howard would be BPA at 14, but i honestly hope we don't take him. just seems like overkill when we have two established starters and a 3rd who can receive.

alshon is probably the 2nd or 3rd best contested catch WR in the league. i think wentz is going to throw deep more with more success this year thanks to him and torrey smith. he also gives the eagles a true redzone threat, which was a huge issue last year.

>Hightower still not signed anywhere

REEEEEEEEEEEEEE
>>
>>74645281
He's a guy everyone says will be good next year, but he has never actually had sustained success. He's a coach killer. The iggles will keep him 2 or 3 more seasons then let him walk to the pats or trade him for nothing.
>>
>>74645281
i love jmatt, but he does his best work out of the slot. he is the only receiver we have who has proven he can score TDs in the past, but his injuries and the overall offensive inconsistency last year didn't help. adding someone to take attention away from him in the redzone will likely help.

this year, with a true #1 guy opposite him and torrey smith taking the top off defenses, i think he'll be able to light it up out of the slot. if ertz can produce the passing offense should be worlds better than 2016. get a running back in the draft, and we're putting out a pretty good unit.
>>
>>74645318

>Jets, Patriots favourites to land Hightower

Career suicide or playoffs, tough call.
>>
>>74645320
he went for nearly 2k yards and 16 TDs his first two years, how is that not sustained success? do you have any idea what you're talking about?
>>
>>74645346
Hightower has TWO rings already. Unless he wants to pull a Robert Horry and just rack up jewelry, it's time for a payday. The Jets would probably break the bank to sign him, too, and then gloat about it in the Daily News, just like they did with Revis.
>>
>>74645320

im assuming ertz
>>74645330

>>
>>74645318
That's good, you retard. The longer he spends unsigned means no one is throwing a dump truck full of money at him. He'll come back to NE.
>>
Seahawks matched Detroit's offer. Lang's wife said she wanted to go home so he chose Detroit.

Seattle going to have stick with the O-line they got. Time to bolster up that defense with money/draft picks and hope Wilson can survive.
>>
>>74645373
Do the Jets even have the money to give him a huge payday? I thought their cap situation was shit.
>>
>>74645346
career suicide? at this point after rings, its all about life changing $$$
>>
>>74645392
yes and yes. DGB plays like he's 5'10", fucking infuriating. i miss huff too, he had the big-play ability that none of our other guys did. i guess smith is a cheap replacement there.

i do hope we can snag a PR/KR in the draft, that's always been a strength of our team. my next mock draft is gonna have a hot take in the 1st who's a threat to score as a return man.

You can't take it with you when you go, but your legacy will remain. He's already made huge plays that changed two Super Bowls. What if he does it a third time? A fourth?

A million dollars is still a million dollars. It's not like NFL linebackers are known for their long careers or bright opportunities after retirement. A million a year over the length of a 5 year contract can mean an extra 5 years of living in luxury before going broke after you retire.
>>
>>74645458
He's never going to have a chance for this kind of money again in his life.

>"I'd hope there would be guys on their team that would address that, but it is what it is," Whitworth told The Associated Press. "You've got guys that want to make names for themselves and can't, and then they get frustrated. It's their opportunity to do something they feel and be tough, but that ain't tough. Face-to-face is tough.

"Most of those guys, they are what they are -- they're cowards. And if they really wanted to have an issue with you, they'd address you. But they obviously don't."

one, carr has only had like 1 and a half good seasons. two, he was on maybe the 3rd best offense in the league last year, and definitely a top 5 unit, and his line was top 3 in the league for sure. meanwhile stafford had a shitty receiving corps, little to no running game, a pretty crappy offensive line outside of decker, and one of the worst secondaries in the league, not to mention that the lions only good pass rusher was injured most of the season.

but yeah, since stafford broke his thumb he's fucking shit for not being able to do as much with marvin jones and ameer abdullah. i'm glad carr doesn't get injured like tha —hey, wait a second...

>>
>>74650654
like carr deserves any fucking credit for how well reggie mckenzie has been drafting lmao. on offense the raiders are fucking stacked. amari cooper, michael crabtree, the latavius murray/jalen richard 1-2 punch, etc. even khalil mack and the raiders pass rush, plus their free agent signings in 2016, make their defense much better than what the lions were throwing out there.

that line only got carr sacked 16 times all year, and he still managed to get injured TWICE. meanwhile stafford took 37 sacks and still actually managed to start in his team's playoff game.

i like carr, he's a good QB. maybe even top 10 depending how you rate some other guys. but to say that he's better than stafford based off of stats when he was the most coddled QB in the league on offense and stafford literally dragged his team to the playoffs is pants-on-head retarded

yeah because you're a ravens fan and you don't know what a good receiving corps is lol. whatever you may think of the lions wideouts, the raiders had a much better group, and a much better line, and a much better running game. the raiders are so much more complete than the lions top to bottom, and yet stafford was having a comparable season to carr until he broke his thumb, and still dragged his team to the playoffs. what does that tell you about the two of them?
>>74650946
god you really don't know anything kek. detroit's leading rusher on the season was fucking theo riddick with 347 yards. oakland had two different backs with more rushing yards, and murray punched in 12 TDs. just because a player isn't literally the best in the league doesn't mean they can't be better than what's on another team.
>>

I unironically believe Zach "Great White Hope" Zenner will be a servicable RB #2 for the Lions. He was doing pretty ok for the Lions and now that this line has got a lot better he can make some plays. Still won't say he's great.
>>
>>74650983
I'm not arguing Stafford had a better team around him than Carr at all. I'm just saying Stafford has shown every year to be the exact same QB. He's streaky and incapable of beating great teams

Carr has shown everything the last two years. He is a Superbowl calibre QB. Stafford will make a couple more Pro Bowls before retiring and fading into irrelevance like most middling NFL QBs
>>
>>74651106
Idk if he will get many reps next season. I am pretty convinced the Lions will be getting a RB within the first three rounds. Between Abdullah, Zenner and a new draft pick I don't see many reps going Zenner's way besides short yardage situations. Hopefully the Lions realize that Theo Riddick should not be taking handoffs under any circumstances too.

Stafford has been a million times better under JBC though. Last year he improved so much, especially when it came to moving around in the pocket and escaping pressure. He distributed the ball a lot better too. I think he's shown a lot of growth the past two years but I'm still not gonna call him top 5. I'm hoping with this improved Oline and running game that we can see an even better Stafford next year. He's never had a running game before so it would be interesting.
>>
>>74651013
not remotely relevant to anything, but hey, you tried.
>>74651135
> Stafford has shown every year to be the exact same QB
completely fucking false lmao. he's changed so much since he came into the league; he used to average like 59-62% completion but the last two years he hasn't dipped below 65%. the first 4 years of his career he threw more than 15 picks every full year, yet he hasn't thrown more than 12 since 2013. he lost a historically great wideout this offseason and still had a very solid year with a playoff berth.

as for carr, i'm not even saying he's bad lol. i'm saying it's silly to put him over stafford with a season and a half of good play. remember when andy dalton was playing like an MVP candidate in 2015 until he got injured?

If the Lions get Mixon that'd be great. He's a better version of McCafrey, but because of the assault stuff he's not getting coverage.

I hope Zach doesn't get buried because he played his heart out those games I seen him come in. After Zenner had a decent game, Caldwell even tried another back in front of him, dunno why, thinking maybe the run blocking had improved (?), but the guy was still getting stuffed and then when he brought Zenner in he went for a few decent runs.

I'm not saying he's going to be great, but I'd keep him on the roster.

He's played great the last two years and only missed one game. I'd take that two year stretch over any in Staffords career because again he's streaky as fuck. I don't know how you can defend him after the Lions-Cowboys playoff game anyway. Fumbled the ball on the last series down 4 points but had it called back due to a penalty. Fumbled again on the next play ending the Lions season. 3 turnovers in the biggest game of your career is the epitome of Matt Staffords career to date

>CLE:HOU moved on from Osweiler after outburst

>Osweiler's tiff with O'Brien had been mentioned in passing, but apparently it was the deciding factor in Houston's decision to find a new quarterback. Tom Savage started against the Titans in Week 17 but was ruled out in the second quarter after suffering a concussion. Osweiler lashed out at O'Brien after he was told that he'd be finishing the game, ripping O'Brien for using him only because he had to. As the conflict escalated, Osweiler accused O'Brien of holding him hostage after O'Brien blocked him from walking away. Eventually the two had to be separated. It's common for stories to leak out like this after a messy divorce, but clearly Osweiler was never right for Houston.
>>
>>74651319
Yeah that was strange. I remember Zenner tearing the Cowboys a new asshole and out of nowhere Caldwell put Dwayne "2 YPC" Washington in for the whole second half.

They need a big guy RB to pair with Ameer desu but Mixon is just such a good RB that it would be tough to pass him up

Also he can also save Stafford too unlike some RBs in pass protection
>>

>remember when andy dalton was playing like an MVP

Dalton performed good in '16, kept the team winning unlike his early career and his retarded HC should've been fired.

Staffords higher completion % is due to the fact Jim Bob Cooter runs a no middle dink dunk offense ( what Peyton used to have, and Brady ).
>>

I dont get this meme

the jets generally have good defenses most years, last year being an exception, it's their offense that usually sucks ass.

Revis was 30 and launched his career with the jets in the first place if that's your main argument.

this is 2015 andy dalton and 2016 derek carr

can you guess which QB is which?
>>
>>74651489
Exactly 4 YPC is about league average if not slightly under. Always has been

He was saying that Carr had Crabtree and Murray like they were some high level talent he was playing with and not league average players made better by their QB/coaches

Everyone played well in 2015

Bortles, Fitz, Cousins, Stafford, Carr and Palmer all had 30+ TD seasons. It was a garbage year for NFL defence just like 2011
>>
>>74651538
>the jets generally have good defenses most years

The AFCE always has great defenses to pop Brady but it never works. Dolphins went all in for Tannehill & Gase and made the playoffs, really makes one think.

>>74651569
Bottom is Dalton obviously
>fewer pass attempts in Hue Jackson offense

You can make an argument they're oline babbies but Carrs receivers outside Cooper are average or bums.
>>
>>74651580
hahaha you're such a fucking liar. i literally said multiple times that i was comparing crabtree and murray to what stafford had. murray had TWICE the yards of detroit's leading rusher, and the raiders also had jalen richard's 5.9 yards per carry (and more yards than detroit's leading rusher).

also, detroit's leading rusher averaged less than 4 ypc , and ALSO michael crabtree had a 1k season with 9 TDs with colin fucking kaepernick, he's clearly better than any receiver on the lions but tate, who has never even had 9 TDs. how disingenuous can you fucking get?
>>
>>74651589
I'm scared about our front 7 situation. DT and LB is scary. I think our secondary is actually pretty good. The whole "highest completion % since merger" thing was more of a testament to how bad our linebackers were. Every team dink and dunked on us through the whole game.
>>
>>74651580
Murrays not really a good RB either, he goes down first contact behind an elite offensive line.. good as a pass catcher.
>>
>>74651643
well it did work in 2009-2010 but it took really fucking good defenses to do it, it's not like they're dumb for investing in their defense, they just have been stuck in qb hell since at least pennington and arguably much longer
>>
>>74651648
Marvin Jones was a good receiver lastyear
>>
>>74651666
Reuben Foster in the first desu. I know it's a reach, but hopefully that medical thing put him off other teams.
>>
Why aren't the Raiders signing defensive free agents? Also what should they do at RB? Promote their young backs? Resign Murray? Go after AP?
>>
>>74651643
he also played 3 fewer games lol, that's mainly why. and michael crabtree is definitely above average, don't give me that shit. you seriously don't know what an "average" receiver is if you think he's it.

and even if he was "average", which he isn't, he would still be better than everyone on the lions but tate, and he's the #2 on the raiders. the offensive talent carr has all-around compared with what stafford had last year isn't even a contest.
>>74651693
for like 4 games lol. he didn't crack 100 yards receiving after week 3, and didn't catch a single touchdown after week 6.
>>
>>74651693
Through the first five weeks when he was on the left side. Then him and Tate switched and Tate exploded. Lions wernt that great in pass protection so it was easier to throw to the left side. Right side routes take longer to develop.

I feel sorry for Brock. At least as sorry as I can feel for a millionaire. He really wanted to be a Peyton Manning/Tom Brady type franchise QB. He studied film, practiced his ass off, showed up early, took all the notes he could. The talent just wasn't there.

yeah...? they clearly are stacked. they have the best line in the AFC and two above-average receivers, not to mention a balanced running game and an aggressive offensive-minded coach (who is much better than caldlel). you do know that an offense can be stacked without every single player being julio jones or leveon bell, right?

Because Tate played as the #1 after he was injured dingus

>he played 3 fewer games
That wasn't the main reason, Dalton handed off to Hill and Bernard with the lead in games.

I agree Stafford did a lot with less but thats a big thanks to Cooters offense taking the stress off his arm. iirc both Stafford and Carr injured their finger late in the season and struggled.
>>
>>74651882
>get targeted 37 times in your last 5 games
>score 0 TDs
that's never good.

and dalton was still averaging 32 pass attempts a game in 2015, it's not like he wasn't throwing the ball.

i'm not even degrading carr ffs, i said i think he's a borderline or even solidly top 10 QB. i just don't rate him above stafford because his body of work is smaller and the help he receives is greater, that's all. if people here really don't think the oakland offense is one of the best in the league even without carr i'm not sure if they've been watching that team.

Dolphins arguably got hot before Tannehill died. But if a 3rd string QB can't do anything why bother mentioning the offense being great?

Did the steelers offense work without Ben? the bengals in the playoffs? dolphins? patriots without Garoppolo? packers without Rodgers?

No offense works with an incompetent QB, Cooper is overrated even with Carr, Crabtree had always been average or slightly better, Murrays only upside is catching the ball and the nigger ain't running to win games.

The raiders without Carr have the browns offense, an elite oline with a ghost QB to misfire at whatever talent is available.

you're right. because connor cook, the rookie QB who had never taken an NFL snap before, couldn't play well on the road against a top defense while the team's best offensive lineman out the raiders offense must be browns-tier. are you listening to yourself?
>The raiders without Carr have the browns offense
no, they don't. i've explained this like 8 times jesus. the raiders were 6th in the league in rushing yards and 10th in yards/carry. crabtree and cooper are miles better than pryor and hawkins or whatever, not to mention that the line was so much better. cameron erving was like the shittiest center in the league. cleveland's running game was underrated, but oakland's passing game and overall offense was just miles better, obviously somewhat because of carr, but also because they were just better at every position but LT.

Shut the fuck up stupid cheese eating florida man

Anyways wouldn't you agree the packers offense without Rodgers kinda devolves into the browns too? minus Jordy being there?
>>
>>74654059
Well it depends on who you put in there in place of him.

Back in 2013 when Rodgers was out for nearly half the season, the QBs we used were a 2nd year Scott Tolzien, a 34 year old Seneca Wallace, and then finally Matt Flynn who was at least familiar with the system.

If Rodgers was gone now, our QB would be Brett Hundley who has looked good in preseason but has essentially zero regular season QB experience. Either way it wouldn't be nearly as bad as it was back then, and I don't think it would be Browns level bad. Probably draft pick 10-12 range.

>Malcolm Butler's agent is trying to get other teams to sign him and forfeit a 1st rounder for Stephon Gilmore type $

Butler's agent is fucking retarded holy shit

Not only is no fucking team going to give up a 1st AND sign him to 15+ million a year, but his fucking dumb agent also doesn't realize the Patriots still have 30+ in cap room to match any fucking offer that he gets.

So literally, if some team tries to sign him off a tender (because he's restricted) it's virtually a guarantee that whatever time they lock him down for, the Pats can literally just fucking match and utterly fuckover Butler in the process.

How fucking retarded can agent be?

Just fucking sign the tend and play until Free Agency next season if you want him to cash in big. Or make him hold out.

You can't fucking play hardball against the Pats, you won't win. They have all the fucking control.

There was an article recently that detailed how dumb his agent was.

He basically became an agent after watching hard knocks or some shit and he generally has no clue what he's doing. The articles literally asked well known agents around the league and the consensus was that Bill was going to eat him alive in FA talks.

Playing the business, like Belichick has always done.

RFA means RFA tenders and there's no need to overextend if the agent is asking for an unnecessary amount of money.

I mean it's not like Bill already tried to offer him the equivalent pay over rookie/RFA deal (average wise) and then let him hook...

Whole point of having an agent is to make sure you also exploit the business on your end and get yourself the proper guarantees you deserve. Malcolm's clearing isn't.

Restricted Free Agent means just that.

A team has control over a player. There's a thing called a tender that allows the team to assign an NFL designated amount of money to that player for the season, and that value will also count towards the cap.

These players are ones that have been under team control out of their rookie deals and just now starting to be open to the market to all teams.

Difference is, once a team makes an offer to the player, in the form of an offer sheet, the team that has control over the player can match it within a certain time frame and retain said player.

If the team doesn't match it, the other team then gets the player, but they have to give back draft compensation in return.

Tenders for an RFA vary, both in cost and in what a team would have to give back in compensation.

For example, Malcolm Butler has been assigned a 1st Round Tender, valued at 3.91 Million this year. He has yet to sign it because his agent is a cuck.

The other smaller stuff you can just google.
