I think the problem isn't so much that the knees were legal, it's that there wasn't an actual stoppage. Time got called on the presumption that the knees were illegal.

What I haven't understood is whether the fight got called by the doctors not believing Weidman was fit to continue, or by Miragliotta & co. because they didn't really have any procedure in place in the event of that kind of mistake.
Depending on the two it could mean the difference between the fight being overturned to a NC or not.
