Yeah, sometimes is funny, like when they're putting head to head an awful player with a good player having a bad stretch of games. But when they compare some rookie to an already proven player is rage worthy, especially if you know the network is just riding a bandwagon.

General scenario, doesn't even have to be a QB.

>my team just won 7 out of last 11 games
>my WR is only the second player in history to catch two one headed TDs in the 3rd quarter in on a Thursday Night under a full moon and dance makarena
Etc. Literal cherrypickery.
>>
>>74922000
I can't help but think that the second Jerry dies Garrett's ass is fired. I think Stephen Jones knows the team can do better, but he doesn't dare take out his father's chosen coach while he's alive.
>>
>>74922005
Nice try, I'm a Bucs fan.

Your team is forever irrelevant whereas at least the Cowboys have won multiple Super Bowls. All your """fans""" just do is gloat about how you "destroy" the offseason yet every year, EVERY YEAR, they crash and burn and it's hilarious to watch.
>>
>>74922010
the one thing garrett is good at is keeping the locker room together. i think he and mike tomlin are kind of similar in that respect, they're coaches that players want to play for.
>>
>>74921991
since they didn't cut or trade him by march 9th, his 24 million 2017 salary already counts against their cap

now, they'll only save 5 mil after moving him
>>
>>74922010
I unironically think Garrett is a good coach, cowboys organization and Romo's injuries haven't been favorable to him tho.

Jerry is one of the worst owners in the league, bottom 5 for sure
Even if Romo stayed healthy, he's a huge choker. 12-4 regular seasons don't mean shit if you go one and done every playoff appearance
>>
>>74922022
he might just retire, which would also save the $5 million.
>>74922038
this is kind of misleading though. obviously they don't WANT to move him, but i kind of see it as a sign that they're leaving that option open but need a really good offer, kind of like what they did/are doing with jimmy G.

Well yeah, but once he knew Romo wasn't a guarantee he shifted the team to focus on the run game and bulked up the defense, which he did successfully. Maybe I'm overrating him, don't know much about coaching, but I don't think many coaches can really adjust to those kinds of situations. Then again, Jerry did give him the chance to stay there.

it seems pretty elementary to focus on the run game when you have the best line in the league and drafted a back #4 overall tbqh. defense i would credit marinelli with also.

i've seen more of garrett's coaching than most people, and i'd say he's at the level where he's not hurting the team with his decisions most of the time. which for a team with as potent and yet simplistic of an offense as the cowboys do is really all you need

That's really my only doubt about him, the fact that he may not be a crucial part in running the show, but those are the things you never know until he leaves, similar to what happened to the 49ers after Harbaugh left.

For all we know he could be another John Fox waiting for a Gary Kubiak to do things right, but I still believe he's a good coach and would give him credit for developing that Oline, and like I think police said, being a player's coach.

Because the Patriots have been so consistently good for so long the rest of the division has become a revolving door of coaches and quarterbacks. The other teams bring in inferior personnel with the goal of unseating the greatest ever, they get embarrassed by Belichick, ownership thinks they're not the answer then impulsively jumps to the next thing.

Consistency is very important to being successful in football but no teams in the AFCE get a chance to be consistent because the owners expect too much too fast.

Who's the longest tenured head coach in the AFCE right now? Gase and Bowles, 2 years each.

i can't imagine why anyone would sandbag themselves though youre literally just throwing money away at that point because if i remember the difference in pay between a top 10 pick and a 25-32 pick is actually pretty huge let alone falling into the 2nd and 3rd rounds

and who gives a fuck if you play for the fucking bears, browns or 9ers. if you are confident enough in your ability to sand bag yourself and show up after youre on a roster then you should be confident enough to succeed on the browns then bail for the biggest fattest paycheck you can get your hands on after 4 years

this does bring up another issue i have with the nfl, I think that the rookie contracts should be limited to only 3 years, iirc its only 3 years in hockey and hockey players have a wayyyy longer shelf life and far less total competition than football players
its not fair a rookie is drafted at roughly 21-24 years old and can get stuck getting paid relatively shit wages until he is 29 and nearing the end of his prime when he should be getting paid disgusting amounts of money

The owners want it because it can potentially make them more money by limiting player injury. The players union wants anything that makes it easier for the players to make money with the least risk possible.

Neither of them gives a shit what the fans (who are the reason they make money in the first place) think.

well idk this is a weird issue to me
apparently the players union wants to ban this move and im for literally anything that benefits the players
but my question is if the players didnt want to be allowed to jump over the line then why do any of them do it at all? it would make sense that if you dont want to be allowed to do something you dont have to have a rule to just not do it, just dont do it....

>>74927394
but it results in a penalty if he touches anyone
i understand that doesnt mean much to the player that got landed on, but the rule could be modified
like if a player lands on anyone it results in a personal foul and if a player acquires maybe 3 personal fouls in a game he is ejected and possibly forfits a percentage of his game check equivalent to the amount of missed time??
idk i guess itd be easier just to ban the maneuver

>>74927414

The players union would ban contact in the sport if they could. Why does what they want matter? They just want the players to have an easier road to making money, same kind of motivation as the owners have.
>>
>>74927542
and? i understand that the players union would ban contact if they could
but thats not feasible so its out of the question
they players should get the benefit of every doubt because they are putting their bodies on the line

No, its silly to think of it in black and white as owners vs players. I don't root for the players or the owners. I root for what's the best interest in the fans because thats what I am. The players don't care about the interest of the fans, they care about their own best interests. >Oakland received some encouraging news to counter the approval of the team's move to Las Vegas.

>Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie confirmed Monday at the NFL owner’s meetings in Phoenix that quarterback Derek Carr is healing from his broken leg and will be ready for offseason workouts, ESPN reported.

>Carr suffered a broken fibula in his right leg during the team's Week 16 win over the Colts and promptly underwent surgery three days later to repair the injury. He was initially given a recovery timetable of six to eight weeks, so he should be fully healthy when the team begins offseason activities April 17.

Thank you based Carr

trading back would be ideal, since the best fitting prospects (Ross, McCaffrey, etc.) would be reaches at 14. i'm a little unsure as to who would want to trade up there, and for what. my best guesses are someone falls in love with dalvin cook or ryan ramczyk and wants to snag him before the colts, or a premier prospect at a position we don't need (OJ Howard?) falls to 14.

mccaffrey isnt what the eagles need at rb right now unless they take someone like perine or hood in the 3rd-5th rounds
i believe mccaffrey will be a good running back in the nfl regardless of where he goes but his value is diminished by being part of the deepest RB class in my lifetime
he isnt worth the investment at pick 14 and unless a GM really thinks hes incredible isn't worth a first round pick sadly

>>74928374
fournette is an OLine babby, had one of the best in college football
and he is a 2 back set babby as well
no team in their right mind would draft him and try to implement him in a single back/shotgun offense though
i think fournette will be a stud but his career will be cut short by injuries similar to leveon bell, but not quite as versatile

>>74928404
its cool m8
i figured thats what happened, i assumed you were jaded since this place has been just a shitshow recently, which is why i usually try to disappear from /nfl/ around playoff and owl time and try to comeback at free agency and draft time, it keeps me from being pissy and jaded
i did watch some tape on garrett bolles and i like him pretty good id say the eagles should try to scoop him in round 2, especially if they can trade their #14 and maybe like a 4th, move back in the first and try to get an extra 2nd rounder

bolles is a pretty solid prospect, he has good tape and he had a solid combine. only problem with picking is that we have a ridiculous amount of depth on the o-line as it is, so unless kelce/barbre or someone else is traded there almost wouldn't be room for him.

also, in a draft as weak as this one is for o-line, he's probably gonna be overdrafted. wouldn't be surprised if the giants take him in the first round

i wouldnt say the draft is necessarily "weak" at offensive line, there's talent to be found at all the positions, i would however say its very shallow though

Have you ever followed a small market Major League Baseball team? That's the model. They want to improve at the position via youth. They're not going to take anybody over 30. As far as Darnold goes he's got less than one full season under his belt. Let him put up a big year first.
As far as classes go, next year isn't any better unless Browning, Darnold, Rosen, and Falk have big seasons. I don't foresee that happening. Maybe Darnold does, but Rosen is coming off a major injury, Browning lacks size, Falk is an air raid Mike Leach babby, Baker Mayfield is Manziel 2.0, Mason Rudolph is another worthless Big XII QB, Kenny Hill is a manlet, Lamar Jackson is a WR, Thorsen is just a big kid who throws a lot of INTs.

in my armchair gm position their best options are trubisky at #12 or ride it out with kessler, see if he develops and just wait for a qb you really believe in
>>
>>74928929
I'm not sold on Trubisky either. I like that he wants to play for his hometown, but he won't make it that far. The Jets have Josh McCown...a man they literally helicoptered in Week 1 of 2015. The Jets will most likely take Trubisky there unless they can bait the Browns into dealing the 1st this year, next year, and a second (33) to move up and take him.
>>
>>74928905
it's about the safety of the long snapper who has his head straight down, also the player who is leaping over, incase the long snapping pops his head up and that guy is 10 ft in the air

it's the same reason you can't bullrush the long snapper anymore

article did a good job of sensationalizing the issue, and act like this happens often
>>
>>74929092
>The Jets will most likely take Trubisky there
this is ridiculous, why do people keep saying this? the jets have cut nearly all their good offensive players and signed mccown, two of the surest sign that a team is tanking. if their plan was to draft a QB this year, the odds would be high he's going to start what with mccown's injury history. it's kind of silly to assume that they would throw a QB into that grinder without mangold + marshall at least.

everything the jets have done screams QB in 2018 to me. i think everyone knows trubisky would be a reach at 6, and the jets could get a much more impactful player for their defense with that pick. i could see them trading down to accumulate more picks for a rebuild, but never up.
>>
>>74929092
well idk what the jest are going to do
but i think their best option is to just write next year off and take darnold #1 and load up their roster this year because its laughably weak outside the dline and even that is laughable because they have obscene talent and no production

like what the fuck good does that do anyone?
its just a wildly convoluted way to say "drew brees is good when he spreads the ball around efficiently" why do you have to add 15 different stipulations

side note, i also hate it when people intentionally move specific bars to include/exclude certain players
i think it happens most often in the NBA with things like "Durmiquel Janiggersly is one of only 3 players with at least 10 games of at least 7 rebounds, 15 points and 8 assists in the first 3 quarters of a game so far this season"
like fuck that just make the benchmark a real bench mark like 15 pts, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and watch that total number of players who completed the feat jump from 3 to 25

i apologize in advance, its tough finding the best way to format this post and organize all my thoughts

>>74930815
well other than that?
ill use the packers as an example because its the one im thinking about right now and made me pose the question
lets say i am the GM of the packers and i look at my team, its young, pretty talented, but there are holes and i can tell we may be competitive in the playoffs but we arent serious super bowl contenders
so after what we have allotted for draft picks the packers have roughly ~$17 million in cap space
now about rodgers, this will come up later, he is set to make only $12 million in base salary this year and he wants an extension because 2018 is a team option thats set to cost $20 million
if, as the GM, im 99% certain im done making moves in free agency why wouldnt i use $5-$10 million of my leftover cap space and give rodgers a huge amount of money right now, give him an extentension, and free up extra cap space for next year to pick up the 1 or 2 free agents that i might feel are necessary additions for a super bowl run?

and my question stems from whats stopping the packers from using all $17 million to pay rodgers this year making his salary this year $29 million, and give him an extension that would come in very cheap for the following 2 years? something like $10mil for 2018 and another $10mil in 2019 freeing up absurd amount of cap space for future deals
or if i dont want to give it to rodgers why wouldnt i use the cap space i have right now to pay other players who will have more expensive contracts next year and use every sent of the cap space this year to basically have double the cap space for next year?
i understand similar things happen pretty regularly with players getting extensions that have big signing bonuses to clear up space for the team down the road
but why dont teams do this every year and eat up 100% of the available cap number?

Much like Joe Mixon because some BS drama he's being rated low on draft boards despite his talent. An update on current potential cap casualties
Mychal Kendricks will give the eagles $4,800,000 in dead money if released, to only $1,800,000 in cap savings. BUT if they release him after June 1st, the dead money drops to $1,600,000 while cap savings rise to. $5,000,000
Similarly with Jason Kelce ($2,400,000/$3,800,000 pre vs $1,200,000/$5,000,000 post)
Ryan Mathews is $1,000,000 in dead money vs $4,000,000 in cap savings regardless
Cutting Trey Burton would save $2,746,000 (pls no cut)
Cutting Dorial Green-Beckham would save $944,418 with zero cap hit

that only leaves smallwood, smallwood isn't our guy, hes a stopgap sproles (drafted/ryanmathews) and smallwood will be our rb corps

>>
>>74931735

the gilmore move added security for a potential butler exit, plus the patriots had about 60 million in cap space at the start of FA. trading for a guy with a large cap hit now is very different
>>74931843
mathews is being cut regardless of what happens to sproles though. howie won't cut sproles because he's valuable to the current offense, and otherwise wendell smallwood or a draftee would be the starting RB

to save space, kelce or kendricks will be traded, and extra o-linemen will be cut or traded. it's as simple as that.

mills, brooks, gratz, and robinson will probably make the roster. add two high draft picks and it's not a "good" secondary but it's better than last year's.

something i actually wonder about is the possibility of going safety early. if malik hooker falls to #14, which is a big if, i would think the eagles seriously consider drafting him. same thing could happen if jamal adams falls to the #10 range; apparently he models his game after brian dawkins

>the fucking flaming garbage filled shanty town of Oakland California
The Los Angeles Daily News reports "depending on how things turn out" for the Raiders in Oakland this season, San Antonio could be a temporary home in 2018-19.
San Antonio was once bandied about as a possible permanent home for the Raiders, while the team offered to host them part time when they were exploring a move to Los Angeles. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones could put the kibosh on even a temporary arrangement. Instrumental in the Raiders' move to Las Vegas, Jones wants as much of Texas to himself as possible.

any armchair scouts around??
i always have trouble with cornerbacks for a few reasons
1. the tape i can find is just tv tape and not coaches tape so its hard to follow the corner for the duration of the route
2. looking at corners from many different schools its tough to know which schools rely on what kind of schemes most often
3. how much of a specific corners success is theirs, how much is reliant on things like, good pass rush, poor opposing qb play, poor opposing wr play, poor/incredible secondary play from teammates and just simply scheme

with things like dlinemen its easier because the DL is trying to get from point A to B and its just the OL between them and the objective
linebackers a slightly more complex because of scheme coming into play and the play of the people infront of them but if a LB is constantly making plays at or near the LoS its typically a good bet hes a good LB

corners play is dependent on so many different things
lets look at gareon conley
he has an elite team around him
he has an elite corner on the other side of the field in lattimore
and he had the best safety in the NCAA behind him covering his ass (again i wonder how much help he was getting from Hooker, but its hard to tell because on the tape i watch i often can't see the safety alignment)
and he did play in the B1G where teams really did not throw on him a whole lot

so if anyone actually knows what theyre talking about, how do you go about effectively and efficiently evaluating cornerbacks and separating their play from their peers???
>>
>>74933997
>how much of a specific corners success is theirs, how much is reliant on things like, good pass rush, poor opposing qb play, poor opposing wr play, poor/incredible secondary play from teammates and just simply scheme

seems like for this you'd need to watch a lot of tape to get a bigger picture
also figure out how good the WR is he's covering - if the WR is a early round draft choice known to fight for the ball or some guy that wouldn't even be an UDFA that always sits and waits for the ball rather than attacking it in the air
on the big plays the CB makes go back and look at the QB, was he being hurried and forced to throw it up? was it a do or die 3rd down and something needed to be done?
also on plays the QB gets sacked see how long the corner covered before the sack, was it a failed blitz pick up and sack right after the snap or a coverage sack because the defense didn't give him anywhere to throw and he held the ball and waited for 8 seconds hoping someone would get open

of course i'm more armchair than most so what do i know

Players who will definitely not make it out of the top 10 picks in the draft:
>Myles Garrett
>Malik Hooker
>Marshon Lattimore
>Jamal Adams
>Leonard Fournette
>Solomon Thomas

Players who could slip out of the top 10:
>Mitch Trubisky
>Deshaun Watson
>Derek Barnett
>Dalvin Cook
>Reuben Foster
>Jonathan Allen
>OJ Howard

honestly the browns front 7 will look extremely strong after his addition
ogbah, collins, shelton and garrett is pretty scary, and garrett should get a lot of opportunities to make plays with those guys playing next to him
and the browns can load up the back end of their defense because this draft is deep as fuck in the secondary

>>74934886

>>74934893
Unless you think Hue Jackson is Bill Parcells and whoever the fuck the Browns DC is is Bill Belichick, it's not an apt comparison. The rest of that defensive line was also stacked, and their offense was much superior to the Browns once they got good.

Garrett has potential to be a transcendent player, but if the Browns draft him and think they're set, they've got another thing coming.

I don't even get why the league is banning it. Safety? That's horseshit. I mean, maybe if teams tried it enough times, the player leaping over the line might land awkwardly and hurt his ankle or knee or something.

Out of all the rules the league changes and stuff it bans from year to year, this one makes no sense to me.

>>74937832
The best Madden too, friendo. My first one was 64. Foxboro all the way

TDs > completion% > Yards > INT % > YPA > TD% > INTs > W-L > total passer rating > Rushing Yards > sacks > rushing TDs > YPC
FACT.
>>
>People have Mike Williams at #2

Literally just a slower but slightly bigger Alshon Jeffery that can get even less separation
>>
>>74939336
Who you got? People want Williams to be Dez 2.0, that's why he's rated high. I personally thik Davis is closer to Dez 2.0 without all the personality quirks.
>>
>>74939379
Honestly no idea, Ross if he can stay healthy is a much more complete receiver even with his size because he'd be a DJax that can actually run intermediate routes and still catch dragons
>>
>>74939415
Ross isn't nearly as good as Williams technique wise and even guys like Westbrook outclass him. Ross has north south speed but he's not top 3.
>>
>>74933997
> the tape i can find is just tv tape and not coaches tape so its hard to follow the corner for the duration of the route

Pay for that all 22 shit. Trust me its worth it if you care about getting better at analyzing this game. The college stuff is out there if you look hard enough as well.

>looking at corners from many different schools its tough to know which schools rely on what kind of schemes most often

You can usually tell a scheme by watching the tape of a corner and the rest of the defense. How they react to certain offensive players and how they position themselves during plays. Of course this is if you already know enough to identify those things during plays. That comes with time and experience. Anyone can recognize it eventually. You need to read and listen to a lot of analysis by people that know more than you. This is just as important in analyzing football as it is in any discipline in life.

>how much of a specific corners success is theirs, how much is reliant on things like, good pass rush, poor opposing qb play, poor opposing wr play, poor/incredible secondary play from teammates and just simply scheme

This is synonymous with being able to identify the the rest of the defense. It all comes with time and experience.

In the past they haven't even done so hot with keeping just one
>>
>>74940163
he's already in the discussion just not as a front runner.

Aaron Rodgers since the 2nd half of 2010:
95 games, 65.9 completion percentage, 4381 yards 16 game average, 8 y/a, 38 TDs, 7 INts and a 108.1 passer rating

minus his slump from @Denver 2015 to VS cowboys 2016:
80 games, 67.5 completion percentage, 4503 yards 16 game average, 8.4 y/a, 40 TDs, 6.4 INts and a 113.2 passer rating

crazy stuff
>>
>>74940517
>minus his slump
yeah that's not how statistics work

Draft is a crap shoot outside of Garrett going #1.

Nobody knows what's happening until the actual draft choice is made.
>>
>>74940570
>implying the 49ers aren't drafting Zane Gonzalez
>>
>>74940533
just pointing out that all of those other games are closer to his baseline than that 15 game streak, which was incredibly out of character for Rodgers.

I also didn't include games before the 2nd half of 2010 because thats when most people say he became elite.
>>
>>74926688
Yeah he is but he's not overpaid and that's what counts.
>>
>>74940690
compare brady since 2010, and throw out all of 2013, since it was "incredibly out of character". let me know what you get.
>>
erin rodgers is not elite

Saints, Steelers, Chargers, Giants all looking for a developmental QB to draft

Holy fuck one of them is going to get Mahomes and groom that nigga to be Darth Vader.
god dammit when teams go from franchise QB to QB it makes me sick.
>>
>>74940726

92 games, 64.9 completion percentage, 4590 yards 16 game average, 7.8 y/a, 36 TDs, 7 INts and a 103.8 passer rating
>>
>>74940893
so despite brady being 33 years old to 39 years old in that timeframe and rodgers being in his prime, the difference is negligible? glad to hear it
>>
>>74940999
>more tds in fewer attempts, slightly less INTs, 0.6 more yards/attempt, 2.6% more passes completed, a passer rating difference of nearly 10

stats will never be a perfect argument but based purely on them the difference is far from negligible
>>
>>74941078
yes, literally all of those are negligible but the passer rating, especially when you consider their respective ages. are you slow?
>>
>>74940517
but muh rings
>>
>>74940533
it is though
outliars and statistical deviations
>>
>>74941092
they literally are not negligible
the age argument is particularly dumb considering he's played most of his best football in this time span

you're also probably one of those faggots who thinks Brady will play to 45
>>
>>74941131
>outliars
>>
hey guys how many super bowl wins does rogers have?
and brady?

oh what about super bowl mvps??
who?
>>
>>74941273
b-but rodgers entered his prime in the most passer-friendly era in NFL history, look at his stats....
>>
>>74941273
brady only has four bowl MVPs per seven appearances
rodgers has a 100% MVP/bowl appearance ratio
brady confirmed hack rodgers GOAT
