I don't think it has that much to do with knowledge. But rather the ability to take the right decisions at the pace of the game. The best defenders are the ones who need the least amount of time (and possibly the least amount of information) to make the right decisions. And form that perspective it doesn't make much sense to compare them with 8 year olds
