How so? He doesn't pass block, he's not a backfield receiver, he still has a fumbling problem, and he's over 30 with about 2500 career carries. Great way to get Stafford killed.

>Washington abruptly dumped veteran defensive lineman Ricky Jean-Francois on Wednesday. The move immediately triggered suspicion that Jean-Francois has paid the price for being candid about his recent criticisms of the team.

>Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Jean-Francois was surprised by the move. Indeed, he started every game for Washington last year, and he performed well.

>Via Mike Jones of the Washington Post, the move had nothing to do with clearing cap space for a potential run at free-agent defensive linemen Jonathan Hankins or Dontari Poe.

>R****** Front Office
>>
>>74728914
Just when I thought Washington ceased to be a dysfunctional shitshow of an organization, Dan Snyder reappears to correct that
>>
>>74728839
Yeah but he can bring those intangibles and work ethic to the team. Veteran leadership is very important especially with the young running backs on the team. Not 25 carries a game but a good amount behind a sturdy offensive line would be good to see him at the end of his career.
>>
>>74728939
>Veteran leadership is very important especially with the young running backs on the team.
but that's bullshit breh. RB is not a position that you need to learn from the older guys, you just plug them in and run them behind your line. Zeke didn't need no veteran leadership, neither did Todd Gurley, nor did David Johnson or Le'Veon Bell.
>>
>>74729043
this, running back is the simplest position on the field. veteran leadership is helpful for WRs or OL, and especially for QBs, but you don't need a veteran to tell you how to be an RB.
>>
>>74729043
No I meant to say that if he were to come he would gain more knowledge just by being in the presence of one of the best RBs in the league (Zachary Zenner). Also Ezekiel Elliott gets to talk to Emmitt Smith, Todd Gurley gets to talk to Eric Dickerson, David Johnson can talk to Chris Johnson, and Le'Veon Bell can talk to Jerome Bettis, so if Adrian got to sit and pick Zenner's brain it could be great for his future.

>>74729043
and if you really want that veteran leadership, Jamaal Charles is a far superior option
1) younger
2) just barely over half as many career carries
3) actually has the skills to play the 3rd down role he'll need to play at this stage of his career
4) guaranteed to be cheaper
5) just as strong of a work ethic
6) doesn't fumble nearly as much
7) a better fit overall for the Lions offense
8) never beat his kid(s)

seems like a no brainer to me

Mr. Charles hasn't seemed to show any interest in the organization though so that's why I haven't brought him up in the discussion.

That would be very intriguing though, but maybe he still has bad memories from Ford Field.
>>
>>74729265
Yeah I feel like people don't realize he's basically only a return man.

Why the fuck do we need someone to stretch the field when we have Amari fucking Cooper.

A RB is not just "give me ball. I run with ball" you have to know which hole to run through, there's things like counter plays, you have to have the footwork down and receive the handoff, plus pass protection and route running.

Pass protects well, and has good top speed for a larger back... just doesn't really run the ball all that well, which is kind of important.

And for an RB that weighs 230, he's pretty mild through contact.

But we liked him.

As long as they have Carr healthy and that offensive line I can't see them being anything worse than a .500 team to be honest. That defense was a historical trash fire for most of the season and they were still competitive in every single game outside of the chiefs.

>>74733359
Yep. Even though AP or Lynch would most likely receive team-friendly contracts, I would rather that money go to resigning Perry Riley and signing Gerald Hodges/Zach Brown. We can find a decent power-back in the mid to late-rounds of the draft. The defense needs to be mediocre at the very least if we want to make a Super Bowl run this year.

Somewhat unrelated, but it would be cool to see a lot of 2-TE sets with Cook and Walford this season. Walford was starting to play well towards the end of last season.
>>
>>74733359
You underestimate the importance of the running game to the Raiders. If the raiders get Lynch for cheap, it will make the offense even harder fof defenses to predict than it was last year. I could live without the Raiders picking up Lynch, but I have a hard time finding reasons not to go for it. He'd bolster the backfield like no one else could.

>>
>Ravens - Brandon Carr 8mil/yr for 4 years
wow lol. He stays healthy, but that's too much for a healthy DB with average at best skills. Then again the FA market was thin on Corners this year wasn't it? Still though, team friendly options might have been the way to go

>Jets - Claiborne 5mil/yr for 1 year
This seems to be a "Prove it" type of deal. 5 mil is about the max I think Claiborne should have gotten and good on the Jets for only doing it 1 year. If he plays At least 15 games consider resigning him

>Buccs - JJ Wilcox 3mil/yr for 2 years
Good deal, that's about what he's worth

>Jags - Barry Church 6.5mil/yr for 4 years
out of all the secondary that left, Church was the only good one, and was one of the main guys I wanted resigned. Jags got him on a very good deal too, solid A signing for them.

Everyone acts as if all these players leaving is some huge blow to the Cowboys, as if the guys leaving were pro-bowlers or something. These same people were calling the Cowboys secondary complete ass before the season. Only pro-bowler on the defense is Sean Lee and he just got his contract restructured to help Cowboys in cap space. Morris Claiborne has been trying to "turn it up" for 3 seasons and has missed 33 out of a 80 games in his time in the league. Brandon Carr, who is a solid player and great in the locker room, isn't a playmaker and has had 1 interception in 3 years. JJ Wilcox was knoown for years to be that safety that could truck hard but always took bad angles and whiffed on tackles more often than not.

Cowboys already have a #1 and a #2 Corner in Scandrick and Brown who played phenomenal last year as a 6th round pick. Complete steal in the draft, and guess what, this Draft class is great for DBs.

tldr Jags signed the only player that really mattered on the Cowboys secondary

I attended and/or watched all of the Giants' preseason games last year and thank God Eli is some weird turtle man who doesn't get injured no matter how bad his O-Line protects him because Nassib legitimately looked like he did not belong in the NFL.

Watching him was just frustrating. I remember one play against the Patriots where he was under siege and he must've lost 15 yards or something because he held onto the ball trying to scramble away instead of just throwing it away.

I know some people are going to say "Are you fucking serious?" to the fact that we signed Geno Smith but I'd be WAY more comfortable with Smith since he's played more recently than Josh Johnson and has at least had some good games.
>>
>>74734150
>Brandon Carr 8mil/yr

Dude It's 6 mil per year jesus we ain't giving a guy like Carr that much money. That said I'm more in favor of the deal after learning he was on AJ Green all game during the Cowboys-Bengals game in 2016 and held him to 1 catch 9 yards. That on top of playing the NFC North last year who we play this year I think he brings a lot of knowledge about our opponents and will obviously stay healthy where our other CBs haven't

also no guaranteed money past year 2 so It's essentially a 2 year. 12 Mil contract if he underperforms

They have 2 play making wideouts on both sides and an emerging wide out that is going to be moved every where else and if Eli can chuck or sling it where it needs to be before he gets hit due to shit line then that can be a potent offense. Need an RB tho

I still think Cowboys have the best offense in that division though.

That's a lot better but anything over 5 mil is over paying IMO. Carr is good at sticking to possession receivers like AJ green but dont put him on anyone that can cut and run routes. If he can go back to playing like he did when we got him from KC then Ravens got the steal.

And 2013 was a year where he had literally no weapons, he lost gronk, Hernandez, welker, etc. He was throwing to late round rookies so obviously his numbers would take a hit.
His numbers weren't even that bad desu. He still hit 4K yards, but in the redzone he couldn't hit gronk which explains his low TD numbers.

Goff has shown nothing in his rookie season to suggest he is the guy, they have no depth literally anywhere, their best DB still hasn't been signed, their second best DB is coming up in trade talks and probably not sticking around, and a 35 year-old Andrew Whitworth is not going to be enough to patch up that awful o-line that Gurley couldn't run behind. I still remember senpai. 09 his MVP season that should have gone to Brees he had quite a few. The 2nd Jags game in particular had like 7 lead changes. The Dolphins game in week 2 or 3 where they dominated the time of possession but Peyton kept scoring TDs everytime they did got the ball

Rewind to 2013 AFCCG, Peyton threw 400 yards and 2 tds and disposes of the Patriots without breaking a sweat.

Brady has tons of missed throws that game and is clearly outplayed.

Brady's resume has increased tremendously the last 3 years.

have the patriots finally become the offseason champs?
>>

Broncos defense wasn't even in the top 20 in scoring that year

Brady looked like he was winding down in 2013 and Peyton just broke the touchdown mark.

What I'm saying is it's retarded to act like it was obvious all along, There was real reason for debate because for a long time Peyton's numbers blew Brady's out of the water. But Brady has aged Better and added two more rings.

It's not like there is a draft that is super deep at DB or anything. It's not like Anthony Brown didn't play last year like he had 3x the upside of Carr and Claiborne put together.

go to discord please
>>
>>74746682
banking on potential upside from inexperienced players is a surefire way to get BTFO. banking on it two years in a row is just degeneracy

Are you actually saying that it is not viable to build parts of your team through the draft? Are you legit saying that 1 playmaker at DB isn't worth more than 2 mediocre ones? Are you honestly this stupid?

nobody said that calm down

if your entire argument is hypothetical, how am i suppose to prove it wrong? you could make the "we will just draft holes" argument for any team.

even IF the cowboys draft studs for the 2nd year in a row, at multiple positions of need, IF, they still lack depth and experience in a scheme that is extremely unforgiving.

>1 playmaker at DB isn't worth more than 2 mediocre ones
what an arbitrary argument lol what are you even doing
>>
>>74747167

300yds, 3tds 1 int, 103 rating is not really choking is it
>>
>>74747214
Just give me your argument as to why signing mediocre players to (lets assume) the deals they signed elsewhere when the Cowboys were already having cap space issues is better than getting actual playmakers through the draft?

Sure you could have the argument that whoever they draft could be a bust, but considering how well the Cowboys have done in the Draft (and through FA) it's unlikely. Claiborne was about the last time cowboys drafted a bust, he's missed 33 out of 80 games with the Cowboys. Carr hasn't had an interception in 3 years. 1 playmaker at CB is all that is needed to replace those two.

The right thing to do as a team moving forward was to let those guys go. Barry Church should have been resigned though, i'll give you that.
>>
>>74747271
How many wins though
Inb4 muh digging out if a hole
Tom Brady does it with no problem
>>
>>74747379
>cap space issues
that's a fair point and one i didn't consider. it seems like a lose-lose though, considering the best alternative to overpaying is to rebuild the unit almost entirely. it's a lot of turnover for a single season. everyone is going to have to step up at once.

>how well the Cowboys have done in the draft (and through FA)
yeah but outside of 2016 the cowboys have really struggled with late-to-mid round picks, despite their success in the first day. that's where the depth issue comes into play. you can only draft so many playmakers in a year.

>The right thing to do as a team moving forward was to let those guys go.
agreed

>>
>>74747775
>it seems like a lose-lose though, considering the best alternative to overpaying is to rebuild the unit almost entirely. it's a lot of turnover for a single season.
Cowboys plugged up holes in FA and did well to at least stop the bleeding. Paea is a Marinelli guy and will take over Crawfords spot. Nolan Carroll who I say is at least comparable to Carr in that he is mediocre but at least stays healthy (also has had more ints than Carr last few years) And with Scandrick now 100% and Anthony Brown looking like a draft steal all the Cowboys need is 1 playmaker at CB and that could potentially be a better secondary than last year
>everyone is going to have to step up at once.
Everyone had to step up last season, it's why a mediocre secondary somehow turned into a top 10

>yeah but outside of 2016 the cowboys have really struggled with late-to-mid round pick
???
>Terrance Williams 3rd rd
>Demarco Murray 3rd rd
>Orlando Scandrick 5th rd
>Tyrone Crawford 3rd rd

Cowboys haven't been great in the mid/late rounds but they certainly haven't struggled
