Not surprising. In fact, I'm pretty sure it was due to Robert Wickens being hyped up to drive for Marussia at some point (even though he took part of the practices of the Canadian GP, I don't remember the correct year however). Maybe 2011, still not sure.

I'm not sure, I don't remember really much of anything pertaining to Rob in mainstream media. I think a big part of it has to do with James Hinchliffe in indycar, he's by far the most well known race driver in Canada. Another thing is that TSN (Canadian equivalent of ESPN) has been carrying better motorsport coverage including full sky F1 broadcasts.

Have you watched the sportscenter segments on Stroll in testing. They don't really do a good job of keeping the expectations low for Stroll this season.

Friendly reminder that even though I don't really like Hill he should have won in 1994, the fact that incident was considered a racing incident is beyond me. Thankfully in 97' Schumi got exposed. Also wasn't the Benetton over both 94' and 95' illegal?

THE BIGGEST ASSHOLE IN THE WORLD

>>
>>74632675
>>74632591

desu Hamilton not running Rosberg off the track in Abu Dhabi was one of the most beta things to ever occur in F1, just short of yielding to team orders. When the WDC was on the line (with the WCC locked up, no less) he had ample opportunity to run into Rosberg and attempt to end his race, but instead he chose to have a emotional meltdown in the last quarter of the race.

Senna did it, Prost did it, and Schumi did it. Even though intentionally wrecking his teammate carries the possibility of expulsion from his team and complete exclusion from the 2016 standings, it was literally the only way he could have won the WDC. To not take that risk is to literally expose your lack of dedication to the pursuit of the WDC and I hope Valtteri is well aware of this when they are side by side into the first turn of Australia.

All of those intentional crashes to secure the champions hip should have been punished like in 1997, regardless of the person. Schumi was the only one of those culprits who actually got punished, if the same happened to Senna and Prost then so be it. When i said exposed, I was talking abnout the incidents, not the future ability of winning 5 more straight.

What would have happened if Hamilton had torpedo'ed into Bossberg in Abu Dhabi without damaging his own car and won the race? The FIA would disqualfy him, but he would still top the standings. Would he be the legitimate WDC or what?
>>
>>74632675
It is interesting because Piquet and Prost are portrayed as the most evil motherfuckers in the history of F1 just because they continuously bullied Mansell, yet Senner is le good god man fast as fuck GOAT legend because he was friends with him.

Red Bull to have chassis and engine upgrades at Melbourne.

Daniel Ricciardo has confirmed Red Bull will have an upgraded chassis and power unit for the first race of the season.
“I think Melbourne we’re going to see a little bit from both sides, from the power unit and the car will have some more aero bits on it,” said Ricciardo after his final run in the car in pre-season testing.

Ferrari set the quickest time of testing so far today prompting speculation they may be able to challenge Mercedes when the season begins. But Ricciardo believes Red Bull will be able to match their performance.

“We certainly haven’t shown our pace yet,” he admitted. “So if you were to put some markers down and say Ferrari’s at the moment their closest challenger, I think that’s fair.”

Is this a RedBull attempt at a blindside? Pull out the true pace in Q3. Will 2017 be an exciting 3 way battle for the constructors?

GP2/F2 now needs an update with a new car.
GP2 only adopted DRS recently to give the drivers another button on the steering wheel on their GP2 car to help "prepare" them for F1.

I remember in interviews Conor Daly and Alexander Rossi talking about one of the biggest differences between a GP2 car and F1 is the number of buttons on the steering wheel.

a strange sadness comes over me as i day dream about what to do tonight, but a light appears at the end of that sadness and loneliness. A 7 time champion type of light. A light that resembles the number 48 if you can avoid squinting from its radiance. That light, is Jimmie Johnson, and NASCAR goes to Las Vegas tomorrow. The Glory of Jimmie Johnson guides us through the darkest of times, in the loneliest nights, with the weakest of hearts. God bless Jimmie Johnson.God bless America.

This has happened to Australia in every war we've pretty much ever fought in, USA and MacArthur fucked around with us all of WW2 after the North Africa campaign because they didn't even want us around. Leaving North Africa was a big mistake, the New Zealanders stayed with the British divisions all war long and fought up the entire length of Italy with them, meanwhile Australia sat around in Port Douglas in New Guinea basically getting told to stay out of America's way.

>>
>>74640816
Of course there are gonna be setbacks, and not too few of them. But you have good introspection and identified the problems, as well as taken good steps with the therapy and medication. Now it's your turn to stick to your diet plan, try to not make excuses for yourself and pull through. Sure, there will be times at which you fail, but don't get discouraged by those. And don't expect instant results on the scale, that kinda shit takes some time. Patience is needed, just like waiting for Ferrari to git gud again.

Comments from Honda Engineer:

I’ve always been known as a 反逆者 at Honda so I’m going post my opinion about this year’s PU and HRD in general. I was asked by a Honda enthusiast and journalist about this year’s PU and overall direction and here was my response from March 6th.

F1 has also changed immensely. Mostly the technology has become so complex that I don’t see how this translates to cost cutting. I suppose that eventually some of this technology might find its way into passenger cars but at what price? Can $150,000 ES devices be brought down to a level where it can be used in a $35,000 passenger car? I don’t see it even with economies of scale. At the end of day, everything is still petrol based. How does this translate to alternative fuels, etc.?

1/2
>>
>>74641680
I fell asleep during that one and missed all that
>>
>>74641816

The current PU overall I think is very good and I am excited about it. But, lack of actual track testing it makes it difficult. Honda has not used test mules because mainly we don’t know when to stop. That is a fault. HRD is constantly trying to make improvements until the last moment and I struggle at times with this mentality. I was this way in the ‘80’s but I have changed. There comes a point where you need to concentrate on improving what you have built rather than constantly trying to build new versions. This between you and me is Honda’s biggest weakness at this point IMO. This IMO leads to lack of testing time for each upgrade. What is better, 5,000 hours of testing on 10 different versions or 10,000 hours of testing on 5 different versions? Arai-san especially thought the former. Then when I think okay this is good enough for now, some interpret that as quitting. So in this aspect, I get frustrated. My contract ends in 30 days and I will not renew. I am done with F1 as a consultant/engineer. It’s not fun anymore.

So I hope this PU can be exploited to its full potential. The power is there, the efficiency is there and as usual, reliability is the big question mark because mainly of what I have mentioned before. This of course has caused friction between us and McLaren and it is a very, very difficult partnership. I don’t know what the future lies but I know we have put tremendous effort into this PU. Almost everything is new. This is what IMO we should have built for 2015. Things will break. The latest failure was a valve-train issue stemming from an electrical problem. This is a problem that is being addressed currently and I think should be resolved before Melbourne.

Korea isn't even that bad of a track I don't think.

Actually both India and Korea are good tracks to drive in the F1 games. Korea even had some good races, I dunno why it got such a hard time. Of course the way it was organized was a clusterfuck full of retardation but the racing itself wasn't half bad. Not every race can be a classic.

India was just shit all 3 times, anyone with any racing experience could tell you after 1 lap that it is not a suitable track for good F1 racing.

They didn't intend to have a YouTube channel. It's an afterthought but the production values are so high. Piled money into it. That Catchpole guy in that video used to front EVO too.
>>
>>74644415
I don't think Melbourne is the kind of circuit where they'll be hugely faster around. Not compared to a circuit with very long radius corners like Suzuka or Spain.

Shorter braking distances will probably be the biggest time gainer, as most of the small to medium radius corners will only provide a small increase in speed. Sector 3 will probably be the biggest difference between last year and this year.

German telecommunications industry is fucking shit, we pay some of the highest prices in Europe and have a tiny amount of data.

Currently paying 36 Euros per month for 3GB of LTE Data (without a phone). With a smartphone attached it would shell up to 55 Euros per month.

fair point

but who always had problems getting the tires warmed up for one lap and now tires are even harder?
>>
>>74644780

I think Kimi and Vettel will be more or less equal in quali like they were in 2016, but Vettel will be better in races. Vettel has some ability to pull off ridiculous stints in races, plus Kimi will probably continue to get "experimental and innovative" Ferrari strategies

Hnng nice car mate, fully jelly

A Fairlady 240z is a bit of a dream car of mine but they are so expensive nowadays, or have been for a while. Plus I don't necessarily have the technical know-how to really maintain and fix a car that old. Should probably learn

Everyone's gotta own a shitbox at some point. There is a certain fun in driving a shit car that you can buy for like 1000 euros or less, especially if/when they are rock solid reliable.

I don't think I'll ever buy a brand new car though, prices are ridiculous compared to the used market

tnx, for some weird reasonthey're actually really cheap here, you can get one for something around 1500-2000 euros if you're lucky, but you do have to put some extra money on them to fix them. Mine is fine but the engine needs to be taken care of and the interior looks like shit and smells like cat.

Yeah, one of my best friends does exactly that. You know like putting a Camaro SS engine in a fucking 1990 Honda Civic lol. He's helping me with this car.

>>
>>74646202
Leaf license plate too. Proud.
>>
>>74646426
I've never seen one. There's cameras on a lot of intersections for running reds but a lot of those are decoys, they don't even work. I take it through a nice canyon road at 1-2am when there's no one on the road and go about a 100 mph through it. Then there's a nice straight toll road that no one uses at that time and I got it to 140 there, I think it maxes at 155 or something.

>>74646534
Yeah speed limit is 65 mph on that toll road, but just about everyone goes 80, don't see many cops and they only stop people going more than that

Me neither. There are a few states, Texas and like Montana I think where they have some 75 mph roads, but not many.

At least most people drive over the limit and cops don't usually care unless you're reckless or way over or dark skinned. The problem is the simps that drive right at or below the limit in the left lane and dgaf about anyone else.

Ferrari starts season off strong, maybe even winning a few races. Both RB and Mercedes will outdevelop them by the halfway point

RB are the kings of in season development (2009, 2010, 2013, 2016 etc), I think their design philosophy especially with this car is to start off simple and then bring in updates and parts that make the car more complex and better as the season goes along.

Either way, Merc is likely running a low powered engine mode just to fuck with people. What is good about those numbers though is that it seems the gaps have closed significantly and there might be some actual battles for wins this year.
