NASCAR needs to get rid of restrictor plates. Restrictor plates are antiquated now and have outlived their purpose. Artificially bunching up the field to generate pack-racing and forcing multiple "big ones" doesn't make the racing safer. So the restrictor plates aren't there for safety.

It made sense back in the good 'ol days to use them because they had horsepower but the rest of the chassis and suspension wasn't as sophisticated. But today these modern cars have plenty of grip. More grip limited than power limited. So everyone is easy easy flat around Daytona. That's why you don't see any overtaking because everyone is limited to the same top speed and they can reach it easily. You can't separate and gain any space on opponents.
It almost ruined the art of slipstreaming because it becomes all about butt buddy bump drafting and the most important car is the cucked teammate that has to finish 2nd on team orders and push the leader across. Avoiding the big one is more important to winning than drafting now.

The driving becomes all about momentum and not scrubbing off any speed. Without the restrictor plates it would be a lot harder to keep your foot down and stay at top speed. And you would see more overtaking and separation instead of line-dancing processions.

Being limited to a top speed of 193mph is bullshit. Stock cars are capable of higher speeds than that. Indycars hit 225-230 mph. 2013 F1 cars hit 218/220 mph at Monza/ Kemmel Straight (Spa). Nascar should be able to cruise around Daytona at 200+mph. At least quali lap times at about 196-198 mph compared to now.
