The college system utilizes lineman differently than the NFL does. From what I recall, linemen are generally trained to move in 2 directions in college -- forward and backward, whereas they have to move multiple directions in the pros.

sure, but i would have much rather they got him some weapons and spent less on a guy who has maybe 2 seasons left, max. havenstein is developing nicely, the interior is the real issue. maybe we can get em to trade for a guard or kelce.
>>74714929
my issue isn't with whitworth's play, but about the long term. it's a lot of money to spend on an old guy, and their WR corps is one of the worst in the league still. take some pressure off of gurley and goff will do better.

they did keep 3 qbs last season didn't they?

mcgloin is gone, and cook looked like shit so they probably want a better backup.
>>
>>74715067
but if they had thrown the money whitworth got at terrelle pryor or someone, they would have that player for more than the first couple years of goff's career. i don't hate the signing, it was smart for the rams to try and protect a guy who got sacked a ton last year, although a lot of that was due to his shitty pocket presence. i'm just not sure a 35 year old is the right direction for a franchise building from the ground up.
>>74715174
in what sense? there have been better RBs since he played
>>
>>74715104
Whitworth wasn't great last season, I actually watched their games.

He certainly fell off from 2015, and if he's 35yo it's pointless paying him big money.

Camp arm
>>
>>74715191
Someone that does it all as well as he did. He wasn't the best in any one real style, but he was top 2-3 in just about every category during his prime. He was fast, he was slippery, he could run people over, he could block, and he could run routes and make catches better than almost everyone
>>
When will we see the next Jameis/Luck/Mariota/Cam/etc tier QB draft prospect?

How many years?
>>
>>74715187
Cook looked like shit because his first 2 games were away against the 2 best defenses in the league. Plus he was 3rd string so he never got reps in practice. Cook will be fine, Manuel is just a camp arm, they won't carry 3 qbs again

making stupidly contrarian guesses about the upcoming season is neat i guess, but the rams are a garbage team right now on offense and have holes on defense, and no matter how well aaron donald and whitworth play it won't change that.

No they have to give #11 if they sign him to an offer sheet and the Pats don't match

If they work out something with Bill and Butler that he signs his tender and they trade something lower than a deal will get done. Saints will not trade #11 for Butler and if the Patriots ask I very much doubt they will do it considering they could get Humphries/Conley at 11 and somebody like Desmond King at 32 if they were that desperate for CBs

Where they stand now they have Breaux and either Ken Crawley or PJ Williams slated to start opposite. adding Butler would be a huge boost but they know he's not worth a pick that high considering they will also have to give him a $10 Mil + per year contract
>>
>>74716035
Nobody is saying that but the person asked what do they have to do to win the offseason aka make their team improved from last year

Carr, Wilcox and Claiborne didn't play that well but they were still veterans who knew that scheme well. Church on the other hand had a great season and losing Leary + Free on the O line does make them worse

Wait that's what I said.
>>
>>74716489
Because it's a dangerous precedent to set. Butler still has a year left at a very good price for the Patriots.

They reportedly offered him 7 mill a year when he still had two years left, and he turned it down. Also the cap isn't a one-year thing to think about....two years down the line they'd be dealing with the big years of contracts for Butler, Gilmore, Hightower + whoever.

And they need to be flexible for the Jimmy G situation too. And maybe they just don't believe Butler is worth the money he wants.
>>

Yeah classes like this cause a big problem in the fact many of them would stay back, but they're projected in the first round despite not being first round talent.

Then they all go in, don;t make the QB class any better and make the next years class weaker.

There's been a bit of good QB's in the last years though that will show up in the "drought".

>>
>>74716828
Truth. I think the hype is what causes many young QBs who haven't even fully developed at the college level to make the jump regardless of where they are with their skill set. They see the opportunity for the limelight and the money, so they prematurely enter the draft. Then they get in over their head or can't grasp the concepts of the pro style
Offense and fall into obscurity except to show up on "Top NFL QB Busts" lists. It's more of a recent phenomenon. Even going back 10 years ago, you still had a good number of QBs who stayed for at least 4 years. Now it's almost exclusively 3 and out, and the quality of QBs coming out has declined, directly affecting teams to the point of having such a large gap in QB talent in the NFL. The older Elite pocket passers are now sticking around longer because that gap has caused the salary for even a mediocre pocket passer to skyrocket (Brady, Roethlisberger) along with the expectations (i.e. Cousins, Garoppolo, Glennon...fucking Glennon??? Seriously???)

The NFL doesn't help with this shit either.

Not only do they pick these guys, they'll start them as rookies in a lot of cases. Then call them busts and repeat. Some could pull it off before but it was rare.

The NFL seems to not develop them either. Steve Young and Jim Kelly would probably have been much worse had they never played in USFL and developed. Now a days they just want to throw them in and if they dont have a winning record their second season when they're like 23/24 they're decided to be shit.

If he was next to McCourty and two good safeties if he blew any coverages the thought being they could pick them up. He was slipping as a corner this last year but if he converted to safety he still has potential to play a high level as long as he is next to a solid CB.

Let's not forget just 3 years ago when Revis was on the Pats we were still arguing if he was the best CB in the league. I think he could still play at an elite like level if he had the motivation to. Let's not forget he was playing on the Jets the last two years and had gotten paid big he had no real reason to try. If the Pats give him an incentive based contract it could work well in their favor. He said he is willing to take league minimum too.

So been thinking about this for a bit and I can see it playing out in two ways.

1. Either Brady has told BB and Kraft that he's done after this season and it's not gone public cause he doesn't want every game to be a "going away" party.

or

2. BB shows Brady the door after this season, due to Brady being old and having a young QB in Jimmy G.

I mean if Montana can get showed the door any QB can get showed the door. BB doesn't have any loyalty to Brady, just refer back to when Deflategate first broke for evidence. BB likes to take things one game at a time sure. But with Brady being entering his 40s he'll be in that area of "one hit away" from retirement. I really honestly think that BB isn't necessarily stacking the team for Brady per se, but he's actually stacking it for JimmyG next season. So it's going to be interesting on how things shape out.

Brady still has that chip on his shoulder from being taken second-to-last in the Draft AND having the higher-ups in the league try to fuck him over.

I don't think he'll ever stop until he can't. Even if he got another ring he'd probably fight for another because he wants to prove everyone wrong that much.

>The highlight of his NFL Scouting Combine week was meeting Brian Dawkins, LSU safety Jamal Adams said Sunday. Dawkins has the title "football operations executive" with the Eagles, and he is part of the team's combine scouting group, as he was at the Senior Bowl.

>Adams, considered likely to be taken in the top 10 or so in the draft's first round, was answering a question about getting help from former teammates, and after mentioning Eagles corner and former Tiger Jalen Mills, he said all such NFL advice is useful. "For instance, (Saturday) I talked to a legend, Brian Dawkins . . . I've admired everything about him, and that was the highlight of my week. Just knowing that he already knew about me, saying how passionate I was and how I play the game the right way. That was huge, to hear that from a legend like him," Adams said.

>"I saw him talking to a player. I was leaving, and he was sitting by himself. Something just spoke, like, that's who I admire, my game - he's so passionate about the game, and I had to go seek wisdom, see what he sees. The fact that I went up to him and he already knew who I was, he's already seen some film on me and watched some games, I was honored, I was blown away."

To be fair, Henson was the number 1 recruit in the nation at the time. Henson was supposed to be some sort of super athlete with a cannon for an arm, speed, accuracy, etc.

Ziggy Ansah

He's really good, dont get me wrong. But he's a physical babby. He relies 100% on his speed, power and athleticism. He dropped from 14.5 sacks to 2 because of an injury that affected his athleticism. He's gotta learn to get better at finesse or he will be a very average player when he gets older and isnt as fast/strong.

>muuuh offense
Ever since the Steelers became an offensive powerhouse they have won exactly jack shit.

>>74724655
>but the overall numbers are as good as ever.
2014 was his individual peak. Compared to that season he threw for fewer yards at a lower completion%, fewer TDs, more INTs (on fewer attempts), fewer yards per attemps and with a lower passer rating.

His numbers are down across the board compared to his peak and he's been getting injured more and more since then. He's still a very good QB, just on a decline and no longer a truly elite one
>>
>>74724712
They've haven't been an offensive powerhouse though. They've underachieved every year.

>>74724737
>2nd WR goes dude weed

Besides Brown, he was left throwing to literally practice squad tier WR's this year like Sammie Coates, Eli Rogers, and Cobi Hamilton. I haven't noticed any decline. Last season might have been his second best of his career all things considered.
>>
>>74724821
Actually Sammie Coates might be good, but he was trying (and failing) to catch passes with taped up broken fingers on both hands last year. No idea how you keep playing someone in that condition when their only job is to use their hands to catch a ball.

TJ Carrie only played S because we needed him too. He's a slot corner through and through and should play there this year. He was a 7th round pick that's tremendous value.

Ellis is average but an average starter in the 4th is still good value.

Murray in the sixth was also great value.

Washington looked great in his limited snaps last season once again a great value late round pick.

Anytime you get a starter in the 4th-7th that's a great pick. This isn't Madden. And that's not even counting all the UDFA he's hit on

Yes, I can honestly tell you that. Even in the 2nd half of the season he wasn't consistently good and had games when he was a non factor. He only really turned it up in the last few games of the season and in the play offs, which was the best short stretch of his career, but it doesn't make it the best season overall.
>>
>>74728302
had he not missed almost 8 games he would of likely set career highs in yards and receptions. iirc he played 2 drives a piece VS Detroit and Seattle. games where the offense was red hot and would have probably given him nice stats
discounting injuries and factoring in his postseason success, it's probably the most effective he's ever been
then there is the eye test where he was by far more consistent than he has ever been
