I'm not debating that at all. I've seen both of those drinking cultures since I moved as far away as was practical for me to go in my early 20s. Like I said in my last post, my childhood involved a Baptist upbringing and an alcoholic parent. They never went to bars or drank around anyone who wasn't a relative or close friend, but I'd say as a conservative estimate they went through four or five 12 packs a week. So not like Intervention-level alcoholism, but heavy enough to adversely affect us growing up.
