IMO that wasn't the part I disliked the most about that drive (or a lot of Clemson's drives). Clemson pushed off and picked a LOT in the championship game and rarely, if ever, got flagged for it. On the last drive a Clemson WR pushed off to make a big reception if I remember correctly.

Southern Miss and ECU had a pretty legit rivalry for decades. It's a shame they got left behind in conference realignment. The AAC is the collection pot for most of the directional schools of note.

Slightly different situation, but similar. Up until 1972, Southern Miss' mascot was actually the "Southerner". The mascot was a cartoony, alternate color version of Colonel Reb. OG C-USA was always the top mid-major conference, basically full of BCS-busters east of (and including) Texas.

I certainly remember seeing a LOT of those teams play in Greenville at ECU as a kid.

The arc of top level cfb is bending toward 16 team conferences; I think the same is true for the G5, but along much more geographically logical lines.

Seeing some of those old rivalries would be nice, I miss Marshall and Southern Miss games as an ECU fan, but that feels more nostalgic than progressive.

But maybe ECU will always be a mid-major with the directional name. Maybe I should embrace the G5 moniker for the level that it is. It certainly makes wins over "P5" teams all the sweeter at Dowdy Ficklen.
