The nickname of of AA Gent is 'Buffalo's', which originates from the late 1800's when Buffalo Bill had and his circus had their first show in Ghent.

The crowd was asked to shout "Buffalo! Buffalo!", which became a traditional thing among students. This tradition then became part of the club's supporters, effectively giving them their nickname.

Buffalo Bill's circus was mainly associated with the Sioux who partook in his show. That's why they decided to use their image as the logo of the club.
