Ppv will die soon for boxing. They cannot compete with the ufc. Even shit cards sell more than kov vs ward. Time to move to another business model.

95k is pretty optimistic, Tbh
>>
>>74648910

That's what PBC is doing, Thurman vs Garcia peaked at 5.1 million viewers on CBS. PPV is still the best platform for mega fights though, it was only 2 years ago Mayweather vs Pacquiao did nearly 5 million buys and in the UK PPV is growing stronger, Haye vs Bellew just did great numbers which shows it comes down to the quality of the fights and how well they appeal to the mainstream.

>>
>>74649687
I think it's typically 45% for the cable provider and then another 10% for the distribution network. HBO and Showtime would love nothing more than to get away from PPV because there's not much money in it for them, but promoters force them to because they can put on their own shows like Top Rank has done a few times already.

The premium channels are also kept afloat to bloat gigantic package deals you have to purchase if you want cable. TV is a shady business.

Question for the brits...

How much do the fighters get paid for the regular matchroom and Warren fight nights?

I mean they seem to have deep cards, with like 8-10 fights and often a world title fight with a few minor titles. They attract maybe like 10k attendance.

Im curious what the purses for these fight nights are.

Super welterweight and Cruiserweight were the 2 divisions they're looking at but nothing decided. Super six took 2 years and was a mess with group stages and pull outs, the structure is more like matchroom's prizefighter quarter final to final 3 fights but spread out over 7 months rather than one night.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prizefighter_series

They said they want champions involved and it will be held in Las Vegas, New York and Europe. It has potential, I think it all depends on who they can persuade to sign up for it.

No, golovkin is unknown and canelo is a name most people know. canelo will make absurd amounts of money fighting cans because he's a star. Golovkin is the fucking b-side, he should take less money, most likely win, then have leverage for a rematch.
>>
>>74655771

Golovkin was unknown when he fought Proszka like 4 years ago. He's pretty well known now. Canelo has more hype behind him but that doesn't mean GGG should take a flat fee in a huge money fight like this. Canelo's just scared, Idgaf what he and his fag promoter say. They won't be able to milk fans for much longer. Even Mexicans are sick of his shit. And his drawing power is totally inflated. When he's not fighting Cotto or Floyd, his numbers are not much better than Golovkins.

So let's say the average ticket price is $150 (not likely, since a bulk of the tickets would be towards the low end), the total gate is $1M. We're not even factoring in the expenses or his opponent's purse or the undercard's purses. He still has a long way to go before demanding $1M per fight.

There aren't many scenarios where boxing comes out of it looking good. I only see Mayweather stopping him if McGregor gasses in the late rounds otherwise he'll be reactive and counter punch. If Mayweather spends 12 rounds outboxing him then UFC fanboys just say "12 rounds in his own sport and he never hurt him". If the memes strike and Mayweather dislocates his shoulder or something we'll never hear the end of it. The only satisfactory ending that the mainstream will accept is Mayweather knocking him out.

That's kind of an interesting answer. I think most people would say he never retired to begin with, pretty much everybody expected him to fight again.
>>
What site would be the best to collect my free money on the Mayweather fight?
>>
>>74661434
When I say retired, I mean that he was done being Floyd the fighter. Realistically, there was nothing more he could achieve after Pac (except maybe a title at MW but I think that's out of the question now) to solidify his ATG status and every other fight beyond that would just be aiming for 50 and would ultimately be irrelevant to the division. That could change if he decides to fight someone like Bradley, but he's a TopRank fighter and I don't think he'd take a fight like Thurman at this stage of his career.
>>
>>74661547

He's not taking a real fight again, he's 40 years old. He could of beat Danny Garcia last year for the WBC title but he's not interested in risk he just wants money and 50-0. He'll probably fight on the back foot against a non boxer.
>>
>>74661547
Ah. Even the Pacquiao fight wasn't really what it could have been 5 or 6 years earlier. He's been on cruise control for a long time. Can't blame him for raking it in fighting thee types of guys, but it's a waste of his talent.

I wonder if we'll see Mayweather come to a strange end like Hopkins did not too long ago. He seems like the kind of fighter to stay in the game far too long.

Yeah, it was more or less putting the final tick in the box more than anything else. If it hadn't happened, people would always complain about "what if" but I suppose now they'll complain about "should have"

>I wonder if we'll see Mayweather come to a strange end like Hopkins did not too long ago. He seems like the kind of fighter to stay in the game far too long.
I don't think so; context is everything. Floyd is arguably the greatest to ever do it. Couple that with his work ethic and massive ego, there's no way he'd allow himself to falter now. It's not going to be a 'Golovkin' or a 'Thurman' as his 50, it'll be a 'McGregor' or a 'MayPac2: Repeat or Revenge???'

Totally agree with this, ending his career at 50-0 and screaming about how he's greater than Marciano is exactly the kind of fake legacy-builder that he likes. But eventually money, boredom, or who the hell even knows what pulls everybody back into fighting, the ring has its own special kind of gravity. Maybe it's just meme magic.

>he Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) is an organization that will offer and promote effective anti-doping practices and programs in boxing and mixed martial arts. Boxing and mixed martial arts are state regulated. Currently, few athletic commissions perform drug testing for performance enhancing substances. When conducted, testing is not comprehensive, rarely unannounced and not a deterrent. Sports regulators do not have the man-power, time and funds to thoroughly carry out the task. VADA will be an opportunity for athletes to demonstrate their commitment to clean sport.

>Professional athletes will volunteer to be subject to unannounced testing at any time during the eight weeks prior to a scheduled fight. As in the Olympic program, an agreement to participate will require fighters to officially inform us of their daily whereabouts, so that they can be tested per the program. Athletes will agree that all results are immediately released to the appropriate adjudicating commission overseeing their upcoming contest

Kind of, yeah. If he was getting off the canvas to win against he'd probably be doing great PPV numbers. He could still be a star if he got a fight against someone with name recognition but that hasn't happened yet for a variety of reasons.

It's so strange - he seems likeable enough, he hasn't had a fight go the distance in years, he looks like an average white guy, and yet he doesn't seem to be marketable at all. I guess one-sided beatdowns against fighters nobody's heard of aren't quite inspiring enough to make people pay attention.

He's also not from America or the UK, he isn't an underdog and he isn't someone that is divisive enough to get the antifan base too.

GGG benefits nothing from having Choc on the card. This is just k2 trying to sign someone they thought would get them ratings cuz' of the artificial p4p hype and so far its got them nothing. People that tune in to watch GGG don't care about him and his audience is comprised of "hardcore" nerds that watch on choppy streams which means they'll watch anything, especially a GGG card, no matter who the undercard is.

K2 is learning the hard way that promoting manlets as marquee "stars" is futile.

>>
>>74674268

The second name in Russian culture is not given, but patronymic. It's created from father's first name. Therefore GGG's father was also named Gennady Golovkin. Another example - Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. And also a little less known trivia fact, in Russia if someone bears the same name of his father you have a proof that he's not a Jew. That's because Ashkenazim Jews cannot (under the Law, but also it's embedded in culture) can't name their offspring with the same name as the father's.

He's got the right to ask for as much as he can just as HBO has the right to say no.

But it's puzzling that the network got behind him in the first place because none of the networks outside of Asia are ever going to be showing fights in smaller weight classes on a regular basis. No one outside of the kind of nutjobs that post about boxing on an anonymous Mongolian underwater basket weaving imageboard are going to give a shit about a guy if they've never heard of any of his opponents, Naoya Inoue might as well be Eric Crumble.

Has boxing evolved like football and MMA? so what i mean by that is in the 1970's football players would smoke and drink and would struggle in todays game and in 1990's UFC fighters would struggle in UFC now. So does that work in boxing would 1950 1960's 1970's boxers lose to the current generation.
>>
>>74680608
the 1980's were the golden generation
>>
>>74680608
No, it's regressed. Smaller talent pool, worse conditioning, less heart, inside fighting is a lost art, etc.

Due to the nature of the sport there's relatively less difference between generations but in terms of sports science and training techniques of course it has progressed. Don't let fedora Boxing Historians tell you any different.
>>
>>74681154

The heavyweight division isn't 220 lbs. If athleticism produces results over technique that's progress, all that matters is winning. We've had loads of good boxers in the 21st century as well though.

>The heavyweight division isn't 220 lbs

The divisions are arbitrarily demarcated

It's unfair to compare a 220 lbs fighter to a 250 lbs fighter. Saying Klitscho would beat Ali is like saying Golovkin would beat Jose Napoles, it's not a useful comparison

And if modern boxers are so athletic let's see them complete 15 rounds at a good pace... more than twice a year at that

They don't do second weigh-ins for MMA but supposedly McGregor is over 170 on fight night, he's bound to have a huge reach advantage. If he gets boxed up early he'll default to John Ruiz mode.

There's only two reasons s Connor gave up on boxing. Either he's feather-fisted or he has a porcelain chin. He would have gotten found out at the national level nevermind the world level.
>>
Random fantasy matchups, who would win and why, all boxers in prime.

Marciano vs Tua
Ali vs Valuev
Chisora vs King Levinsky
Pulev vs Gallota

He bit that one guy, too. Dude just imploded when things stopped going his way.

Tua, 2big2strong for Marciano
Ali, Valuev lost to Haye, pretty sure Ali could do it better
Probably Chisora, Levinsky has good wins but lost convincingly to Louis
Pulev, poor mans Klit wins all day long

Do you expect anything else from human garbage?

It was going to be online anyways

Actually that's wrong. He was winning pretty clearly but decided to throw low blows against Bowe anyway.

This logic is so dumb. Anyone who gloats about the 49-0 record then turns around and says this is retarded. Quality matters then who cares about him being undefeated? There are many fighters with better quality wins than Mayweather. Also dissing Lopez's resume is pretty casual thing to do.

Lopez was amazing to watch in his prime.

People who hate baseball usually do so for 2 reasons:
1. They throw like a faggot
2. They were afraid of getting hit by the pitcher

was never dissing m8. he has a great record and finished undefeated with more wins but for some reason 49-0 is the special number

Yeah I was big pushover before baseball. You don't fear much after experiencing a fastball getting whipped a few inches from your head.

It's kind of crazy when you think about it.

I was much better at baseball in high school than I am at boxing but baseball became too fucking scary so I only box now. Fuck having some 6'6 monster throw a missile at me from what seems to be two feet away

No lads, he's just passing his prime and Srisaket has power to hurt anyone. He was completely fucked over in the Cuadras fight in which he genuinely hurt the guy. Even if he doesn't win I guarantee you it'll be closer than people seem to be expecting and the best fight of the card.
