It's a game played 15 a side. Each player has a wooden stick called a hurley, and use it to hit a ball called a sliotar, about the size of a baseball or about that. The players try to hit the either between the posts for 1 point, and into the goal for 3 points. Would suggest watching the 2013 Cork vs Clare Hurling Champion ship for a great example of it, that is if I'm remember the right game.

I'm not even sure that with our supposed max capacity (ie. Fofana, FTD not being injured), that would changed anything. It had been talked many any times since the Kiwis buttfucked >us during the last RWC and the promised changes aren't coming.

We're basically waiting we got past the RWC2019 to evaluate our chances. But so far, the Noves era is the continuity of our (now) 10 years of doing shit but being preoccupied by European Cups (shit nobody cares) and our own domestic championship.

don't buy that the welsh defence was excellent

it was good but our attack is impotent in nature

for all the stick earls gets he was good tonight though tbf

our gameplan is retaining possession and trying to build pressure but we're incapable of capitalizing on it, 21 phases in the welsh 22 is testament to that

our lineout is too inconsistent too

do we even have a backs/attack coach? or is it schmidt?? because it's decent in what it sets out to do, excellent infact in retaining possession and building phases, but what that is is ineffective

i dont think it's as a consequence of the players either, it's a coaching issue

WAYOLS PLAYER RATINGS
Evans-5, held Furlong at bay and did enough work in the loose
Owens-6, carried and tackled well and his darts were good
Francis-6, never been a fan but worked well in the loose and looked like he had the nudge on McGrath.
Ball-4, workmanlike is all I can really say. Lost a point for the stupid penalty
AWJ-7, made his tackles and carried strongly. Usually got us over the gainline when he had the ball
Warburton-8, one of our best players. Carried well in traffic, monstrous tackling and was a nuisance at the breakdown. Totally nullified Stander
Tipuric-8, tackled incredibly and was our best forward in attack. MotM for me
Moriarty-5, worked hard and didn't really do anything wrong
Webb-7, some mong moments but otherwise good
Biggar-5, did well but not great. Some flashes of class but really a very average Biggar performance
Williams-7, defended very well and looked dangerous every time he had the ball.
S Williams-7, the best centre on the pitch today by some distance
J Davies-5, carried and tackled well, but he really is a fucking pie with no rugby IQ. Beck when?
North-6, great going forward and made his hits but got properly found out under the high ball
Halfpenny-4, not his day. Exposed under the high ball and didn't offer much going forward except as a pair of hands. Did tackle well though

>>
>>74609018
Ireland was known as the land of saints and scholars prior to English colonisation. It was the only place not to fall to shit when Rome fell because the rest of Europe was reliant on Roman gibs. European nobles had to send their children to Ireland for education.

The meme that Brits went round the world to spread civilisation is nice and all, but it was only really true in sub-Saharan Africa, the Americas and parts of the Middle East. They actively worked to keep Irish from education. People teaching Catholics had to work for free and taught kids in "hedge-schools" travelling from place to place and were under threat for it.
>>
>>74609070
>Wales were simply better than you
Wouldn't deny this. Disappointing thing is that Wales weren't that good. Ireland were horribly one-dimensional... AGAIN.

It was the same problems Ireland have shown since early 2015. Weak out wide in attack and defence, one-out runners going absolutely nowhere, non-existent backs, aimless box-kicking and (since O'Connell retired) pathetically weak mauls.

If at least three of these things aren't dealt with, England will fuck >us.

Ireland were looking on top in the first half, but there was one scrum that seemed to change everything. It was the one that "wheeled around".

McGrath is our strongest scrummager, Francis is pretty weak comparatively. However, Evans let Furlong wheel him around easily while Francis managed to hold McGrath, it seemed to fry Ireland's heads and after that they got confused and kind of bottled it. I'm not complaining, it was clever play, but if French analysis picks up on it, they'll be able to counteract it.
>>
>>74609716
Well done on overcoming your savage heritage. Glad to see some held on to our work
>>
>>74609848

I've said it before, but your back 3 is fucking rank. Zebo, Earls and Kearney are barely international quality and I'm not sure they'd be starting for many other Six Nations sides.

Rory Best was at his temperamental worst today which really doesn't help but overall your pack generated enough clean ball to score tries and once again your backs didn't deliver.

Robbie Henshaw? Don't get the hype at all. Ringrose looks promising but at the moment he's not got a huge amount to work with.

If it wasn't for Sexton you guys would be fucked behind the pack.
>>
>>74609848
>McGrath is our strongest scrummager, Francis is pretty weak comparatively
I agree usually, but looking at the overhead shots today Francis played a blinder at scrum time. He managed to get himself in a position to split Best and McGrath, and though the drive wasn't quite there to do it he stopped any Irish drive against him stone dead. Evans held up against Furlong well apart from the wheeled one
>>
>>74609926
>Robbie Henshaw? Don't get the hype at all
He's a lot better at 13. Scott Williams was by far the best centre on the pitch today though
>>
>>74609992

I don't think I've ever seen Henshaw play for Ireland and think "wow he's great, I wish he was Welsh".
>>
>>74609926
I disagree on Henshaw, he's class, he's asked to just truck it up and he does it really well, excellent aswell defensively, massive for a 23 year old and I don't mean his size

Ringrose was quiet I thought, played how I feel is the failings of our gameplan and coaches, very intelligent and amazing defender for a 22 year old 13 with talent and ability going forward

Watch them for Leinster and how they play, they're really excellent together and compare that with their attacking for Ireland

I agree out back 3 is probably the worst in the tournament bar Italy

Sexton is literally a class above as well, a more intelligent 10 than any other in world rugby, execution can be off maybe a very little bit though
>>

If you took the best aspects of each of the 3 of them you would barely have a test quality player
>>
>>74610290

I thought Zebo might turn into a decent player but for some reason he's just morphed into a jinky stepper with no pace at all. If he was quicker he'd probably be quite good because he's a good footballer and handy under the high ball. Defensively a weak link but oh well, at least with a winger you can hide it somewhat.

Also why is he so fat?
>>
just got back from the pub lads, still haven't stopped laughing at earls running the ball back and twitching off both feet constantly like he has good footwork or something
>>
Thought Sexton was better than Biggar but Webb was better than Murray.
>>
>>74610290
Zebo is so overrated

Earls just isn't test quality despite being good tonight and on other occasions

Kearney has been solid tbf, excellent in the kick chase tonight and his defensive positioning is superb (the most important aspect of fullback play) but not good enough either, though they're good reasons why he's picked

Need to drop Earls (probably unlikely for his "ability" to cover centre) bring Payne in for Kearney (hopefully his ability to cover centre ousts Earls) and while I'm a fan of Trimble at 32 he needs to be fazed out while still excellent defensively with a brilliant workrate
I'd personally couldn't care if Trimble was there in the short term if Payne and an other occupied the wing

Personally I'm partial to O Halloran at the immediate moment despite some of his flaws

Yeah kearney is probably the most consistant of the three. Earls has his moments but always seems to come up short. Zebo is just getting by an charm and fan favoritism at this point.
Sad to see tommy bowe coming off injured after like 30 seconds of play, kinda felt like it was the last time we will see him in green.
>>
>>74609926
Believe me, the back three has been talked about a lot here. What's frustrating is that there are far better players out there. Zebo is quality but he's a fullback. He seems to get isolated on the wing and starts forcing things in the game. Earls was actually good this evening, but he's generally nothing to write home about. Kearney is a dead meme. Bowe? Well, it's all been said. Should be O'Halloran, Zebo and Gilroy.

Rory Best wasn't noticeably bad. Anyone who's played rugby knows that a bad lineout that isn't visibly crooked is rarely the hooker's fault. Toner has never been the best organiser in my opinion.

As for Henshaw, at Connacht he looked like he could become an Irish Nonu. Now he looks like becoming an Irish Basteraud. He was a fullback at 20, now he's become an inside centre?

Ironically Sexton seems to make the team play worse. He's better than Jackson individually, but Schmidt gives the team more freedom to improvise when Jackson's playing, while Sexton micromanages everything. Sexton is a really smart rugby player, but he isn't smarter than 15 opposition players together. His best performances always seem to come when he's returning to take over from Jackson, eg. first game vs NZ or against France. The rest of the team is used to playing with Jackson, and Sexton slotting in gives a bit more quality.

Gilroy is shite you spastic, nowhere near test quality

Toner is our best lock, we lost one line-out going to Stander early because we have few options as jumpers and he's not a great jumper at 6' 1" and 17 stone

>You're entirety utterly wrong about Sexton
How so? It's true, the other backs take more responsibility when he's not there. It's not his fault, but it's a noticeably recurring trend.

It's a bit like Galway hurling. They're at their best when Joe Canning is returning from injury, but when he's been in the team for an extended period of time the forwards become reliant on him to do everything for them. It doesn't mean that Canning is worse than the guy who was replacing him, just that the other lads stepped up to the mark more.

The only Irish back who's an exception to this is Conor Murray, who performs well regardless.

How did this happen? The game was pretty even (up until Sexton's yellow) and suddenly 22?
I couldn't make it to the end, tho.

Also, the commentators mention, again, that 6N could be reformed so that one spot would be open for the best European team form the "second league" (with wooden spooners relegation). Is this true, or is it just a thing that gets mentioned every fuckin year and won't be ever actually done?

Italians seem to focus on beating a different team every year. Last time (or was it two years ago?) they went with France and prior to that it was Wales I think. They used to battle Scotland, but it looks like they improved more and stopped being such an even match. Also, gives a bit of interesting to the whole thing, since on-one can be so sure about getting easy points on Italy anymore.
