>mfw people actually thought Khan had a chance to beat Canelo

Why are boxing fans so dumb?
>>

>>

>>
>>75135819
>>75136543
>Rios vs Alvarado
I'll add it but later.
>>
>>75135887
It's a real problem with boxing fans overrating and underrating fighters. That and I've noticed that fans tend to bandwagon other people's opinions so it snowballs into a sizable portion of fans believing the exact same thing. I remember on
r/boxing
everyone was convinced that Tyson Fury's only chance against Klitschko was a KO just because some well known users said it and people just parroted it.

Canelo's been honestly underrated for while now. People thought that Perro was gonna beat him after he was "exposed" by Mayweather, but we all know that didn't happen. All this GGG ducking has people thinking that Canelo is worse than he actually is. Like GGG vs Canelo would be a pretty competitive fight but everyone's acting like he'll be laid out in the first round.
>>
>>75126524
I'd rather see Pac fed to Crawford, I think he needs it more than Lomachenko. It's unfortunate but the way fighters are viewed is based almost entirely on the number of recognizable names on their resume.

Neither fight will happen, of course.
>>
>>75135887

Difference between wanting Khan to beat Canelo, and actually thinking he had a legitimate chance.

Like, I wanted Khan to shock the world, and thought he had like a sliver of a chance. But I never actually thought Khan would beat Canelo.
>>
>>75137499
>People thought that Perro was gonna beat him after he was "exposed" by Mayweather
I didn't see anyone say that. Angulo was never anything other than a tough guy who was willing to trade; exactly what style Canelo is great at fighting.
>>
Why do Americans always say "Chris Eubanks Junior " every fucking american
>>
>>75137690
There were a people who gave Angulo a good chance to beat him. Angulo had just come off of a very close fight with Lara and knocked hm down twice. Although I guess it was a symptom of this>>75137594, where people were just hoping for Canelo to lose.
>>
>>75137499
The flipside of this is that the pool of potential PPV buyers is heavily casual, so if you can't convince them to bandwagon it limits how big a fight can get. Not saying it's ideal but it has to be like this until somebody figures out how to move away from PPV and onto some kind of free platform.
>>
Call me crazy, but I think Tevin Farmer could beat Lomachenko.
>>
>>75137752

It could happen. Netflix's whole existence is based on one-upping the premium channels and sports programming is one of the last things they're not going head-to-head with them on.

Boxing's present is already based around the internet since it's impossible to follow the full world scene without streaming, it only makes sense that its future will go further in that direction. Top Rank undercards and Golden Boy's ESPN show are on free legit streams so the powers that be seem to be aware that there's a huge untapped audience of broke NEET streamers .

He was serving a de facto suspension for doping. If you hate the guy just keep waiting, there's no way he'll be able to get his fat ass into the same shape it was in two years ago.

Lomachenko vs Pacquiao at 147 - Pacquiao Rigondeaux vs Crawford at 140 - Crawford. Lomachenko vs Rigondeaux at 130 - Lomachenko

Well Loma seems to have the swagger in-ring, so it's possible to cash in on that; the guy taunted as much as RJJ.
Whether he will connect with casuals is sort of dependent on off-ring actions, but he seems to have turned some heads with his fights.
>>
>>75148447
>is Lomachenko gonna be Top Rank's next golden goose after his fight?

No. Casuals like KO artists like GGG and AJ, they don't want to see tappy stuff however impressive it is. If boxing cant provide that they'll just go to EDGY EPIC BLOOD LUCKY 1 PUNCH KO BECAUSE NO GLOVES ufc again.
>>
>>75148504
>Rigo was perfect

Only a casual trying too hard would ever make this comment. Rigo is perfect for literally nothing, he's the biggest anti-draw in all of boxing for very good reasons.
>>
>>75148447
Lets see if the viewership even surpasses 800k

I think the best path for Loma in terms of building his audience would be Salido 2, Gamboa and then Mikey. Corrales and Berchelt are good fighters but no one knows who they are yet

In the US at least it's about name recognition, casuals need to be able to pull up Wikipedia and say "oh, it's the guy that beat [x]". Mayweather stank out the joint again and again with boring decisions on PPV and still built himself into a massive draw by getting names like Gatti and de la Hoya on his record. If the Bobfather had the nuts to feed Pacquiao to him he could be huge.

That's not what I meant. Alvarez can't make 154 forever - he's fighting Chavez at 164 or something - so he's going to have to return to middleweight eventually. If Golovkin has all 4 major belts then Alvarez will have to come to him and meet his terms because there's no weak titleholder to snipe. If they let Golovkin sit out and lose momentum AND left Saunders open for a fight with Alvarez then they couldn't have possibly bungled the situation any worse.
>>
>>75158730
Seriously. I have the worst feeling Canelo /Golden Boy is going to fuck Golovkin. I think if GBP goes around and makes the BJS fight Golovkin should just move to 168 and forget about Canelo

Most of the people who go to the boxing in the UK aren't boxing fans, they're Matchroom/general big event fans. They like whatever Sky has hyped to them at the half time of the football, whether that's darts or boxing or whatever. Without Hearn to hype him none of those people will care about loma.

As for people who love boxing, of course all of those people love him and would love to pay to see him.

Yup it was National Harbor. The venue itself was a theater so the audience didn't surround the ring. But it was really cool to see boxing back in DC, so the crowd was electric, despite not a lot of seats.
MGM in DC is nowhere as close as MGM Grand in Vegas, but it's still fun because of the Casino and some of the restaurants; you can also take a shuttle to the Harbor.

He struggled with Fury's reach and couldn't really adjust. Joshua can't move like that but it's still a huge problem for a fighter as tentative as Klitschko. Plus he's coming off a career-high layoff and we don't know how much he may have declined since he's been out. Hope I'm wrong but I'm predicting a boring decision win for Joshua.
>>
>>75178055
I think AJ will stop him or at the very least go for a stoppage win.
>>
>>75178097
I think he'll be wary of Klitschko's power, I don't see him pushing the issue unless something crazy happens. Joshua's used to fighting smaller guys, too.
>>
>>75178220
I don't think Klitschko is much bigger than Dominic Brezeale
>>
>>75178259
They're probably about the same size but Breazeale doesn't use his reach nearly as well. Klitschko's a very limited fighter but he's got a great jab & grab game.
>>
>Daily reminder that Fury barely beat Wlad, in a really boring fight.

Can we stop acting like Fury completely dominated Wlad? And can we also stop acting like Wlad is finished because he lost a super close fight?

I like Fury, but I think because he's gone people are exaggerating his performance.
>>
>>75178366
>grab game
I don't believe, at his current age, that Klitschko could out clinch someone of AJs size. It's obvious one of his greatest tools and I can't imagine him being able to use it to the same effect that he usually does/could.

>>75178472
"dominant" as in he won decisively.
>>
>>75178472

He pretty much won every round. Wlad is a faggot. Fight was shit, like every other Wlad fight since Corrie Sanders railed his boipussy
>>
>>75178540
>>75178577

I agree that Fury won most rounds, but they were close.

Like Fury probably just took most rounds by like a few punches.
>>
>>75178540
>I can't imagine him being able to use it to the same effect that he usually does/could
I don't either, but I think he'll be able to do just enough to keep the rounds close and uneventful. Again, I'm predicting a Joshua win.
>>
>>75178807
The real question is where does AJ go from a Klitschko victory? Parker vs Fury winner?
>>
>>75178884
That's a tough one. Personally I think Parker is going to beat Hughie and fight Tyson after that...we could see a Whyte rematch or maybe Ruiz, something like that. Tyson-Joshua could happen depending n how he looks.

Wilder's people aren't desperate enough to send him overseas yet but it could happen soon, I think they realize that they're running out of time to secure a big payday before he gets beat.

>Due to numerous requests from readers wanting to know what really happened between Erik Morales and Floyd Mayweather when they sparred at Big Bear, CA, Diamond Damon went right to the source. Erik was not at home but I did speak with Erik's chief second Fernando Fernandez who was there when they sparred. He told me that when Erik and Floyd were sparring together on the first day that Floyd was trying to teach Erik some of his defensive moves and Erik told him "No way, you can't do it like that or you'll get hit"

>Floyd didn't believe him so Erik started started feinting him and then peppering him with shots. Fernando said Erik did land some big shots on Floyd and that Floyd looked really surprised and eventually stormed out of the ring all pissed off. The next day they were supposed to spar again but Floyd didn't show up, electing to train in the afternoon instead of in the morning with Erik. The same story was told to me by Erik's brother Diego Morales, the WBO super flyweight champion

The thing that gives me pause is that the Jennings looked good and Fury won was to be constantly moving around the ring and great head movement so never giving wlad a chance anything to settle and aim at. Joshua doesn't fight like that at all, granted he's big which will help but he'll have to beat Klitschko in a way nobody has looked even remotely capable of beating him before to win.

Pulev is IBF mandatory, Ortiz is WBA mandatory. Parker and Wilder take priority as unifications. If he beats Klitschko I think Eddie will want Wilder or Parker but Parker might lose, even if Hughie can't punch you overlook a 6'7 man that can move at your peril.
>>
>>75181499
Would Wilder take that fight? He was getting beaten by Washington who is a complete noboy and he could probably make a decent living fighting bums in Alabama for the rest of his career so why give that up?.
>>
>>75181517

I think Lou DiBella has no interest in doing that fight this year because he knows he's likely to lose and both him and Wilder would prefer to fight Parker who they keep calling out (and that would put him on 2 titles if he won to give him leverage). Parker's team seem really game and if there's money in a Wembley fight they will probably do it.
>>
>>75181144
This is a great point, but it still sticks out to me that Fury and Jennings are the only decent guys he's fought his size. Klitschko can be a very tentative fighter and doesn't really adjust his game when things go wrong, I really don't think he'd have been anything special if he was an average sized guy.

Do agree with you in general, and still think I'm backing AJ but I don't think it's outrageous to pick klitschko at all.

For what it's worth Dave Allen was on a podcast the other day and having sparred a few hundred rounds with AJ and a few dozen with Klit says he sees no way in which AJ can win. That he's holding a lot of glass and is ultimately a pretty poor boxer.

Interestingly he also said Warrens new signing Dubois is far more impressive both physically (in that he can man handle AJ to an extent but Dubois is like a brick wall) and skills wise in that he's grown up as a boxer his while life rather than being a great athlete in general who came to it late.

>>75183238
I liked Lomachenko for his amateur career, he is a fucking animal. Just wait till he starts sitting on his punches in his future fights against better fighters, I guarantee you that if he keeps staying at 130 not a single fighter, not a single one will go distance with him. At 135 I can't guarantee you that.

You guys probably don't understand, but as someone from the Soviet block, currently the best fighters, divisions apart, are these:

1. Lomachenko
powergap beyond imagination
2. GGG
3. Beterbiev
4. Usyk
5. Kovalev
6. Gvozdyk

I like Kovalev the most because he represents Russian spirit the best, but there's no chance he will have a successful career even if he knocks Ward out in the next fight. If he faces a good puncher, he will get ko'd. I think probably people don't understand boxing if they think Kovalev is number 1 pound for pound. He is just stupid, his jokes aren't even him playing 'psychological games', kovalev is legitimately dumb. He get over his head that people tell him he won against Ward the first time and he has no discipline...

>>75183290
I want him to fight Salido the most, then next dream fight is Rigondeaux (only fight in which Lomachenko wins by decision, even though fights smaller guy), then Mike Garcia. Mike Garcia is closest, but will be ugly fight. You see different Lomachenko against Garcia, he will be much more defensive and 12 rounds most likely. Robert Easter Jr is also interesting.
>>
>>75183362
Completely wrong to rate Kovalev below GGG Beterbiev and Usyk. None of them have done anywhere near what he has done or particularly look capable of doing it. Though I agree there's at least an argument for Loma being above him.

No. Beterbiev beat Kovalev and he also beat Usyk once, just got robbed. GGG is by far the best of this bunch. I will tell you why Beterbiev is better - he is more powerful than Kovalev and may be even Usyk despite being a weight class lower and he has very solid foundations, which Kovalev doesn't have. But then again, in pros it's a bit different, may be I'm underselling Kovalev here, but don't be surprised if you see for example that from now on his record will be 5 straight losses. I can't say that about Usyk or Beterbiev, they are bound to be more consistent.

>>75183405
Berinchyk is cool, I like him, but he has always been in the shadows of the others. May be he translates better in the pro game, it's early to say. Shelestyuk is unimpressive and he will lose against top guys guaranteed.

Derevyanchenko I like, but honestly I didn't follow him too much, he's also been in the shadows. I do think he is better than Shelestyuk and he might become a middleweight contender, but he's already old. In amateurs onceagain - below Loma/Gvozdyk/Usyk.
>>
>>75183870
Even if you take out the Kovalev win Ward has beaten 5-10 fighters that are better than GGG's best EVER win which he arguably lost and has been his only real test in his entire career. You're an idiot if you think it's even close p4p between the 2 of them.
>>
>>75183955
>No. Beterbiev beat Kovalev and he also beat Usyk once

Amateur boxing doesn't count, it's a different sport to the one everyone in this thread follows.

>Usyk despite being a weight class lower and he has very solid foundations, which Kovalev doesn't have

Kovalev has never looked as bad as Usyk has in his last 2 fights in his entire career. Particularly against Hunter Usyk looked bang average and only won the fight because he had better stamina. Skill wise he was no better than Hunter at all.

>GGG is by far the best of this bunch

Wrong again. Kovalev has beaten Ward (he won that) Chilemba, Pascal, Hopkins and Cleverly. GGG lost his first real test against Jacobs and was very lucky to get a dodgy decision.

> can't say that about Usyk or Beterbiev, they are bound to be more consistent.

Because they're busy padding their records against nobodies while Kovalev is at the end of his career taking on the biggest tests he can.

You may be right with regards to amateur boxing, but so far as the pro scene goes you're dead wrong. Kovalev is p4p #1 easily for me with only Lomachenko even in the conversation. Usyk and Beterbiev are promising but have done nothing to earn the kind of praise you're giving them.
>>
>>75183985

Everything Jacobs can do, Ward can do better and he lost to Jacobs. There really isn't much else to say on the matter to be honest.
>>
>>75184179
people probably dont know, but Simakov had a tough camp against hard hitting guys and that killed him. That and his corner that didn't stop the fight. It wasn't all Kovalev just having a killer punch. In fact he didn't start punching strong and being perceived as a KO artist until the pro game, when he put on more weight (he was middleweight in amateor)

Kovalev is much much more of a jab-jab-jab-jab-jab and again fucking jab and then try the right hand fighter than a KO artist, it's just that he is so good at the jab game and his footwork is so underrated that he manages to accumulate damage and then KO the guys. If he wants to win the Ward fight he should in fact forget about throwing the right hand at all and should just jab the entire fight, he has a better jab than Ward and it could be even a power punch. May be he should try jab and take it slowly 8 rounds without giving any space and winning rounds and then towards end start throwing the right much more often.
>>
>>75184217

i know it sounds like an expert sitting and in bed and of course this is very difficult in reality, but ideally Kovalev should jab Ward for 8 rounds, lock his head when he tries to get inside and then go for Ward's body and feint that a lot. And then when it gets into Ward's head by the late fight time, he should feint what he was doing till then and instead throw a right. I think he was wrong in the first fight that he didn't go for body shots. Even if it meant Ward could land a good left hook once in a while..it's still worth it.

The GGG fanboys have become as bad as the Mayweather groupies at his peak. It's fucking embarrassing how they'll suck him off no matter how bad he looks, whoever he ducks and whatever he does. I actually don't think he'll win but I hope to shit he does just to shut them all up.

I never said Mayweather was bad, I said his fans were insufferable and unable to see him ever doing anything bad (and he definitely arguably lost a couple of fights in his career). GGG's are the same.
>>
>>75184348
Those Mayweather groupies are still around and they're worse than ever, they just support Ward, Wilder, Spence, etc., now

At least GGG groupies don't type like a Wyatt Mann comic

Why is there like 5 Tom Brady threads when the NFL season ended 2 months ago and doesn't start for another 4 months
>>
>>75186510
Exactly my point, people are far more fanatical in other sports for a good few reasons.

>People will become fans of a player purely because they're already a fan of the team they're on. A team unlike a boxer can go on indefinitely so you can stay a fan forever.

>The entire football industry is essentially on the same side in wanting to push the NFL and give platforms for its stars, in boxing the rival promoters refuse to work together.

>Big stars on a football team can be carried by their team once they pass their prime which obviously can't happen in boxing, once you're done you're done.

>There are only 32 NFL quarterbacks where there are practically unlimited boxers

etc etc, not to say boxers never get obsessive fandoms because they do and I was whining about a couple of them, but it's far less common for all these reasons

To beat Ward your entire camp has to be focused on fighting out of the clinch and breaking clean without taking his weak but scoring inside shots.

Ward, who's would be bigger on the night, would just get inside and smother Gggs offence.
