It didn't feel like a move the patriots needed to make, they got by fine with the guys they got, and hogan was good on the deep routes even though he's not nearly as fast.

part of me thinks the pats are seriously moving on from Brady after 2017, and Cooks was added to help Jimmy's transition.

Have you retards ever considered that maybe

Just maybe

To win consistently and over a long period of time that a coach and a QB can both contribute. Strong leadership at both leads to stability within an organization in a league where many teams turn over entire staffs and teams constantly. Knowing you can build a roster around a great QB means you can mask deficiencies elsewhere, and having a great coach means your team will always be on the same page for you to make plays with, maximizing what they do best on both sides of the ball even when you're not on the field

Has it occurred to you that a great coach can lead a great QB to higher peaks and also vice-versa, that success in a sport with so many moving parts can never truly be attributed to one single person. A great coach or QB may be able to win one Super Bowl primarily through their own skill (see Rodgers, Aaron) but to be consistently dominant requires both. If they are two of the greatest of all time, then it stands to reason they will win constantly.

I really would like to see what you people would have said about Montana when Young won a Super Bowl after he left

If they get Romo, maybe. If that happens, better cross your fingers that he doesn't break another clavicle or re-injure his back behind the spotty O-line that seems to continually be getting worse due to aging (Duane Brown), injury (Derek Newton and both his patellar tendons, Duane Brown and his quad, etc) and loss in FA (Ben Jones and Brandon Brooks).

What's worse is that, from what I hear, this draft isn't great for O-linemen.

If the Texans don't get Romo, then I don't know what the hell they'll do. Get Cutler? Jesus Christ. Start Savage? I like him and his name/looks make a good meme (Macho Man and Nicolas Cage), but he's injury prone and not that good anyway. Draft a youngin'? Even if they somehow scored a darkhorse prospect, he'd probably end up starting sooner than later and be under constant pressure due to a questionable O-line and a mediocre running game.

At this point, it seems the Texans hopes rest on getting Romo and gambling that he doesn't get hurt before the season starts.

I'm glad the Texans got rid of Brock Lobster, but things still don't look great. Hell, I'm even scared that Watt's already reached his peak performance and will only suffer more debilitating injuries the longer he plays.
>>
>>74612618
Like the post said, second best in the league with throwing more than 20. Brady can throw long when he needs to its just that the offense is built on guys like Edelman that good at catching check downs and running. To beat them you need a strong secondary playing man and a good pass-rush, the Steelers don't have that, and two of their three best players (Ben and Bell) get injured all the time.

Marino is an overrated faggot.

>played in an era when every team just played against the run, play action was the bread and butter of every offense
>Marino's offense shocked everyone by 4 wide sets
>teams didn't know how to counter it because most defenders were fat and slow as shit back then
>the concept of nickel and dime back didn't even exist yet
He was literally just exploiting a gimmick for a few years and then after the league adjusted in the late 80s he never went to the Superbowl again, he never had a 5000 yard season again, he was maybe the 3rd or 4th best QB in the league after that point. If he played today he wouldn't be considered top 20, to rank him that high while not ranking Brees or Rodgers is ridiculous and only a result of sports media that's been hyping him as one of the GOATs.

And the fact he never won a ring has nothing to do with it.

Montana is the same exact quarterback as Brady, he made his living on the short, efficient bread and butter pass. Saying Brady or Manning couldn't have played in the 80s is some of the most casual shit NFL "fans" who never watched football back then like to spout.

>but muh hits

Players now are far bigger, faster, and more skilled than they used to be. Stop watching Jack Tatum highlights like a knuckledragging retard and thinking every play was like that.

Are super teams going to become the norm in the NFL like in the NBA?
The patriots now are reminiscent of Lebron's heat in terms of dominance. I'm wondering if we'll see more teams like this to come.
>>
>>74613064
I think their are merits to playing in any era but the whole super team narrative is wrong. Players did not have the same right they do today and free agency wasn't the way it was now. Most championship teams best players were still drafted. Only time ever it got into a bidding war was the 49ers cowboys arms race in the 90s but even then the 49ers perfected an innovative offense and the cowboys built their dynasty through the Herschel walker trade, not fa.

It is a point, half of the pass rushing or coverage techniques we utilize now didn't even exist in the 80s. JJ Watt and Von Miller alone shit on every defender to ever play in the 80s.

Brady and Montana are basically the same guy, except Brady has the benefit of playing in a less physically punishing era.

fuck /sp/ just lives to be contrary
>>
>>74613788
not that guy but GOAT arguments are kind of dumb and it's retarded for people to take them so seriously because eras, teams, circumstances are all vastly different

Unitas/Moon/Starr/etc played in a different era from Marino/Montana who played in a different era than Manning/Brady, who will play in a different era from Carr/Luck/insert whoever you like here for "next great QBs". Rule changes, league structures, athletes getting bigger/faster/stronger, etc will make all things relative.

All these records that Manning, Brady, etc set will fall eventually, especially if the NFL goes to an 18 game schedule next year. Look at the yardage some retards like Stafford put up year in and year out. Add a couple of games to that and the next great QBs will likely break records.

Ultimately people will hold onto what they saw as a kid or what was older as being "better" than what is currently on. I don't think many people who are in, say, a 25-30 y/o age bracket are too impressed with the young group of quarterbacks now compared to who was playing when they were growing up, and the guys that are about to retire.

Steve Smith and Anquan Boldin both did similar feats(not knocking either of these guys)

point being there's a lot of guys coming down the pipe and Reggie Wayne's numbers are going to look different when he's finally eligible

He was a #2 for over half his career which is going to hurt him a lot.

I mean on the ballot next year is going to be Randy Moss, T.O., Issac Bruce, and Torrey Holt and not all of them are going to get in.

Anquan Boldin and Steve Smith were both elite WRs. Brady had exactly one elite WR - Randy Moss, and he never won anything with him.

Most likely to stop them.

#1 Broncos? They need to get Romo, have him stay healthy and get the 1 seed.. not easy. If that happens they have a great shot to do it
#2 Dallas? If they fix their D. I think Their O will improve and with their OL they can probably impose their will somewhat the Pats DL.
#3 Falcons? If they don't crumble from the loss last year and improve more on D they have a shot. Also make better coaching choices.

No one else.

Houston? Lost their top CB. Can't stop Brady now likely especially with Cooks (if Gronk is there for the playoffs no way).
GB? D still shit.
Seattle? OL/running game still a question mark. And on a neutral field it won't work out.
Pitt? Still running zone blitz? Fuck off.
Raiders? D won't stop Brady.
