I want to get into watching soccer, how do I choose a league and team to watch?
>>
Locate your city club and follow it, go to games, etc.

If you don't have a club in your city, locate the closest one within a half day trip and follow it.

If you still don't have a club to follow, move to a better area.

>step a: figure out what country you're from
If your flag is anything to go by, you're American

>step b: find out what the top level soccer competition is
In your case, it's the MLS (short for Major League of Soccer)

>step c: figure out which team in it is closest to you and begin supporting them
Pic-related should help. Glad to be of service, my American friend!

Look at your national team's line up and pick clubs and leagues based on where the players are

or just watch the premier league, some of your best players were there (Donovan, Howard, Dempsey)

MLS is cringeworthy though and it is easier to find Euro soccer on TV
I just want a fun team to watch and root for

MLS is really not so bad if you avoid the parts of the stadium where the official supporter groups sit. And going to the stadium is a way better experience than watching it on TV. The league is getting better every year.
But if you really insist on watching european teams, just pick a big team that wins a lot. No point in pretending not to be a customer if you're just in it to have fun.
>>
>>74960273
MLS is not that bad as an entertainment to watch football live. It's just that tactics are a bit "optimistic".
Pretty decent atmosphere from what I've seen.
>>
>>74960633
once they make the switch to invest in youth rather than buy aging stars the league will get more respect. it makes me cringe seeing some of the old bastards coming here to die.

that being said go orlando.
>>
>>74960652
The youth movement is well underway, with promising young players from central and south america and homegrown players starting to make a real impact on the league.
And as far as aging stars who come here to retire, right now it's just Kaka, Pirlo, David Villa, and Schweini, iirc. So that phase of MLS is definitely drawing to a close.
>>
>>74959822
Doesn't matter. Just make sure whomever you choose, you go doopin mental while you cheer them on.
>>
>>74960652
Some aging stars are not bad, I think Villa still amazes anyone that likes football and that's a good thing to bring new fans to the game.
Others old players are simply abhorrent, yes.
>>
>>74960633
Nah, MLS is terrible. Amateur tournaments here are better, save when some old fart like lampard does something.
>>
>>74959822
>>74960050
To be fair, American "sawker" is shit - he's probably better off watching European football.

>>74960273
Just watch whatever you want lad. Watch EPL if you want. Watch La Liga if you want. Why do you need us to make these decisions for you?

Find when the next big game between two big teams is on, and watch that. Here are some suggestions:

>Saturday
A couple of good derbies for you (a derby is a game between two teams from the same area, who usually have an intense rivalry with each other)

Liverpool - Everton, 11:30 UTC - the Liverpool derby, since they're both from Liverpool
Schalke - Dortmund, 13:30 UTC - the Ruhr Valley derby, since they're both from the Ruhr Valley which is the most densely populated area in Germany, I believe

>Sunday
A couple of good games

Arsenal - Man City, 15:00 UTC - two big Premier League teams battling it out.
Bayer Leverkusen - Wolfsburg, 15:30 UTC - two big German teams
Napoli - Juve, 18:45 UTC - two big Italian teams

The Spanish league is usually pretty shit but if you were interested, there's these:
Saturday: Malaga - Atletico Madrid, 18:45 UTC
Sunday: Valencia - Deportivo, 16:30 UTC

Yeah I would recommend those two derbies on Saturday because derbies are usually quite spicy - even if it's low-scoring (but not saying it will be), there should be plenty of tackles, drama, controversial decisions, etc.

The problem with football, like Americans like to point out, is that sometimes you get boring games where not much happens. If both teams play defensively, then that happens. It really depends on whether one team really needs the points, whether they are fighting to win the league, or maybe fighting to avoid relegation.

But yes, derbies are usually good regardless of this, because of the rivalry. So that's why I would recommend those games first. Arsenal - Man City should also be a high-tension game, as games between the big clubs, fighting for their positions at the top of the table, usually are.

Play pes/fifa

Same as the OP desu. I wanna get into it.

Can someone recommend me a bandwagon team that is good enough to win every year but there are usually better teams?

If you really want a team like that, I'd say go with Juventus or PSG. They both do really well in their domestic leagues (Although PSG probably won't win it this year), but they're big clubs who can buy star players, but haven't reached Madrid or Barcelona levels of talent/status

if you want to watch a slow sport watch Boreball
>>
>>74966926
that's stupid, people who just follow players are stupid, there's no emotion to it.

the best part of sports is the tribalism, pick a team that you get a gut feeling with because of their aesthetics, fan culture, stadium etc. then within one season of following them and rooting for them you become emotionally invested in that team, not because of any individual players.
>>
>>74966945
football is nothing like baseball, it's literally hockey with more players, on a bigger pitch, and instead of becoming unusually technically good at using a stick to control a puck, you become unusually technically good at using your feet to control a ball.

it's not slow unless you're watching shit football. FYI, international football like the world cup is shit football and people who think it's good are in denial.
>>
>>74959822
If I were you Id choose an epl team. You should probably choose 1 out of the best 6 teams.
Chelsea
Liverpool
Tottenham
Arsenal
Manchester City
Manchester United
If you don't know who to support go on you tube and search for highlights of each of these clubs and/or their players. Watch highlights of marquee matches and derbies like Tottenham v Arsenal, Chelsea v Arsenal, City v United, United v Liverpool etc. After watching a few of these you'll find yourself wanting one team to win over another.
Alternatively you should look at the different style of play and tactics of each club and their managers and see which one you prefer. The style of football of each of these clubs is fairly different so you should just find one that you prefer above the rest.
If you'd rather support a European club then just watch the Champions League and choose who you like.
I recommend buying a fifa game as it helps you get to know the players and their strengths.
Once you have chosen a club its important that you do a bit of research and look into their past e.g trophies won, notable former players league history etc.

A sport that can end 0-0 is a boring sport
I respect that you have your opinion, and I can see the appeal in the strategy and skill of the game but you can't tell me it's not boring as fuck
sorry m8
and I wasn't comparing the sports, I'm not a moron, I was saying both sports are slow and boring, one is just inherently more american
>>
>>74960273
Mls better than RPL so that I advice you
>>
>>74967033
if you think 0-0 is a common result, then you probably watched the sport 10 years ago or just watch boring international games.

players are frankly totally different now to back then, no one seems capable of producing good defenders anymore and you will maybe see one 0-0 result a week, mostly between shit sides who are desperate not to be relegated, and nobody watches those games. It's more common to see no 0-0 games than 2 of them.

the low scoring aspect makes it such a thrilling sport, anyway. Teams with shit players can come up with a game plan to beat much better teams. Each goal is incredibly valuable and makes everyone go crazy. That doesn't mean the rest of the game is boring though, nothing makes your heart pound harder than watching an important game where your team is leading by a single goal and the opposing team are constantly trying to break down your defence to score. To a neutral that probably looks slow and boring, but when you actually invest yourself in the result of the match it's thrilling.

Oh and of course it's the 'beautiful sport' where attacking movements can be pretty mindblowing to watch, but that's pretty secondary imo.
>>
>>74963398
