GVA also came to cycling quite late, around 19 or so. I believe he was intending on soccer before that. Cycling is a sport that requires a tremendous amount of aerobic base. You can't build that overnight. Coming to the sport a bit later than someone like Sagan, Kwiato, etc meant that there's always room to imporve his aerobic base.

He's finally getting there.
