I did play a few sports and was above average at them, but to go pro you need to be in the best leagues and be better than everybody. I played with a couple guys in hockey, lacrosse and baseball who play or played professionally (well, the baseball player is in the minors, dunno how much he's getting paid), and I was mediocre at best compared to the rest of the league. These guys were head and shoulders better than everybody, and they lived and breathed the sport, they were practicing or training basically every free moment of their lives as kids/teenagers. Some played/practiced with 2 or 3 teams at the same time

You can't just become a pro athlete. Anyone who has a "woulda gone pro if not for my <x>" is full of shit, I know lots of guys who were good enough or better than guys who did make it, but still didn't
