help me out fellas, I'm picking a team pretty much solely on aesthetics and timezone cause I don't know enough about the sport yet. I'm drawn a lot to the Cubs, but I know they've just won it and I'm not a big fan of bandwagoning a team and getting instant success, I do like at the very least a tiny bit of suffering and missing out to make winning special.

any other options for teams who preferably aren't on the west coast, have a nice cool looking uniform/logo and shit, and have comfy game threads to relax and have a drink with, but also aren't automatic world series contenders every year.

Otherwise, I'll just stick with Cubs and hope the bandwagoning doesn't detract from the comfyness I expect to feel from this sport.

Young kids. Most migrate/graduate to other sports in high school. Kids of hispanic (mostly Mexican) immigrant families tend to hold on a little longer but mostly also graduate to American football. Girls are more likely to continue playing for a while, sometimes even into college, because American football is simply not a popular game for them to play and soccer is a socially acceptable sport for them.

Nobody besides hispanics really follows it at the pro (lel) level. Hipsters are an exception, the ones in the Pacific northwest states follow their MLS team loyally and euroboos will often pick a euro team. As you can expect of hipsters, their preferences aren't taken seriously by anyone else.

Things change during World Cup and the Olympics. It becomes a curious amusement for everyone to see how the national teams match up against other countries, just like swimming and gymnastics and things like that, which nobody except extreme enthusiasts cares about other than in rare international competitions.

In terms of pro sports league popularity, soccer is a distant fifth place behind American football, baseball, basketball, and hockey. If you include non-pro team sports, soccer is also far behind college football and college basketball.

Anyway I don't hate soccer, and I don't hate Europeans. On the contrary, during World Cup and the Olympics, my eyes are glued to the TV and it's the GOAT time to spend on /sp/.

The worst thing about pro soccer is the institutionalized tolerance of diving. It pisses me off as one of the most childish/pussified/socialist/un-American things on the face of the earth, and it makes me equally angry when I see it happen in basketball (where it happens far less frequently).

Pro soccer has no shot in this country (and there can be no such thing as a "soccer hero") as long as diving is part of the game.

You'll get to see plenty of beautiful defensive plays by Manny Machado (At least for the next 2 years, but it better be forever or Imma be pissed). We're also pretty decent offensively, but that's countered a bit by

OBP, our team would be an offensive juggernaut if we had people on base more often. Having Hyun-Soo Kim or Seth Smith leading off regularly rather than Manny Machado or Adam Jones might help greatly with that.

The other most glaring issue is our starting rotation. Our team hasn't had an ace since we got good again, and we seem to have trouble developing them, as well. Bundy looks like he is likely to become one once he gets comfortable pitching the entire season, and Kevin Gausman is gonna be a stud, believe you me. As far as the rest of the rotation goes, Tillman is solid sans a shakey 2015 and the back end is still gonna be a wildcard.

Our choices for the 4 and 5 spots are Ubaldo Jimenez (Flashes of brilliance outweighed by giving up two singles followed by a homer), Wade Miley (projected to be good? He was a dumpster dive last season so any production out of him is better than still having Steve Cleavenger), Tyler Wilson, and Mike Wright. Last two are still young and I wish them the best but desu they're running out of chances to prove themselves.

I mean any of their games can go either way suddenly, between our pitching and offense (Being in the AL East helps, too), there were tons of high scoring games on both sides.
