I think Thurman but I wouldn't be surprised whatsoever if Garcia won. It's a close fight.
>Is Garcia really just a shitter with a padded record?
Stop with this meme. Garcia has wins over Matthysse, Khan, Peterson, Guerrero and Morales. That's a damn sight better than most Welterweights.
>>
>>74394133
I think Garcia, if only for the reason that he always seems to find a way.

I think there are some legit complaints about some of the standard of opposition he's fought in the last few years, but it is very overstated (kind of similar to the way the fashionable opinion now is to shit on Canelo because people's opinions of how good a boxer he is is obscured by the fact he's not fought Golovkin yet)

Holy fuck Wilder can't box at all
>>
Ladies and gentlemen, YOUR wbc heavyweight champion of the world, the most prestigious non lineal belt in all of boxing.
>>
>>74394377
It's such a pity. He has real power, an amusing personality, the right look, but he simply cannot box. AJ sends him to the moon within three rounds. So does Haye. He wouldn't even land a glove on Fury
>>
>>74394377
dat windmill.

Also, did anyone else notice the ref try and stop it about 5-10 seconds earlier when Wilder was swinging like a madman, but didn't because if he got in there he was gonna get caught in the crossfire?
>>
>>74394418
Oh yeah, I think Parker takes him out too, though I guess Wilder might land something on him. That's the one I'd like to see first, actually, since it's the hardest to predict
>>
How shit is Stiverne that he got outboxed by Wilder for 12 rounds?

If he gets another mandatory shot without an eliminator first it's a fucking joke. I'd even pick Whyte to beat him, never mind Ortiz

>>
>>74394604
WE
>>
>>74394070

I thought Ugonoh would edge a decision before the fight. The intensity surprised me. Ugonoh won the first 2 rounds and at that point I thought he'd get a KO around round 6 as he was putting in some solid shots. Then the knockdown happened which changed everything. In round 4 he used up all his energy trying to get the KO and was gassed by round 5. The biggest thing I take from it is that people underestimated Breazeale who is a big man and when 2 lumps start throwing anything can happen.
>>
Fucking Izu

Didn't see the fight, was it a prospect shoots his load early and gasses out episode?
>>
>>74394667

Breazeale will be a step up for Wilder. Wilder tried to box last night, using the left jab to protect his right hand.. and he was arguably down 3-1 on the scorecard going into round 5. Typical Wilder swinging, he puts all his body into his punches which is why he punches hard and leaves himself open.

The PBC commentators calling him "the baddest man on the planet" after the fight is why I want to see him lose badly. An opponent who can take a punch and is his own size is enough to give him problems, he's still below average ability wise.
>>
>>74394708
Ugonoh lost for two reasons: inexperience and size

If he'd faced some sterner tests in his career to date and had learned how to pace himself in a long fight against a tough opponent, he probably would have won this

If he's mentally strong he can bounce back
>>
>>74394743

Basically. Izu started well but Breazeale can take a punch. in Round 5 he was done and not moving his head and Breazeale Joe Smith'd him through the ropes. Very entertaining fight.
>>
Help me make this better.

It'll still be 4 or 5am GMT despite being in Dubai because they want the American market, so no way it's on Sky Box Office. Maybe ITV or BT or that random channel that televised Pacquiao vs. Bradley will swoop in though, especially considering the apparent Khan vs. Hearn beef
>>
>>74394930
>>74394935

Szpilka is shit, Stiverne is shit. Wilder makes his opponents look better than they are. Stiverne ducked Joshua and wanted the WBC to install him as mandatory without fighting again after Povetkin failed test, he knows he can't mix it with the best.

Parker above Wilder, otherwise that's a basically a perfect list.
>>
>>74395835
I still have Wilder slightly ahead of Parker based on longevity, the WBC being more prestigious than the WBO, and I think I probably lean towards Wilder sparking Parker out head to head. Parker had that brace of good wins last year but they were very close decisions, and I expect the Hughie fight to be razor close too
>>

FTFY
>>
>>74395979
They're actually worse than the WBO these days

Both of them need to be de-recognised
>>
>>74395876
Parker's resume is leagues ahead of Wilder's though, and he has far better boxing fundamentals all over. Titles mean exactly nothing if you've beten nobody to get them.
>>
>>74396007
WBO is about even with the WBC, even with the VADA testing they have a lot more bullshit titles and like to play favourites with the PBC. The IBF has been in clear first place for a while now, they actually enforce their rules properly and expect their champions to defend.
>>
Who you got if/when this one happens lads? Based on last night it's probably not too far off 50/50 if Breazeale can get to round 3.
>>
>>74396045
The WBO has some good titlists because Arum uses them, but their overly cosy relationships with him and Warren are the main reasons why I think they're the most patently crooked of the four
>>
>>74396247
>unprovokedly

What a wordsmith

I think he eats too many punches to live with Wilder
>>
>>74395810

Povetkin is not number 2 you hipster. He's a past his best drug cheat who is 6'2 he won't beat super heavyweights and Joshua would spark him out.
>>
>>74396371
Everyone in boxing is a drugs cheat, some are just better at hiding it than others.
>>
>>74396045

WBO do whatever Bob Arum and Frank Warren want. It's always been the worst title, they're not legitimate as another WBA breakaway that's worse than the IBF.
>>
>>74396371
He clearly has the second strongest resume after Wlad
>>
>>74396433

I'm ranking based on who would win fights, record is not everything.
>>
>>74396371

I unironically believe Haye would still smash Povetkin up with a busted shoulder.
>>
>>74396463
My rankings are 75% record, 25% eye test

Eye test is too unreliable to be the main factor. It punishes those who take tough fights and rewards can crushers
>>
>>74396489
Povetkin would gobble him up. He's not Chisora, he would find Haye's chin and smash it to pieces
>>
>>74396581

That would be find if you were ranking for a title organisation so a fighter gets a title shot but if it's a fan list of who the best in the world are it should be 100% who would win if they had a fight right now.
>>
Wilder is absolute shit.
>>
>>74396683
>it should be 100% who would win if they had a fight right now.

But the thing is you can't truly tell how good a fighter is until they've been properly vetted, so it all comes back to resume. Based on the eye test most of us thought Ugonoh was going to beat Breazeale last night and would've probably had him higher in 100% eye test based rankigs
>>
>>74396705

He's hardly progressed at all. Doesn't have a world class jab, lost rounds to Washington when he tried to box and that windmilling where he leaves himself wide open will lead to him getting knocked out against any top 10. Breazeale is the right sort of opponent for him to fight next, he can't manage more than that.
>>
>>74396782

I think Haye, Klitschko, and Joshua would knock him out.
>>
>>74396825

If Luis Ortiz goes the WBC route and does a final eliminator against Stiverne then he'll be tested before the year is over even if he swerves the Joshua fight. Sounds like he wants Parker as well which could go badly for him.
>>
>>74396825
Joshua is an absolute stylistic nightmare for him. I can't give Wilder more than 1% chance of winning that one. He wouldn't see round five
>>
>>74396911

The Haye Wilder sparring video tells you what would happen. He'd go swinging trying to pressure, Joshua would duck it and come across with a right to put him down.
>>
Anyone think Rey Vargas could be a difficult fight for Rigondeaux?

Who are the fighters to watch at 108 and 105 lbs? I only know about Tanaka because he's so young and Yaegashi and Takayama because they lost to Gonzalez

>>
Did you know that we don't have the 105 and 108 divisions in the UK and the 112 division only has 10 active British boxers in it currently?

Incidentally, the only divisions with >100 active British pros are 135, 140, 147, 154 and 160. I actually thought the average British fighter would be heavier than that. Are manlets dispositionally more inclined to take up boxing?
>>

AJ's fights aren't very important in America, why would he know him.
>>
>>74401548
Neither are Haye's or GGG's
>>
>>74401387

Klitschko is fighting Anthony Joshua for the unified heavyweight title in front of 90,000 in London. Joshua is extremely hyped and this is the make or break match.

Golovkin is fighting his mandatory Daniel Jacobs who's ok number 3 in the world but should be no serious trouble for GGG.

Canelo is big favourite against Chavez Jr but Chavez is physically bigger and motivated so will have a chance.

Haye is fighting in a meme fight against the current WBC cruiserweight champion from Liverpool
>>
>>74401574
GGG headlines primetime American cards and he gets talked about all the time because of the canelo link. Haye has been around a lot longer and accomplished more/fought in bigger fights. There is no reason for AJ to be anything but a no-name to a casual in america so far. Though that may well change if/when he beats klitschko.
>>
>>74401574

Golovkin boxes on HBO. Haye was former WBA champion. AJ needs the Klitschko win before he will start to become relevant to Americans, if you look at the Wilder thread the casuals coming in thought Wilder was the real champion and saying things like "heavyweight boxing is dead" when we're about to have a stadium fight. You're only relevant in America if you do it in America.

Him being old wasn't stopping him from throwing punches in round 2. He was uncomfortable with Fury's unorthodox style and not having a reach advantage to jab his opponent to death with.
>>
>>74403218
I csan think of 4 people off the top of my head Klitschko has beaten with a reach advantage over him in the past. The difference was in the movement, which as a 40 year old man he obviously wasn't able to keep up with. Fury had the speed with his feet to dance in and out of range which klitschko couldn't follow, since if he did the lack of speed would have seen him get caught more often than not so he stayed on the defensive and waited for openings which never came.

It's an impressive win, but Klitschko was obviously past it in that regard, his lack of speed in the Jennings fight was obvious to anyone watching. Fury did well to exploit it, but lets not pretend Wlad isn't an old man now.

I actually despise wilder as a boxer, he's so shit he makes complete bums looks good in the early rounds then when he realises he can't box him throws his lanky powerful arms around hoping to randomly land. Wilder wouldn't be a champ if he was at LHW, Middleweight, Welterweight etc so yea it does show how weak the division is, there's only a couple good boxers at heavyweight

Wilder fought that fatty Bermaine and unironically outboxed him for the WBC title. You wouldn't have that disgrace in other divisions currently

Some money has changed hands there or Don King or Al Haymon meddling. For the WBC to publicly refuse to make Stiverne mandatory and demand a final eliminator then go back on it is a complete joke.

Deontay Wilder must be the most protected heavyweight title holder of all time. He could fight Stiverne and Breazeale now and not have to take a meaningful fight until summer 2018.

Seems a bit coincidental that the WBC say fuck it Stiverne can be mandatory right after an atrocious windmilling performance by Wilder.

Fury beat Chisora twice but Dillian Whyte beat Chisora who Anthony Joshua beat.

Fury beat Christian Hammer who is worse than Dominic Breazeale.

Both beat Kevin Johnson

Fury beat Steve Cunningham who is a crusierweight, Joshua beat Molina

Fury beat Klitschko by decision, Joshua will send him into orbit

>Wilder targets a unification with Parker in November to keep good on his promise of unifying in 2017

Lou Dibella doesn't want the Joshua fight until 2018 because he knows Wilder will lose and they think Parker being smaller can be beaten. I would give both Parker and Hughie a good chance of beating Wilder. If either Hughie or Parker look really good in that fight they might swerve it and go after Breazeale. It is going to take a long time to get that WBC belt off him.

Nah. I like Povetkin but he's just too small (and old) to compete with those monsters.
>>
>>74418898

He's 6'2 and 37 years old he's not beating Anthony Joshua you're deluded if you think this, he will lose like he lost to Wladimir Klitschko. Wilder's boxing ability is terrible, he's only perceived as top 5 because he has a belt so he would have a decent chance of winning that but even then he could catch one and go down.

When they were supposed to fight last May I was going to back Wilder just because of the size advantage. Wilder puts his whole body into single shots so if you take it flush you will go down, it's just that against somebody who can box a bit closer to his size he will get caught. Ortiz would beat him.
>>

>Nikolai Valuev
>John Ruiz
>Jean-Marc Mormeck
>Enzo Maccarinelli
>Giacobbe Fragomeni
>Audley Harrison

Is it safe to say he'll solidify his All Time Great status with a win over Anthony "the Bomber" Bellew?
>>
>>74419030

>positive tests that never happened

They'll find ways to duck no matter what. Enjoy Wilder vs another bum.
>>
>>74419005

Joshua isn't unproven. He's beat Whyte who is around 10th in the world and 6'7 Breazeale who just beat a real athletic prospect from Parker's stable. Joshua has 20 lbs more muscle on his legs than Wilder, he can generate power without throwing his whole body into it because of that. At 250 lbs with the hand speed he has he's one of the most dangerous punchers in the division. He could lose to Klitschko and this would still be true.

I don't blame Wilder for not fighting Povetkin when he tested positive right before the fight, that's not ducking. I blame him for fighting Szpilka, Arreola, Washington.

That's true but Wilder has a bronze medal so you have to take it with a pinch of salt. Anybody who knows boxing though can watch them and see that Joshua's fundamentals are better and that combined with size and power will carry him to a win over everybody outside the top 3.

>>
David Haye weighs about 102 and is the same size in height, moving up HW would be easy for based Usyk
>>
>>74419411
Yes, but he's only as nimble as he is because he's a lot smaller than the top HWs. He'd need to fight with 100% concentration and consistency because even a few power shots from someone like AJ or Ortiz would have an immediate effect on his much smaller frame.
>>
>>74419429
the only two large HWs he beat were Audley and Valuev, when he fought someone dangerous (Klitschko) he back-peddled for 36 minutes.
>>
>>74419411

Usyk isn't that quick and the same would apply to David Haye, he was also very quick but 1. It doesn't completely transfer to heavyweight, Ali started as a cruiserweight and was quicker before he gained more weight slowing him down and 2. He's not going to be able to box on the outside for 12 rounds to a points decision against every opponent.
>>
>>74419438
He can do it

He already dominated good super heavyweights in the World Series of Boxing, including last year's rightful Olympic gold medalist, Joe Joyce

>>
>>74419482
I don't disagree

>>74419467
I wouldn't consider his performance against Joe Joyce as any indication that he'd be successful at HW.

>>74419473
I agree, but Povetkin is not a big HW; we're talking more AJ, Wilder and Ortiz types of opponent. I could very well see him beat Parker (based on his performance against Ruiz Jr.) and maybe Pulev (actually beat his brother in the Olympics, but I feel Pulev is more underrated than most give him credit for.) based on his atributes alone.
>>
>>74419505

Joshua won a gold medal but even then it's irrelevant because Joe Joyce is a 31 year old amateur who spent his peak years as an amateur. Joshua is a top level pro spending his best years at pro. At heavyweight there is always the risk that a single punch will end it and size matters way more than other divisions.
>>
AJ all but admits that the rumours about Okolie and DuBois sparking him out in sparring are true

>“In my code, the fighters’ code, it is not good to talk about sparring. If someone invites you to spar, they are inviting you into their secret camp, their inner circle. So I don’t think it is fair to betray that trust by talking about it... I don’t go in there to prove a point. If anything, I like to take more punishment because that is how I learn about myself," Joshua said.

>"What is the point of going into sparring and beating everyone up, when in a real fight the tables might turn and I don’t know how to handle it? I want to practice what it feels like to be hit and hurt. You have to learn how to defend, to be slick when the punches are raining down.”

Is reach the most overrated stat in boxing? Tyson beat guys when he had a huge reach disadvantage.
>>
>>74419582
>2010s so far
>Average height: 6 foot 3.6 inches
that doesn't seem right:

>Anthony Joshua 6'6''
>Wladimir Klitschko 6'6"
>David Haye 6'3"
>Deontay Wilder 6'7''
>Tyson Fury 6'9
>Kubrat Pulev 6'5"
>Joseph Parker 6'5"
>Alexander Povetkin 6'2"
>Luis Ortiz 6'3"

and my scrap paper math tells me the average height from that group is 6'5"
>>
>>74419650

Reach matters at heavyweight, much less at welterweight.

>>

Parker is, maybe.
Ortiz is billed as 6'3" and seems a little smaller than most so I'd trust that measurement.
Pulev is 6'4" and 1/2 so just a bit bigger than 6'4"
>>

>>

Well, even if you consider Parker, Ortiz and Pulev to be 6'4" the average is still 6'5"
>>
>>74419778
Tyson fury is no longer a boxer so can't count him
>>
>>74419644
Povetkin would be the best fighter he's faced by miles, and even if he beats Wlad it wouldn't guarantee he could beat Povetkin too since the style match is so different. Joshua got stopped by Nistor in the ams who is basically a poor man's Povetkin
>>
>>74419788
but he was in between 2010-2017 which is what those are showing.
>>
>>74419668
What a dumb thing to say

Mayweather's reach was a huge component of his success
>>
>>74419796
>Joshua got stopped by Nistor in the ams
FMJ lost to some fuck off Bulgarian in the amateurs so I suppose he's not as technical as we once thought.
>>
>>74419777

So you think he'll definitely win against a top 3 heavyweight and simultaneously think that's "falling for hype"? What a spastic lmao lmao
>>
>>74419832
He'll win against an old man coming off a loss who hasn't asked for a tune up fight after an 18 month layoff so obviously doesn't care. Yes, you're a casual skydrone.

Even Bellew doesn't believe he'll win

>>74419812

How is it dumb? I said a smaller factor - because the rhythm of the fights and single shot power is different. Mayweather was a great counter puncher with fast reflexes far different to heavyweight using a significant height and reach advantage to constantly jab.
>>
>>74419855
Nor should he.

James Toney 5'10
Lamon Brewster 6'2

Bivol is targeting Cleverly this year

He's had <10 fights and his only amateur accomplshment seems to be gold at the World Combat Games (nothing). Unless he's had an extensive amateur career that we don't know about, I'd be putting money on the former champ who has fought some of the best in his weightclass.

correct me if im wrong, though i think it's the same. theyre just getting things moving.

regular belt holders having to face interim belt holders. If there is a super belt holder he is eventually mandated to fight the regular belt holder (golovkin vs jacobs). No matter who wins, the regular belt is vacated and one leave as the super champ (along with other belts).
Though this is (or should be) rare as super belt holders are supposed to be those performing outstandingly OR those who've unified.

They take the piss when they let broner vs no name & Groves vs Chudinov to be for the super title. The stricter they are with the super title, the more prestigious they'd be viewed as a sanctioning body imo.

David Haye unironically seems like a sociopath to me.

Look at the way he talks and handles himself around people, even when he's being agreeable he's so overly loud and can't read other people's reactions properly, it's awkward and confusing sometimes. He's also incredibly quick to violence, gets wound up and always uses graphic descriptions of 'knocking people unconcious' and 'caving their head in'.

Honestly think he's got a screw loose.

A product of the changing rules. The repeated shortening of the distance over time and increased referee tolerance for holding have slowly lead to the creation of the modern superheavy. It's important to think about fighters within the context of their own era, every generation is built for its own ruleset.
