flash in the pan season with Kiffon won't change that. UCF and USF additionally have strong regional presences.

I've always contended that the SEC chose the red headed step children from the Big 12 anyways. If they had wanted to cripple that conference, they would have taken Oklahoma or Texas. The Big 12 didn't lose anything in A&M that they couldn't replace with TCU, and Mizzou seems to be shitting it up ever since the move.

The Big 12 might, MIGHT, take back Texas A&M, if only for MUH TEXAS feels and the like. They would not take back Mizzou. Not in their current shape.

App State, WKU, LA Tech, and Troy all have impressive on field resumes, but they don't have the history, fanbase, or brand recognition (possible exception for App State). I won't even mention Rice or Old Dominion.

These are the realistic choices:

WKU has a pretty decent history and fanbase, and it's getting better. People forget how young USF's program is.

Part of me wants all the "elite" G5 directional schools in the AAC just for the names though.

South Florida
Central Florida

You've got "central", but you're missing "Middle."

Grab MTSU and you're set

Fun Belt has that matched set of "Mountains and Sea"

I actually think their QB is going to do really well throughout his career.

They're a father/son duo, with the head coach.

That's kind of special, in a "Remember the Titans" kind of way.

Neither are affiliated anymore.

All of the above are still actively affiliated with or run by their respective churches.

Ah.

Fun fact:

UNC was founded by Freemasons, and was the first public school in the nation.

The campus is laid out along the positions of a Masonic lodge.

As if the SEC administration would want to deal with the cancer that is Texas Football. They might have taken Oklahoma and still may, but Texas doesn't like to share and Alabama/LSU want none of that.

Also, TCU is not a A&M replacement in any sort of way. They're like a less shitty Baylor.

He's bretty gud at offense.

You're retarded. I encourage everyone else in this thread to stop replying to this guy.

And even your top 2 are debatable.
>>

The SEC would have to take both Okie schools, since the state requires it.

That really would signal the end of the the Big XII though. I suppose Texas would go independent, and everyone else would fuck off or get absorbed into the various G5 conferences.

It would be the best thing to happen to C-USA in a decade.

>130 days left until college football returns

how have you been coping, /cfb/?

Rockets are in the playoffs and have to beat OKC followed by the Spurs followed by Golden State just to face LeBron for the title. That's going to burn a few weeks off of the calendar for me, at least.

The past few days I've really missed it for some reason.

I've watched some 2016 highlight reels on YouTube when I'm working.

Can we agree the playoffs need to stay at only 4 teams? Yes the NYE games were boring, but that just means the rankings need to be better.

A 6, 8 or 16 team playoff is just fucking silly
>>
>>75326510
No. 8 teams is the way to go.
>All 5 P5 Champs
>Best G5
>2 Wild Cards

Am I the crazy one?
>>
>>75326510

Yeah, I'm with >>75326688

At a minimum all the P5 champions and the best G5 should be included in the playoff.

2 at large bids would even it out and keep teams competing late into the season.
>>
>>75326510
that is literally the only thing about this whole thing I can't agree on, 4 teams is off-the-wall stupid. argue over the structure all you want but there needs to be 6 or 8 teams.
