But I also don't want to be dirt poor at 27 so I'm good.
>>74558373

>>74558557
He was good, not the greatest of all time but good
If i had to go for an equivalent it'd probably be a mix of Vettel (as in he use to complain alot about other riders) and Rosberg
Stoner just liked racing, but couldn't deal with all the rider politics and media hounding that came with it, so he said fuck it and retired a year after he won his second championship
I wish he'd come back for at least a few wildcards though, the testing this year shows he still has no problem at all matching the pace of the aliens
Do you think the drivers know or have been told the maximum capabilities of the car?
>>74558333

>>74558313
>overhyped
He wasn't though, everyone considered him shit Putin-backed pay-driver that overstayed in GP2 and wasn't too spectacular there, everyone laughed at his "I checked the curb" moments since day one. And he actually did reasonably well after not being able to find pace to fight Kubica, he wasn't faster than Kvyat in his better days but if Lotus/Renault didn't go to shit that year with the car not being developed at all he and Nick could've had a really good year.
>>74558617
ooth, you could be on top of the fucking world at 29/30 I would consider it personally

>>74558669
anon, would you want to drive a car if you didn't know how far you could push it before you hit the limit?
>>74558676
Yeah true, I just think he's great in general but song writing is something I've tried and it's become apparent I should just play instead, not mention I can't sing.
The thing about Noel is that alot of his lyrics are average, and a lot don't make sense, but there's some indefinable quality to them that just make the songs so great and really connect with the people listening. I've seen his High Flying Birds act a few times now and is easily superior to the majority of aussie acts I've seen at Falls and the one time I went to Splendour.

>>74558728
In Oasis, his lyricism was honestly subpar, but it was catchy, with some great lines in some songs. I think the reason it worked is because he got to the point off some things, in a really blunt and simple way. 'There are many things that I, would like to say to you, but I don't know how' is probably something that we've all thought. It's not too 'common man' and not too intellectual. It's just a perfect line.
The guitar work was also below average generally, but sometimes he did some good lines. It would be pretty good, except frankly, he has no idea what he was doing 90% of the time, and relied heavily on a capo, and lazy chord playing. In a technical sense, he's lacking, and it's hard to say he did well when he just left two fingers in the same place the entire song (Whatever) et al.
The HFB stuff is more complex, actually has proper basslines and more complex chord shapes, and most of the lyrics aren't non-sequiturs. I think overall, they're better albums, but the first two Oasis albums have some better songs, and alot of the early B-sides are GOAT.

Yeah, I think his HFB is quality, The Death of You and Me and Ballad of the Mighty I are amazing, according to him he's been working on his third since late 2015 so we might even be seeing a third LP sometime at the end of this year which is an exciting prospect. The whole story and origin of Oasis seems almost too good to be true but I guess it's just one of those right place right time instances that occur on this crazy ball of spinning mass.

Disagree. HIM does lots of religious symbolism, lots of Lovecraftian references yada yada yada. Some songs more than others. Different from angsty/edgy teen lyrics though. It doesn't necessarily make it better, but definitely different.

>>74560118
Alright. I hope they test them eventually, even if it means dropping the sandpags for a couple of laps.
>>74559980
I think you've got the wrong idea about why people like it. They don't care about the aesthetics of it (though the orange/pink is a nice vibrant color for a racecar IMO) but they like it because of how many legendary drivers have won races in that livery. The success that livery has achieved in several different series across the globe made it iconic, not the visual itself.

It's interesting to look at the steering wheel. No corrections. Turn it and it goes, no second guessing, no searching for grip, its like driving a go kart or something. Now its impossible to know how hard he was pushing or how much fuel he had. It's insane and worrying nonetheless because
option A) he was pushing hard on a quali sim lap - and the car is fucking planted as fuck when you're driving close to the limit of what it can do
option B) he wasn't actually even pushing hard and it was just a random low fuel run with no real timed importance - Alonso said Merc's are capable of 1.17s. If this is true, then well, the race pace is going to be absolutely blistering and if you have RACE laps of 1.20 or even 1.22 its going to be just insanity but also result in likely no overtakes at all.
Either way we are going to be seeing a lot of Sochi 2014 type races except with faster cars

I mean I wouldn't want it just because it would mean going backwards.
F1 shouldn't stagnate or look in the past and go "that was better lets just stick with that".
That doesn't mean the engines have to be hybrids though.
Turning the engines into V10/12's solely for entertainment reasons is no better than DRS and other gimmicks done "for the fans".

This is why I don't think Honda will stick around long enough to build a competitive engine whether it be for these regulations or the next.

Hakkinen I guess?
Sheer technical superiority over the rest of the field in terms of actual riding pace and ability, his technique raised the bar and after his arrival people began riding differently, the modern body position where everybody is insanely leaned off can basically all be traced back to two people, which is stoner and pedrosa, pedrosa actually was the guy who started doing it first, but stoner copied it and did it better.
Stoner also had godlike "feel", he could ride bikes bucking, weaving and chattering on the limit and win when other people would struggle to finish 10th on the same bikes (like the carbon framed ducatis)

Say one kind thing about the Honda power unit
>>74576840
I think what I like about bike racing, and especially motoGP for this compared to F1 (aside from all the brutal racing and overtakes and whatnot) is that the style of the operator is a lot more visual in motoGP, you have marquez who enters corners like a madman, back of the bike in the air, sliding in, foot on the ground, then you have jorge lorenzo, who never takes his feet off the pegs, never gets out of shape and has such a light touch on the bar his hand bounces around on right handers and they're every bit as fast as each other.
You can REALLY see when a motoGP rider is pushing above their limits, or when their tyres come off, when they're calm, when they're angry etc. and you just don't see that in F1 outside of perhaps max taking those crazy lines in the wet etc.

>>74579087
Moto2 & 3 are integrated into every MotoGP weekend, are part of a solid schedule, get full coverage of the standard of the premier class, and the riders get followed as they go up the ranks very well. The racing is also excellent, though that is the same with GP2 & 3. Hopefully Liberty integrate support races and the junior Formula series better into a race weekeld and give them as similar of a treatment to F1 as possible, cause GPKino is based af.

Why am I still here? Just to fight Sauber? Every race, I can feel my PU... and my tyres... even my brakes. The races I've lost... the points I've dropped... won't stop understeering... It's like Jenson is still there. You feel it, too, don't you? I'm gonna make Ron give back our points

Honda thought it was 4 during the weekend.

Ferrari have used 2, and Merc might still be on 1, based on laps both are on path to make the allotment.

Considering it's the second to last day, I wouldn't be surprised if they turned the PU up.
On the other hand, their times today were not really more impressive than their Soft and Medium runs last week, so who knows.

Alonso: I won't quit until I get the result I deserve
Fernando Alonso says he will not quit Formula One until he gets the results he feels he deserves. The outlook for Alonso's 2017 season looks bleak after a series of Honda engine issues during pre-season testing have left his McLaren car well off the pace of its rivals. The two-time world champion admitted the situation had been frustrating, but said it would not tempt him to walk away from the sport.
"I'm always going anticlockwise, so when the people go pessimistic, I go optimistic and when the people get overexcited, I get worried," he said.
"From the analysis we can do compared to the other cars, around the corners we don't lose time in almost all corners, but we're 30/40 km/h down in every single straight. Adding up all the time lost on the straights, you get the gap we have to the faster cars."

the only person comparable to stoner is schwantz, the rest could only win on the best bike (especially fucking ago, overrated shit he is and freddie, who was amazing but was a transitional champion between the 70s gen and the strong mid 80s new arrivals, he was in a weak era), schwantz was like stoner, he just rode around the problems.
All of schwantz's victories all came when he was on the 2nd or even 3rd best brand on the grid at any given moment, that's insane.
Just like your supposed superior talent in rossi could barely podium a bike stoner won 3 races on in 2010.
can't make this shit up desu senpai
Stoffel doing what he can to prevent HAM from doing a 1:1:752 before lunch. Nice one.

Mfw Mercedes run a 1:15 on softs
>My only criticism of what Ferrari has been doing in testing is that it has spent too much time on the medium tyres. With the new wider tyres and adjusted compounds for this year, this is probably going to be about the hardest tyre we will see used in 2017, that is if we ever actually see it again. Gary Anderson
Confirmed: Medium tyres used during 70% of the season.
