Yes yes well done Atlanta well done Atlanta HOWEVER, recent events must be taken into account and I have a few...last minute points to award. For Mr. Bill Belichick, for the cool use of half time adjustments while being down by such a huge deficit...10 points. Second for Mr. Julian Edelman, for the best catch the National Football League has seen since the helmet catch...7 points
and third for Mr. Tom Brady for pure drive and outstanding clutchness. I award the New England Patriots 8 points
and finally, it takes a great deal of bravery to help execute the greatest comeback in super bowl history...but a great deal more to do it while being dark skinned. I award 6 points to James White.
Assuming that my calculations are correct I believe...that a change of decoration is in order [hands lombardi trophy to Tom Brady] The New England Patriots win Super Bowl LI.

define soon because they're going nowhere until Brady and Belichick are gone. Once they're gone the AFC opens up and even then Miami has to win a playoff game which they haven't done since 2000. Gase is a good young coach so they have that going for them but you can't be a championship team with Tannehill unless you want to be a defensive centric team. At his best he's simply decent. Matt Moore is a backup and yet he looked more confident and played better.

People need to leave Atlanta alone. Good for Sanu for coming out and answering these questions. That can't be easy to do.

Atlanta played a GREAT game, people need to give them a break. No one in the Superbowl has ever manhandled Tom Brady and Belichick like that.

The Falcons only crime was going against the literal best Quarterback and best Head Coach to ever play the game. We are living in an unprecedented era for an NFL franchise, Quarterback and Coach. They put up a great fight but ultimately, as much as this board doesn't want to admit it, the Patriots are a force that has never before been seen in the NFL.

his downfall will be his age. The system is already implemented, Brady's been in it for almost 17 years he'll stick with what he knows and without Bill Brady and McDaniels will be calling the shots. The bigger question is how will the Patriots play without Belichick and Brady. Having one or the other helps because of their experience and leadership, having neither means the Patriots have to start from scratch. It's stupid to give credit to one guy and not the other. If Brady was so expendable he would of been traded by 2003. Belichick isn't a guy who keeps players solely because they're likable, Brady is obviously an important cog in Bill's machine. Only having one still means success (2008) but you're not even close to championship caliber without both of them.

Personally I'm a believer that Brady's decline is closer than pats fans think and Belichick will be on the team longer than Tom. He'll has a few good seasons with that QB (maybe it's Jimmy, maybe it's Brisett who knows) and then retires. Their championship window closes when either of them retire.

I'm the guy who wrote the post you're quoting and I am a Patriots fan. The Patriots are great, they should be celebrated. I'm saying we don't have to throw Atlanta under the bus and make their legacy into a team that choked. They were a great team and they came closer than anyone to solidly beating the Pats.
The Giant wins were by like 3 and 4 points and the Pats had every opportunity to win those games. Atlanta was up by TWENTY FIVE at one point just kicking the shit out of New England.
So if Atlanta played the Pats the best out of any Superbowl they've been in, that means this team is better than:

>The Greatest Show on Turf Rams lead by a Superbowl winning coach and Hall of Fame QB/RB/WR

>The Carolina Panthers team with that monster defense lead by a Superbowl winning coach

>The Philadelphia Eagles team with a Hall of Fame Head Coach/QB/WR/RB

>The fucking greatest defense of the modern era Seahawks, who had just won the Superbowl the previous year by BTFO'd, on the biggest stage of all, one of the five best QBs in NFL history who lead the literal best NFL offense of all time.

>And those two NY Giants teams that managed to beat the Patriots, spoil the perfect season and were lead by a legit Hall of Fame Coach and an illegitimate Hall of Fame Quarterback (probably)

This Atlanta team was great and I hope history remembers them kindly.

Look at the game as a whole. He threw 466 yards with no running game, with his greatest weapon on the sideline, overcame a 25 point deficit and embarrassing first half.

He got the shit beat out of him in that first half but never lost his focus. It's one of the greatest performances in football history.

His best purely statistical performance was that Jaguars game where he like didn't miss a pass, but that sure as shit wasn't in the Superbowl and Brady was never in any danger of losing that game.

1. I thought Vermeil coached the 01 Rams? And they had just won the Owl the year prior.
2. My bad, I mixed up Fox with Kubiak. Still, Fox took two different franchises to the Superbowl, he's a good coach.
3. McNabb will get in. Reid will get in. The bar to get into the Hall of Fame is lower in football than any other major sport.

Coughlin won two Superbowls, is the only guy who beat the greatest franchise of all time in the biggest game, and built two joke franchises into playoff teams. Eli is the one who really shouldn't get it but he will for career padding, his last name (HALL OF FAME BROTHERS DOING COMMERCIALS!) and 2 Owls. Despite NEVER being a top 5 QB in ANY year he played.

Same situation with Vereen/Faulk on prior championship teams.

When will teams learn to not call soft zones against Tom late in the game? He will pick them apart, every time. I was screaming at Quinn to get his shit together in the late 3rd/4th quarter.

It went eerily similar to SBXLIX when Seattle decided it was time for multiple 3-and-outs on offense. Pats receivers finished with nearly 200 YAC in that game. Absolutely disgusting.
>>

This is the comfiest game of all time.

>>

Falcons gave up the most YAC during the season. That was actually why so many Patriots fans thought they had a great shot at winning prior to the game, in their eyes it was about whether or not the defense could step up. They knew Brady would carve them apart

Chargers Draft here

Solomon Thomas is a better value here than any of the safeties. We need another 4-3 end, and Ingram is likely gone.

Jourdan Lewis is a steal in round 2, and is nearly a clone of Verrett. Chosen here to replace Hayward eventually and play slot this season.

Pat Elfein is a deal in the third, can play all 3 interior positions if need be. Hopefully steals a starting spot by week 1

Marcus Maye is a sleeper in a deep safety class. Can play nickel or either safety spot, start early, and all for a fourth round pick.

Also, William Likely should be picked up as a 7th rounder or UDFA
>>
>>74366634
>taking a C when they have Slauson and Tuerk already

No.
>>
>>74366634
jourdan lewis is undersized and will probably not play safety in the NFL. not worth a second rounder
>>
>>74366659

>>
>>74366624

Lewis won't play safety, he'll play slot at first then move outside when Hayward leaves.

Also he looks like Jason Verrett on tape and measurables are the same. He can play outside, like Verrett he'll prove that cover skills are more important than size.

Also, Marcus Maye in round 4 fills the safety need.

>>74366645
Elflein can play guard. Between Elflein, Tuerk, and Slauson, you have a much better interior line than last year. He can move to center or stay at guard once Slauson is gone.

Those front 3 are pretty much set unless they plan on cutting Franklin, which would be a loss in their cap.

As it stands, the best case right now is Franklin, Slauson, and Tuerk. They'd be better to target an FA LT and cut Dunlap.

They should target more defense. The OL is an issue, but I think it will be improved before the Draft.
>>
>>74366685
>undersized corner meme

Lewis isn't considered a first round product because he isn't 6' tall. Otherwise, he has the best feet and cover skills in the draft. He won't even have to start outside on the chargers, as Verrett (who is very similar and a probowl level corner) and Hayward can manage the outside.
>>
>>74366735

Franklin isn't gonna get cut, but that doesn't mean he should start. Dude just sucks, use him for depth instead and let somebody with a future try.

and faggot vikings fans act like Adrian Peterson is the second coming. he's not even top 5 all time and barely even top 10 and even thats up for debate. fuck all day. then again watching barry sanders and megatron languish on the lions was tough. though I wouldnt say it even comes close because at least megatron had stafford and that was fucking fun to watch. god damn I love me some stafford. hope the lions win the NFC North next year, that guy deserves a decent shot at the playoffs. who knows with a good draft and FA I could see them being like the 07 Giants.

meanwhile the saints were a juggernaut, the packers were coming off the owl, and the giants were still a strong team. that's to say nothing of the AFC with teams like the ravens and patriots too. people had high hopes for the eagles since they had won the division the season before, but literally only deluded morons like you thought they were going all the way.

if mccaffrey really slays the combine and puts up the 4.4 i'm expecting, his stock might rise and taking him at #15 would be ok. but rn i'd take jones or ross just because of the lack of depth of the WR class and CB being the most pressing need.

The Vikings will meet with Adrian Peterson's agent next week to discuss his future with the team.
The Vikings will also sit down with Terence Newman's agent. Newman is contemplating retirement, while Peterson still wants to play but isn't in the Vikings' budget. Peterson could be facing a relatively quiet market if the two sides part ways, which seems likely. Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reported last week that many GMs have balked at the idea of paying Peterson $5 million annually. Peterson has beaten long odds before, but that's not something teams can bank on.

I swear to god that faggot Spielman is gonna pay him 8 to 10 million for another 200 yard season and then go on to draft 3 more CB's and some horrible O line prospect out of some small school in the 6th. fuck this GM.

>>
>>74379366
Watch it again, he doesn't pin it against the ground, his hands secure the ball before hitting the ground, and the ball does not bobble when he lands. He has complete control while the ball is in the air, and maintains that control when landing.
>>
>>74379558

Although in http://operations.nfl.com/the-rules/nfl-video-rulebook/completing-a-catch/

"Item 1. Player Going to the Ground. A player is considered to be going to the ground if he does not remain upright long enough to demonstrate that he is clearly a runner. If a player goes to the ground in the act of catching a pass (with or without contact by an opponent), he must maintain control of the ball until after his initial contact with the ground, whether in the field of play or the end zone. If he loses control of the ball, and the ball touches the ground before he regains control, the pass is incomplete. If he regains control prior to the ball touching the ground, the pass is complete."

"If he regains control prior to the ball touching the ground, the pass is complete."

And that is what he did.
>>
>>74379558
As long as the ball is still in the air, it doesn't matter if the receiver is on the ground, the ball is still in play.

Jets were 2-10 going into December and won 2 of their last 4 games and ended up with the 6th overall pick, But they still got Leonard Williams a guy people didn't think would drop to 6.

IDK I think as long as your pick is in the top 10 you can get a team changing player with fair certainty if your team's scouting department does it's god damn job.

The difference between the great gms and the mediocre gms is the mediocre gms still hit on their first round picks but the great gms can find talent in the low rounds and UDFA.

Whitworth is still a top tier LT I don't care about his age if we landed him I would be stoked as

We have $14 Mil cap space right now but can save anothger $27 mil by cutting Dumervil, Pitta, Shareece Wright, Kyle Arrington and Jeremy Zuttah as expected

Obviously putting aside roughly $10 mil for our draft class that would leave us $31 mil to spend on FA's or potentially retain Rick Wagner, Brandon Williams and Kyle Jusczyk although I think Wagner and Williams are gone and Jusczyk is the only one we'll manage to resign
>>
>>74387138

Hypothetically, if the Texans sort of wanted to keep Bouye (by sort of, I mean that they would keep him for a good price but still be okay with letting him go), would placing him on a non-exclusive franchise tag be a viable option? There's been rumblings that he might receive the tag in general from the Texans, but who knows.

As I understand the non-exclusive tag, if Bouye signs an offer sheet with another team, the Texans have the right to match the offer within a limited time frame. If he doesn't sign an offer sheet, the Texans have to pay him a minimum one-year salary based on either an average from the top 5 cap hits of his position over the past five years, or 120 percent last year's salary (whichever is greater).

What intrigues me the most is, if the Texans lose him to another team, they have the right to two compensatory first-round draft picks.

I was thinking that this might be a decent flex-option to keep Bouye for another year or if that isn't possible, still get something in return for his departure.

You think so? What do you think the deal might look like? Heavy on the back end I'd imagine.

Assuming that's the route they go, and assuming they also want to bring in a free agent QB (again) like Romo or Garropolo, I wonder if the deal would leave them with enough cap space to do something like that. Plus there's also Hopkins's pay day to consider.

If I were GM, I'd go with the non-excusive tag, let him sign an offer sheet, and then offer a less appealing deal so he'd leave and the Texans would get those sweet sweet first round picks to put in their back pockets. A bit insulting to Bouye, but mayhaps it would be more beneficial for the team in the long run if said compensatory picks were used well.

tl;dr
I like to scheme.
>>
>>74390678

I actually like the idea, I just dont think Smith will do it.

They need those first rounders if they're going to be picking 20+ every year.

But the numbers are going to suck. Paying more than 10 mil gtd. will be rough, and KJO will want at least wgat Bouye gets. I do think they can get him for somewhere in the 10-13 realm, but that shits not really worth it. He's good, he's not great and he's developed talent on a really good defense. Houston should be able to just make another Bouye.

I like the pick idea, I just think they're gonna overpay Bouye (13 mil a year is too much for him)

Agreed. The only decent year I can remember Smith having in FA and the draft was 2011. And even then I believe it was Wade Smith who advocated for Watt.

So really, it seems that Rick Smith is a fraud riding off the coattails of that year's success. That and hitting on Foster as an UFA and Clowney a few years later (the latter of whom is good, but arguably wasn't worth being picked number one overall). Even with Foster, I believe it was Kubiak who really recognized his potential and coached him up in the zone-run scheme.

2. No guarantee the kick makes it in

3. No sense in not trying to move the ball closer or run a TD.
>>
>>74393692
Because that would be stupid, there was still plenty of time on the clock. The mistake was trying to pass instead of just running it. The only time you kick a field goal on anything other than 4th down is if there is very little time on the clock, or if you want to be able to recover and try again in case of a bad snap.

They should have run the ball to try and get closer as well as to burn some of the clock off, and then kicked the field goal on 4th down (if they couldn't get the 1st down). They should have kicked a field goal, but not on 1st down.
>>
>>74379790
Mike Periera is a fucking moron, that's why. The receiver had possession of the ball and had at least 3 feet on the ground, making him a runner. Immediately breaks the plane, which means it doesn't matter if the ball is pulled out half a second later.

None of this has anything to do with the super bowl catch anyways. The ambiguity around what you posted is whether or not it was a completed pass prior to the loss of possession. There is no such ambiguity in the Edelman catch. You can clearly see that the ball never touches the ground, nor does edelman pin it to the ground to assist in making the catch.
>>
>>74395746
Lots of things can happen. In addition to a miffed fg, the Patriots were desperate enough to try a jump over the middle to block it or some other trick play.

Not saying they shouldn't have kicked a fg, just not on 1st down.
>>
>>74398197
>You can clearly see that the ball never touches the ground
The nose of the football touches the ground and clearly aids Edelman in the catch
>>
>>74398578
It does not. He clearly had full control of the ball before that and the ball doesn't move an inch.
>>
>>74398578

from nfl rulebook on catches

> "If the ball touches the ground after the player secures control of it, it is a catch, provided that the player continues to maintain control."

the ball didn't bobble out of his control so touching the ground lightly doesn't matter.

>the Patriots were desperate enough to try a jump over the middle to bloc
the one time they actually did this, it was legal even though it was ruled a foul.

Playing offense is less fatiguing than playing defense. Offense is choreographed, defense is reactive.

The Pats offense was tired, but the Falcons defense was in much worse shape. Also from the fourth quarter on the Patriots had all the momentum while the Falcons were playing not to lose.
>>
>>74399741
Playing defense is more tiring. DBs have to run reactively to the WRs and can't take plays off, if a WR is slower than a DB then most of the time not much harm will happen, if a DB is slower than a WR then it can end with 6 points.

And obviously rushing the passer and trying to knock over 6'7", 330lbs O-linemen is the most tiring job in football.

Also Belichick stresses stamina workouts more than any other coach

'no'

>Cam Robinson

NO!
>>

the top 10 picks are so unpredictable in this years draft. even myles garrett may make it to 3 or 4
>>
>>74401507
garrett won't make it past 3. and jamal adams, the most well-rounded DB in a draft where most of the top 10 desperately need secondary help, is sure as shit not making it out of the top 10
>>
>>74401493
do explain why you wouldn't take Cam Robinson in the second round
>>
>>74401537
Injury history. Also, he's coming off a surgery to his shoulder and will miss the Combine.

I'd rather take Bolles.
>>
>>74401578
? are you thinking of Rueben Foster?
>>
>>74401578
bolles is also a possibility. i just hope the chargers get Forrest Lamp. I don't care if he's a guard. If you get guy people say are as good as Zack Martin, you take him and keep him for the next 10 years

I'm fine with this. Owale, Washington and REEshard are more than enough.
