Yeah, instead you get four of them fighting it out each year, with one of them only being good on ovals (Castroneves), one of the only good on road courses (Power) and the other two crushing it everywhere.

I hate ABC's coverage with a passion. The only good thing abut it is Allen Bestwick and sometimes you can tell that the professional side of him gets really strained having to listen to Eddie "Practice for the Indy 500" Cheever and Scott "Football Field a Second" Goodyear, with Cheever trying to convince people that he "Won Le Mans once" and that his F1 career wasn't a total failure really grating on my nerves.

penske booted montoya to make room for josef newgarden. As a montoya fan I think it stinks, but I don't blame penske for wanting to get newgarden, that dude's still young and he's gonna go places. Montoya's still gonna drive the indy gp and 500 and he'll probably be involved with penske's IMSA program they're launching next year.
>>74642526
the GOAT template for a 3 man commentating crew is Pro Anchor/Host guy (Bestwick, Page, etc), Ex-Driver, and Ex-Strategist/Crew Chief. Having 2 ex-drivers, especially 2 so undeservingly arrogant ones such as Goodyear and Cheever, makes the broadcast unwatchable.
Fox is making the same mistake on their nascar coverage with Gordon AND DW.

>tfw all the NASCAR guys bully me for being a Montoya fan

Cheever's technically Italian, because he was born on an USA Airforce Base in Italy, originally had an Italian racing license from the FIA and even learned to speak Italian as a kid before learning English.

>>74642696
Montoya stopped caring after he didn't win the 2015 title. It's not like he suddenly forgot to drive in one season, he just didn't bother. Apparently to the point that he would just show up 2 mins before a session, drive a bit, then fuck off and not even set up the car properly. So I think his booting is justified and probably what both sides wanted anyway.
Here's hoping Montoya still goes and does Le Mans before going full Marlon Brando mode with the food

>T. Bell getting all butt-hurt over defending how he raced at Indy
Are race "engineers" actual professional, certified engineers who graduated from engineering schools or are they just one by name?
>>74642766
Another reason is that his son is getting into Pro Karting this year and JPM admitted that he wanted to help him through that the same way his father backed him up when he was young.
>>74642793
Tracy doesn't give a fuck, don't think he ever has
Marco Andretti is also just a total fucking shit driver so shit talking him is entirely justified, he is literally only in racing because his last name happens to be Andretti and it happens to be a bit of a family business for them
Another NFL-related person giving the starting command.
Why am i not surprised

>>74643055
Because all ABC cares about is keeping The Indy 500. They only do these other races as part of their contract and in truth, AbC/ESPN have really started to move away from covering any kind of motors port on a regular basis (To the point that ESPN usually doesn't have any updates on their 24/7 "News Crawl" about F1, NASCAR or Indycar).
And Graham Rahal goes back to being a whiny little bitch. Shame.

Because ESPN/ABC only broadcast like 4 professional races all year, so why should they try so hard/ spend alot of money?
>>74643107
No real run-off areas and Indycars are monstrously fast, so an off could be fatal unless they put up SAFER barriers in certain places.
>>74643113
Can't Lynch the Hinch
Why do they pray before every race???
>>74643103
All ESPN cares about are football/basketball these days. The anchors and talent snort and smirk whenever they have to talk baseball or hockey, let alone something as degrading as motorsports.
>The Mayor of Hinchtown
How the hell did Hinchcliffe get that nickname anyway?
>>74643144
Because they are risking their lives
>>74643155
Here at least they have IndyCar, Moto GP and F1 highlights.
But the remainder programming is FOOTBALL
>>74643144
Because God bless America and so on
>>74643155
Exactly. They treat racing like it's the Kentucky Derby for one particular race (The Indy 500), then shit on the whole sport for the rest of the year.
>>74643155
They've been like that for almost 2 decades tho. I wonder why they even bother bidding on these rights just for one race.
>>74643144
America is a majority Christian country and there's no reason to bow to other's whims when it's in America's best interests to at least remain culturally Christian regardless of whether people believe it.

That doesn't matter, remaining culturally Christian acts as a bulwark against Islam, cultural Marxism, and moral relativism(by giving a firm standard by which society can judge what is acceptable and what is not).
Religion is also great at increasing birth rates(another good way to avoid being conquered), athiests have a REALLY hard time having children it seems.

Holy shit. Here's google's translation:
IndyCar series leader Randy Bernard tried to attract also Kimi Räikkönen in the same competition, with Dan Wheldon lost his life at the weekend.
Originally designed by Bernard, the five-million-dollar cash prize would be driven by external series newcomer drivers.
- I have read about the last Indy-race idea. Drivers are certainly interested in it, because there is a lot of money, Raikkonen said in April Autosport magazine.
Raikkonen, however, decided not to go to Las Vegas because it was not sure if she a good car.
- There's always said that you get the best car, but I do not know. It's so different, Räikkönen thought in the spring.
The race, which was lured Räikkönen, received on Sunday a fatal turn when a total of 15 cars went big chain collision.
Experienced Dan Wheldonin car burst into flames, and the British driver kiidätetty hospital subsequently died from his injuries in a collision.
His perishing is widely surtu motor sport in the world.

I don't mind Arbys or Shaq shilling for IcyHot but goddamn ABC sitcoms are absolute trash
Everyone knows Indycar is literally 1 big crash away from getting openwheel cars banned from racing on ovals forever
The Indy speeds are like end of Monza straight fast. You can't really get the sense of speed but if you lose control or crash into the fucking CONCRETE barrier at those speeds you are simply just dead, and if someone crashes into your car, they are dead as well
It honestly says a lot about the quality of these drivers that there aren't more massive losses of control and massive crashes and deaths every oval race ever

No it was a bigger back then. Less to dilute people's attention. The 500 used to be HUGE. Way bigger then today when it's just another race in the series and only die hard race fans and foriegners care. Also there was more then just smiley there was a horrific crash at the start because of a dumb rookie. Everyone was super nervous about the big race in those days.

Like 90% of the camping is outside the circuit. Just this year they are adding some more infield camping but its pretty much only along the road course back straight while their are fields and fields of it adjacent the speedway.
If you just want to drink for 3 days straight, go to the Coke lot. I have never been, but my understanding is that it is essentially insanity. Other camp grounds are fine though.
Make sure you go to the museum the day before the race and get to the track early Sunday so you can stand on the banking. If you go earlier in the week (up to mid day Saturday) there are a few tents mext to the museum where guys keep their vintage cars between demonstration runs. Awesome to look at

You know as far as I was perplexed by Bourdais moving to Dale Coyne (that have been synonimous of mediocre drivers : Vitolo, Kurosawa, Dracone), that might be a good move. Especially if he keeps on doing feats on road course (not that I don't remember that one Milwaukee race but still).

It's really funny because African Americans are only 14% of the population in the US, but you'd swear by the advertising, especially in McD'a commercials, that they are more like 75% of the population.
The only White male they showed in their commercial was a pasty white ginger who they portrayed as a loser excited about finding some change.
