Chisora could be fighting Robert Helenius next.

>"It's sounding like that's the fight that is happening next," Charles exclusively told Sky Sports. "The last encounter we won, but didn't get the decision, so it's something that Dereck needs to rectify and I believe we will. We anticipate he will be fighting in May, wherever there's a boxing ring and a referee."

Maybe that will leave Dillian Whyte in a WBC final eliminator against either Bermane Stiverne or Luis Ortiz.

Hughie can't turn down $1.2 million and a title shot over that. Tyson Fury fought in America before without Peter Fury. I just get the impression the Furys are awkward bollocks to deal with. If he doesn't sign people are going to be saying he's secretly banned for nandrolone.

The issue isn't with stubhub necessarily (though there's an argument re-selling tickets for more than you bought them for should just be made illegal) but rather with an actual sports company being sponsored by a company that makes massive profits from scalpers. Even if all the rumours about Hearn straight out giving them an allocation of tickets to resell at marked up prices are untrue, the fact that he takes their money is still a bit of a fuck you to fans.

For the 900 hundred in attendance and scores joining us on acestream, live from York Hall, It's shoooowwwtime!
>>
when is this braekhus fight starting?
>>
Lucian Bute was beating GGG up and knocked him down in their amateur bout lmao
>>
Looks pretty empty in York Hall. It has been livelier every time I've been there for untelevised cards. I had a look at the tickets for this one and they were like £60. The average show is just under £40 and more stacked than this, and then there are the WSB cards which are only £20 for five evenly matched bouts between world class amateurs
>>
>>74367165
i mean whyte beat joshua in the amateurs. some fighters evolve
>>
>>74367165
I don't think he got knocked down, unless they fought more than once (World Championships in Thailand)

He got a standing 8 count in the second round, not a knockdown.
You can see Bute landing the combination that led to the 8 count when GGG is on ropes at the start of this video.

>>
>>74367642
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XyEI9isEu_8
8:30 is where Bute starts the attack that leads to the count.

Golovkin was not down on points. He was 12 points ahead when he KO'd Bute
>>
>>74367344
The only other one I know is Roy Jones beating Tarver when they were 13 or something. Usually you only hear people talk about pros that fought as amateurs when a pro match never materialized, like Lewis beating Bowe or Pryor beating Hearns.

I'm sure there are plenty more examples but I'm not sure I'd read too much into it. Lomachenko probably would've tooled a guy like Salido in the amateurs, it's a different game.
>>
>>74367767
seemed like he was getting outlanded; what constitutes a punch in the amateurs?
>>
>be down on points in an amateur bout against Lucian Bute before brutally knocking him into a daze
>get uppercutted by a blown up welterweight in Kell Brook before cracking his orbital bone into pieces

GGG BTFO, will he EVER recover?
>>
>>74367804
>>74367804
>Amateur scoring

What a clusterfuck it was. Thank god they changed the rules.

Pic related is what constitutes a scoring blow in the amateurs.

Now. Last fight ended next one is Bute Alvarez.

BTW for those wondering, the ref wanted to stop the fight because of the cut on braidwood, then the medic in french said, ok, keep it going, if the cut is larger stop it. Then Braidwood mowed Baho down.

If the fight was stopped for the cut, the judgement would have given Baho winner.

Funny part is the ref wasn't too concerned with Baho getting beaten without defending himself and even turning away.

The difference between Joshua and Wilder is Joshua is fighting Klitschko in a heavyweight unification in his 19th fight which is almost unparalleled. Leon Spinks becoming champion in his 8th fight is the closest thing to it.

Wilder is 31 going into his 38th fight. He'll probably end up labouring for 8 or 9 rounds against Washington tonight. If he didn't have the WBC title hostage nobody would care about him.

Um, did you forget about Mike Tyson? He won his first world title at age 20, within two years of turning pro, and fully unified the division within a year

Joshua is 27 and has been pro for like four years now. That's a pretty standard progression rate, nothing to write home about

Wilder has been moved extremely slowly
>>
>>74375808
He doesn't hit as hard as AJ though and Breazeale ate quite a lot of what AJ threw at him. I think Izu will win comfortably and look good, but probably on points
>>
>>74377178

Mike Tyson had 27 fights before his title fight. Joshua fought for a title in his 16th fight

To be fair Malik tried to quit like he did in the Wilder fight but the referee wouldn't let him. If the ref had made him carry on against Wilder (and Chisora too for that matter) who knows how bad he could have made them look too

I do agree that Ortiz doesn't look good when he has to lead the action, but Joshua would come to him and his lack of head movement would put him at serious risk of being countered to death by the slicker, rangier Cuban
>>
>>74377198
That's less important to me than the amount of time since pro debut. Tyson was fighting twice a month at times during his first two years

And anyway, Joshua's only having his first real test in his 19th fight, which again is pretty standard for a vaunted up-n-comer
>>
>>74377245

Joshua is still the 5th fastest to win a world title by that measure. Dillian Whyte was a real test in his 15th fight when he was 27 and undefeated. He's better than Stiverne and someone I would put around 10th to 12th in the world right now.
>>
>>74377382
No different to Lewis taking on Gary Mason in his 15th fight two years after his debut

Whyte just lost to a borderline shot Chisora to my eyes so I don't think that highly of him
>>
>boy jones jr got knocked out

KEK
>>
Ray Mercer won a world title in his 16th fight, two years after his pro debut

Tim Witherspoon fought for a world title in his 16th fight, about four years after his pro debut

That's just off the top of my head (and confirmed by BoxRec). There are probably dozens of them. I'm not shitting on AJ's career progression, it's been good, but it's nothing unique for a highly touted prospect. In fact it's practically a rule of thumb that Olympic medalists fight for a world title at roughly the time the next Olympics roll around (which I think could actually be quicker)
>>
>>74377405

Lennox Lewis is the greatest heavyweight ever. If Joshua is in the company of Lewis and Tyson it's because he's elite and something special. Chisora gave everything in that fight and they're similar physical build so let's not rewrite history.
>>
>>74377430

Yeah but if Joshua knocks out Klitschko in his 19th fight that's where his career diverges from other failed prospects
>>
Just had a look and even Wlad won his first title in his fourth year as a pro, though he had over 30 fights including one loss at that point

I don't care about paper titles. He's facing his first former or current champion in his 19th fight three and a half years after turning pro. Standard

Fighting for the British title in his 15th bout is also nothing special. David Price won it quicker than that

AJ's fight selection has not been risky at all up to this point
>>
>>74377452

Eddie moved him at the perfect pace, that's why he's fighting the unfied title in his 19th fight. There's no point taking more fights than you have to and burning out.

If Canelo gets knocked out by Golovkin his stock is going to tank having come up short against the best twice, Joshua will go stateside and hit 2 PPV markets over taking him.
>>
>>74377538
But he hasn't been tested properly except for the Whyte fight, which he made more difficult than it should have been. If he goes out there against Wlad and shits the bed, it could be blamed on his lack of good experience to this point. He hasn't really faced a variety of styles or had to overcome much adversity. Tyson Fury's fight selection was actually much smarter in the long run, because he had rocky moments and fought through them and grew from it

Canelo's stock has already tanked since he binned his WBC belt to avoid GGG

They're different fighters though. The gamble with Joshua is that his hand speed and general athleticism will negate his weak points and he can learn on the job. I think he'll get a late KO against a 41 year old, in boxing the simplest answer is usually right.

Canelo did 600k buys against Khan 300k against Liam Smith who wasn't known to the American audience and seen as a joke fight. His standing has weakened but it will weaken more if he loses to Golovkin. Boxing is ripe for a new star.

I read that Canelo single-handedly accounted for over 90% of GBP's revenue, so I guess the Golovkin fight is an existential threat to his company. I always felt like Oscar's contribution to GBP besides being its namesake and public face was to urge his fighters to follow in his footsteps and be crowd pleasing, while Schaefer reined him in when necessary and kept things ticking over financially, but now that Schaefer is gone Oscar has to perform that role himself and is just doing an utterly ham-handed job of it when it comes to Canelo

Fast Eddie is the only one who lives in the 21st century
>>
>>74378653
I find what Frank Warren has done independently with BoxNation more impressive than what Eddie has done thanks to his dad's connections gifting an exclusive Sky contract to him

If this thing with BT Sport works out, Frank will retake his place as the king of British boxing. He already has a deeper stable of domestic fighters
>>
>>74379170

Frank's promotional boom period was when he had an exclusive contract with Sky Sports like Eddie does now. So really it's Sky who are kings because they put up the money. In the long run signing up young fighters and partnering with BT Sports might give him the last laugh but given that BT have been in the news for losing money recently it might not work out, the emerging stars will just go to Sky/Matchroom if Frank can't compete.
>>
>>74379333
Could Hearn have made BoxNation work for the last six years like Frank did though? That was a daring move and it paid off in the end, not to mention how great it has been for us boxing diehards to have a channel 100% dedicated to our sport and ensuring that almost nothing is left untelevised in the UK
>>
>>74379564

Boxnation is good for the hardcore, I'm glad we have it I enjoy the cards like last night. But from a financial point of view it's not a big success, they pissed away a lot of money on it and partnering with BT Sports was a must to keep moving forward. It's still too early to say whether that deal will pay off or the money will dry up. I know Eddie thinks Terry Flanagan as the number 3 lightweight in the world has been handled poorly because there's not enough money to get him into fights with Lomachenko and people that matter. He can save Crolla vs Flanagan until Crolla has no other options.

I also heard Eddie say before that they tried streaming a small show on matchroom fight pass and it got 150 viewers or something tiny which shows how important Sky is and why they're doing the NXTGEN series on Sky.

>I know Eddie thinks Terry Flanagan as the number 3 lightweight in the world has been handled poorly because there's not enough money to get him into fights with Lomachenko and people that matter. He can save Crolla vs Flanagan until Crolla has no other options.

The Flanagan-Crolla situation is simple, Hearn will only accept it on his terms and likewise for Frank. Neither will compromise until their man's status declines to the point that it becomes more profitable to loan him out to the other outfit rather than control the promotion themselves. Exact same situation as they have in America with PBC vs. HBO

The only opponent Terry has missed out on due to money that I know of is Linares. The Verdejo and Lomachenko fights are still on the table, though I doubt they'd take place in the UK since Arum probably has the deepest pockets in the sport still
>>
>>74380453

Hearn's outfit may be more glamorous but he doesn't know the sport like Frank does
>>
>>74381590
Frank could cope in the pre-internet age but he's been left in the dust now. Hearn's stable is better, his productions are better, his interaction with the fans is better, his understanding of internet media is light years ahead and anything Hearn does Frank will rush to copy and not do quite as well.

It's still important Frank exists, he's a good 2nd tier promoter to put on all the fights that aren't big enough for Matchroom, but that's all he is now.

You can only get away with conning the public for so long, if chicken legs was in real fights and winning people would start to pay attention. The Stiverne fight was one of the highest rated PBC shows so people do care when it's a real fight it's just that he's fought fuck all since then to get hyped about. Promoting so easy when you have actual good fighters
>>
>>74381665
Honestly, I'd say the same for Stipe Miocic. If you check out their Twitter/Instagram they're getting no more activity than your average big titted slut gets yet they're the HW campions in their respective sports.
>>
>>74381655
Frank's co-option of Cassius and Helder was savvy and has made a lot of his young fighters into known personalities that the fans can get invested in

Hearn's stable is very top heavy. If you go actually browse his full roster on his website it's really not all that great. Frank has a clear advantage when it comes to British level fighters, who are often the backbone of a good event. Hearn is trying to dip his toes into that area now that his main guys are getting too expensive for regular Saturday night shows but he's still having trouble finding a balance between building up fighters and putting on compelling match-ups. Warren's card last night shows what a master he is when it comes to that

Ray Vargas Izu Ugonoh double is the better option as coyle is trash
>>
>>74382040
It's just that Hearn takes almost all of the most skilled and most marketable British fighters at the moment so Frank is left with the B-team, but obviously he can't admit that so he hypes them up as if they were the equals to Hearn's guys

Regarding Boy Jones in particular, I don't think he was ever really pegged as a future world champion or anything, but he's a ticket seller and was still a heavy favourite last night
>>
>>74381749
That's what I said, frank is a 2nd tier promoter in every respect. He's fine at British level with the fighters hearn doesn't want but can't cut it any higher anymore. So far as the IFL thing goes that is a classic example of him just copying what Hearn is doing to try and keep up.

If you can't see Warren is a dinosaur playing catchup you're delusional.
>>
>>74378550
Promoted Ali in his first fight. He's been at the pinnacle ever since.
>>
>>74382064
Oliver McCall disagrees with you
>>
>>74382098
I don't see how his methods are any worse than Hearn's, Hearn just has more resources right now. If BT Sport can equal Sky's investment, I bet Warren will eventually unseat Hearn because I believe he knows the sport better
>>
>>74382103

Bruno beat McCall, Lewis beat Bruno. That defeat doesn't tarnish him
>>
>>74382136

Star power is what matters. The mainstream don't care if you have a more balanced card from a bigger stable of solid fighters, they just need 1-2 real stars to sell the show. On the Terry Flanagan exchange rate, Kell Brook is worth 50 Flanagans and Anthony Joshua is worth 200.

If I was a betting man (and I am a betting man) Eddie will still be number 1 in 3 years time because he'll still have Sky and AJ, Callum Smith and a few others will be at the top of their divisions and that's all he needs.
>>
>>74382136
Sky aren't forced into signing an exclusive deal with Matchroom, and they weren't forced into dropping Warren when Hatton and Calzaghe were fighting binmen all year for fake titles nobody cared about either.

They do it because of all the reasons I've said already, Hearn's ability to market to younger audiences has revitalised the entire sport, which is what Warren how has the BT deal on the back of.
>>
>>74382252
>Hearn's ability to market to younger audiences has revitalised the entire sport
besides bringing the #bantz, what's he done over there that's made it so popular?
>>
>>74382240

Ya boxing is a sport of individuals. Although I think the British market is the least casual, the reality is a big name sells.

From the outside looking in, Eddie Hearn can build a name and sell a mismatch. Warren probably puts on better fights but can't really build fighters into superstars.

Unironically the only person able to build himself into a British star without a major promoter behind him is Tyson and Eubank jr.

>>74382415

Which wouldn't have happened if he had taken the preparation seriously
>>
>>74382276
Basically he's made himself ubiquitous. He's everywhere promoting his stuff on the internet, through twitter, long form interviews on youtube and tv as well, and he encourages his fighters to do the same. His "one of the lads" manner helps a lot too since the main audience he's managed to attract are football fans who are only partially interested in boxing, and that appeals to them a lot. You compare just how much you know about his shows and stuff he has in the pipeline compared to any of the US promoters and it isn't even close really. Information about his shit is just everywhere and he promotes people talking about it.

Haye is another one who makes promoters march to the beat of his drum rather than vice versa

Interestingly, two of our brightest prospects right now, Andrew Selby and Josh Taylor, have opted for smaller promoters rather than Hearn or Warren
>>
>>74382681
but Lee Selby is with Hearn (aren't they related?)
>>
>>74382437

Tyson did fight on Sky (Klitschko) and Boxnation (Chisora, Hammer) though. The channel matters more than the promoter if you can talk for yourself and have charisma, the promoter comes into play if you're bland and need a mouth piece.
>>
>>74382761
Haymon and Hearn share Lee Selby. I get the feeling he might be on the outs with Hearn though

Andrew is with Sanigar, I think, but often seems to appear on Cyclone events too. Usually on Channel 5 (free TV)
>>
>>74382777
That's the advantage of signing with a smaller promoter who doesn't have an exclusive deal with a particular channel, you can fight anywhere

It's only a title unification match because Klitschko got his belt back after Fury went into hiding to avoid a drug suspension. Not incidentally, Fury beat Klitschko by using his long reach to frustrate and outwork him on the outside, a very clear sign that Joshua matches up well with Klitschko at this point. Wilder is protected but there are a ton of obvious parallels between their careers, they've been managed in almost the exact same way.

Spinks was an inexperienced pro getting his first tile shot as an "easy" defense for an aging Ali who was very lucky to still be champ after a contentious decision win against Norton. Not the same thing at all.
