I'm a Yankees fan, hate the Lakers, and the answer is Kobe, not remotely close, there is literally no argument to be made to the contrary, and go fuck yourself for thinking there is some sort of discussion to be had here.

Considering the Yankees pretty much never missed the playoffs during Jeter's entire career, and baseball playoffs are far more difficult to get in to than basketball, I'll say Jeter.

Jeter also has more hits for the most storied franchise in sports than any other Yankee who ever played. Kobe owns no such Laker records.

Jeter always handled his position as SS and captain with class and dignity. Former players don't come out to complain about how awful it was working with Jeter.

Jeter was great in the postseason, Kobe, less so.

Kobe had the benefit of playing for potentially the best head coach of all time. Jeter played for a very good hall of fame coach but not the equivalent of Phil Jackson.

Jeter is easily a top 3 player at his position of all time. The same can't be said about Bryant.

It's Jeter.

>Considering the Yankees pretty much never missed the playoffs during Jeter's entire career, and baseball playoffs are far more difficult to get in to than basketball, I'll say Jeter.

That's because MLB has no real salary cap, and the Yankees were the richest team by a mile for the vast majority of Jeter's career. The Red Sox didn't even start to catch up with them in spending until the early 2000s.

>Kobe owns no such Laker records.

That's because the guys who hold the all-time records are mostly Lakers themselves. Kobe would have the Lakers points record, for example, if it wasn't for the fact that another former Lakers player was the all-time leader for the entire league.

>Jeter is easily a top 3 player at his position of all time.

I'm not even sure if he's a top 3 shortstop in his own lifetime. A-Rod was clearly better. Then you've got legendary players like Banks and Wagner.

id say there's more playoff parity in baseball now then nfl

up until the 90's only four teams in baseball made the playoffs so every team that did and over a 150+ game sample size you'd get the best teams.

but now that it's a 10 team playoff it's way easier for a team with a 55 win% to make the playoffs and anything can happen in a few games in baseball. If the 60 win twins beat the 100 wins cubs in the regular season no one cares but it'd be a huge story if the browns went into new england and beat the pats.

There is much more to prestige than merely titles: importance of the championship, the style of play, the sport you play and so on.

Nonetheless, I'm pretty sure you could find some obscure team of some obscure sport with much more "rings" than the Yankees.

But let's keep the discussion into the (((relevant))) world as your friends above like to believe. The Yankees have 27 titles, while Juventus and Real Madrid have 32 each (also Bayern have 26).

But, as I was saying, titles are not everything anyway. Even keeping it in your country, one could argue that Celtics/Lakers or Cowboys/49ers/Steelers are more prestigious than the Yankees. If nothing else, the quantity of rings they have shows the lack of parity of the old MLB.

>>
>>74465750

You will see Yankees hats and gear literally everywhere in the world.
Plus, 27 rings in the sport that essentially started professional sports.
Not to mention the dozens of icons the team produced. Ruth, Gherig, Jeter, DiMaggio, Mantle
>>
>>74470230

People all over the world walk around with Yankees hats.

No one in the cultural epicenter of planet earth (the US) gives a fuck about the soccer teams you mentioned.
>>
>>74470342
>>74470526

His career numbers stack up against any SS who ever played. Cal Ripken is statistically better but never won a World Series and sure as shit wasn't the face of the most prominent franchise in sports in the toughest media city in the US for 20 years.

The list of all time great short stops is admittedly thin compared to most every other position, but that's not Jeter's fault.
>>
>>74471330

Jeter's resume stacks up with any other SS who ever played the game. Ozzie Smith was better defensively, along with others, but they never led their franchise in hits, never won 5 WS, etc etc. Ripken was slightly better on offense but again, his resume is bare compared to Jeter's.

There were three champion teams just in NYC during the Yankee's most dominant era.

The closest North American franchise to the Yankees are the Canadiens, who's biggest years happened in a league with 6 teams (MLB had 16 since the beginning) and the franchise was older than a lot of their competition. After the expansion in 1967 (and after the biggest MC dynasty)? 12 teams, still fewer than the MLB since the beginning.
>>
Jeter and it's not even close.
>>
>>74471578
There were only teams in NYC during the first era. The MLB started as a NY league. Yankees are the first pro baseball team ever, and about fifteen to twenty years older than their closest existing competition. They were always the favorites of the city, too. If you gave another team that amount of time, an the clout of investors in NY at all times, it wouldn't be a shock if you started winning pendants.
