You have to remember that all the cameras are turned way up at night so everything seems blindingly bright, it's actually not as disgustingly bright as it looks. There was probably also some way of having it not spill into the cockpit that they had as well. Daytona was actually quite dark in reality, and lemans is pitch black at night on the public road sections.

Frankly if I were to design a helmet it would be red and white with a prominent leaf. Within Canada I'd use something based on my home province, being proud of where you come from isn't a bad thing. It's also an easy option if you aren't creative.
