Probably a slightly stronger card than Hearn's York Hall card

Atmosphere will be amazing I'm sure, but the fights won't be. That undercard is a joke and McDonnell is boring as fuck and will be being even more cagey this time round since he's facing some actual power. Hoping for a Vargas stoppage to make life interesting.
>>
>>74318139
Agreed, it looks really dull

Also I hope Campbell vs. Crolla is finally made after their next fights. Campbell is already getting fairly old for a lightweight who depends heavily on speed. I still think he could still be the British #1 in that division
>>
>>74318154

I was half joking. It will probably be a decent atmosphere but it's a shitty card. Linares vs Crolla is the only decent fight night lined up at the moment, probably all the big fights will be going on box office this year.

Oscar De La Hoya thinks Canelo vs Chavez will break 1 million PPV buys

I feel the same way about Hagler vs Mugabi.
it certainly had its moments of greatness (especially in the 6th) but it's more solid boxing rather than a spicey-fest. maybe one day we'll compile a list of technical bouts.

also, it's interesting how well Mugabis chin held up against Hagler yet he got sparked out in the 1st(?) against Norris.

Caleb has one the best footwork of the division. I like this guy
>>
>Khan's prospects of Pacquiao fight getting BTFO by Bob Arum

top kek, I think Khan is hated by just about every major promoter except Golden Boy

>>74320112
I unironically like Canelo desu. Also think GGG and his camp should shoulder some of the blame for the fight not happening, they could have just accepted the flat fee for two reasons

A: The $10m (or $15m depending on who you believe) would be far more than GGG could hope to get in a fight with any other boxer with the way his profile is

B: If he wins (and I presume his team would be very confident in this?) then this opens up the door to a lucrative rematch with Canelo, where he stands to make more money as now he's in a position to demand a % fee. Additionally, the recognition he'd get from beating Canelo would be such that his popularity would skyrocket, and in turn mean that more boxers are willing to get in the ring with Golovkin seeing as they'd now be better compensated for being knocked out.
>>
>>74320112
I like Canelo and any figther with good chin and decent power. Latino heritage I guess
>>
>>74320112
I like him, probably in my top 5 current fighters, but the post fight interviews, vacating the wbc, and just stuff outside of the ring makes me think he is a huge diva. Just look at the deal for Chavez, he made a half pound change to the fight just to say he's the one calling the shots
>>
>>74320112
I like Canelo a lot, both sides are equally to blame for that fight not happening yet, just that GGG has managed to get away with no blame
>>
>>74320329

Offering Golovkin a flat fee is bullshit. I still think it will get done for September though. If Golovkin gets the belt off Saunders then Canelo will run out of places to go

Aye that's cool I thought people really hated on him because of the fight not happening, must be the mexicans only.

What about Rigo?

>>74320349

Canelo won't fight Saunders cause the WBO requires a 80-75% split for the champion, and no way Golden Boy settles for that.
>>
>>74320112
He has a pretty aesthetic style, but he is a cunt and a cherry picker and a constant beneficiary of crooked judging so I'd take some pleasure from seeing Golovkin leave him in a heap on the floor
>>
>>74320208
It wasnt a real offer, surely. it was to take the pressure off of themselves.

Media outlets & jewtube channels cant wait to report ANY news on this fight.

Whatever they claimed they had offered golovkin 'shows' intent and now some of the blame falls on team ggg

Lastly, golovkin deserves some sort of percentage as it would be canelo's biggest fight possibly numbers wise & definitely legacy wise.

Canelo needs Golovkin, not the other way around. When push came to shove he gave up his belt.

They're in the same ball park. Cotto/Margarito was super dramatic because of the way Margarito endured a world of shit for 6 rounds to turn it around like that. Cotto was beating the living shit out of him the first half of the fight. I really think that fight took more out of Margarito than any other. He took a reet good hiding.

>>74320794
Not the fight itself, rather the style of fight: both fighters conceding and covering ring real estate, trading with good speed and power, throwing with decent technique and in combinations, and so on.

Cotto vs Margacheato was fought with Cotto entirely on the back foot, explicitly because he was trying to avoid Margarito and fight using his intelligence and technical ability.

Don't get me wrong, it was a good fight, but a fight just being *good*, or technical, or a display of adept boxing ability isn't necessarily what the list was created for.

No but the IBF are bitches for insisting on the mandatories (Pulev in this case). That's just one scenario, there's loads of scenarios that could happen like:

- The IBF could allow a bigger unification fight to take priority

- Wilder or his promoter Lou DiBella decide to duck AJ until 2018 because they don't want to lose. They fight Stiverne, Ortiz or Dillian Whyte instead.

- AJ wants to fight Haye because it's the biggest money fight available and Haye is calling him out

- AJ fulfils his mandatory shot either against Ortiz who is semi associated with matchroom (WBA) or against Pulev (IBF)

- Parker beats Hughie and fights AJ in a unification fight for WBA, IBF, WBO
>>
>>74320926
Wilder probably gets paid in deep-fried chicken wings.
>>
>>74320906
True. Would most likely build on his reputation as the champ/ a couple of defences whilst hyping the unification fight then go for the big payday. Even if he did lose he's only 25 now which is very young for a HW boxer
>>
>>74320965
Yep. They'd still love him over there if he loses to AJ, but having multiple loses would probably make it harder to market him and there's really no reason to take a risky fight like that right away while he's still in his honeymoon period.
>>
>>74320946

Another scenario: Klitschko knocks out a gassed Anthony Joshua in the 11th round and thoroughly disrupts all plans

He could always have a mega fight for the coveted WBC Eurasia Pacific Boxing Council heavyweight title against Lucas Browne

Besides I reckon he's got a solid chance of chinning AJ, and if he was the first one to do it he'd be an instant superstar. I give him like a 30% chance of winning that fight, which has got to be worth a roll of the dice considering the prize

It was floyd fighting another man with a nation behind him, just like vs delahoya which had more buys but less grossing.

anyway, im wrong in saying GGGvCANELO could surpass FLOYDvCANELO didnt realise it was 2.2 million buys.

though like i said earlier, floyd wasnt the b side.

Vs GGG, with canelo being the A side coupled with it being for his legacy, would make it higher than any other fight where he was the main attraction imo.

It's tough when you dont have a nation of fans who support you blindly but i still think the ggg fight surpasses the 900k buys vs cotto and the ~650k buys vs khan.

Though maybe, catching a beat down and ruining your already cemented top-tier legacy & current fame/stature isnt the right move business wise

It's probably the only thing I remember Maskaev for, outside of the Tua loss that is. I'm pretty sure it even earned runner-up in the Ring KO of the Year award for 1999. First place went to Derrick Jefferson over Maurice Harris, which funnily enough was on the undercard of Maskaev vs Rahman.

Honestly, I have no idea. Both Mundine and Green were very big names (relative) in Australia for a period of time, Mundine especially so. I've never heard of anyone speak about Browne but then again I don't really talk to anyone about boxing IRL.

If Jacobs is going to win it's going to be by an early KO when he still has all his strength and some aggression, by round 3 he'll be being pummelled by the jab, get scared and it'll be a slow decline until he gets knocked out. I completely believe a round 1-3 KO is possible though, that sort of thing happens quite often.

>Haye should fight Parker or Wilder

I think "should" should be taken out of the equation for any big name boxing match. It's just simply not going to happen how it really should play out. Promoters refusing to work together, cable tv contracts, outrageous money demands, etc. demolish any chance of fights that should be made. This is nothing new but it's just frustrating when you know a fighter can beat top guys but it just won't be happening anytime soon.
>>
>>74335138
We have world beaters in Danny Green, Jeff Horn and Lucas Browne. Besides football, what other sports are popular in Spain? I'm pretty sure you do pretty well in kickboxing with David Calvo, Cesar Cordoba, Javier Hernandez, Abraham Roqueni, Lorenzo Javier Jorge, Moises Baute, etc.

As a fan of both mma and boxing, I've always had an affinity towards boxing and have always felt events just felt bigger, better, and more exciting. The best of mma is nowhere near the best of boxing.

Overall, I think younger sports fans all gravitate toward football and basketball because there's just so much more content out there and more money thrown to getting fans eyeballs on it whereas both mma and boxing fail in advertising outside of people who are going out of their way to see it.

I don't disagree. With his chin and 40 year old legs I just can't see Wlad posing a threat anymore, which is why I view this as nothing but a confidence builder (and money grab) for AJ.

Breeazeale(sp?) was bigger than Joshua and AJ shit on him (expected result). Klitschko is more or less the same size as Joshua (maybe has longer arm length) but is truly at the end of his career while AJ has, if nothing else, youth and virility on his side.
>>
>>74340208

As time goes on it's looking less and less likely. Still gonna stick some cash on Wlad as he'll be massively undervalued by the bookies.
>>
>>74340334
>>74340335
I thought Wlad was bigger than he is, probably mixed up his height with Vitali.

Even though I want wlad to win as it'd be a pretty amazing thing to see I'm inclined to go with AJ, but maybe jab jab clinch can work once more.
>>
tfw 90s foreman would steamroll through the current heavyweight division
>>
>>74340375
I feel if it's going to be anything, it'll be a hard right down the pipe that catches AJ flush. He was certainly staggered in the Whyte fight and maybe feel his chin is pretty suspect.

Here's hoping for one last hurrah before riding off into the sunset after that dismal performance against Fury.
>>
>>74340407

I was rewatching the AJ Whyte fight to see where he got hurt again.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3QqaDIgQhw

At 915 he takes a short hook then some follow up rights. AJ is definitely hurtable, its just landing a good shot in all that pressure.

If Wlad was younger than he was I wouldn't see a problem with him being able to keep him away with his jab, especially since AJ stands with a very stiff posture. As long as Klitschko could keep him at bay Joshua wouldn't be able to unload his combinations.

He is lucky to still be alive after sustaining such an injury; truly a testament to his toughness and mental fortitude.
>>
>>74340520
Wtf is up with that gap between his big toe?
>>
>>74340490

Wlad's current old man style only works on shorter, smaller guys. he throws a punch into a clinch and puts his weight on them. Low volume as hell hoping for a big punch. It didn't work vs Fury because obviously is bigger. I don't think it'll work vs AJ because he throws a decent amount of punches (for a hw) and is of comparable size.
>>
>>74340159
Klits just jonesing for one last payday. He definitely knows he's at the end of career, look at how insecure he was in the lead up to his last fight. Nothing against Joshua but I won't rate his win against Wlad the same amount as Fury's.
>>
>>74340547
Well, it looks like he has small toes but I wouldn' tbe suprised if continuously pivoting in boxing boots would also cause that.

>>74340558
Most of AJs danger comes from his quick and powerful combination punching, which mostly consists of looping hooks and uppercuts thrown at a close range. Wlad could, with the body of his younger self, fend him off with his powerful jab with great success because:
A, Joshua doesn't really throw straights with great affect or consistency
B, He has no head movement to speak of.
Klitschko wouldn't be able to tire him out with his usual holding and leaning, but would still be able to tie him up enough to nullify his punching, but mostly out of necessitity rather than tactical advantage.
>>
>>74340651
that should read as "effect" rather than "affect" but cbf editing it.

He's definitely got hands, but I don't think he'd be as confident nor effective with trading crosses with someone who could jab his face off, especially if that someone is as heavy handed as Wlad.
>>
>>74340558
Yeah...he seemed to react to every single feint Fury showed him. Clearly not comfortable fighting a guy his size although he really hasn't ever seemed totally comfortable in the ring.

I see Joshua being wary of Klitschko's power and pecking his way to a tedious decision, but I'd love to see him KO Wlad and spark some casual interest.
>>
>>74340735
Haye has talked himself into fights in the past, talking trash is a very good way of doing it.
>>
>>74340724
the old adage "everyone at heavyweight can punch" comes to mind.
When people talk about having a good chin they don't meant a persons ability to not get hit, it's purely how well can you take getting hit. And I promise you if you measured who hit the hardest in the heavweight division the list wouldn't match the best hw boxers list that closely.
>>
>>74340735
I'm not saying it couldn't have happened, but David Haye is a notorious knob-gobbler.
>>
>>74340791
Exactly, Vitali got hit with bombs and handled it well, Wlad got hit and completely lost his footing multiple times.

I think the general consensus is either one of the klitschkos or foreman, but you might be right.
>>
>>74340724
Anyone can get laid out with a lucky shot. At heavyweight the chances are just higher since they're throwing around so much weight
>>
>>74340769

Oliver McCall and Ray Mercer were almost impossible to put down during their prime years. Then you have guys like Larry Holmes who could be hurt but had incredible recovery time. The big men hit harder but there's still huge variance in punch resistance like in any other division.
>>
Is there any actual concrete evidence that The ratio between Punching power and punch resistance in HW is any different from other weightclasses? They hit harder no shit but they're also bigger with thicker bones and larger heads. If anything HW's high KO % is more a product of their shit stamina than anything else.
>>
>>74340913
I just don't understand if you're mad cause i said AJ's chin was suspect, cause Wlad's chin sure as fuck is.

>>
>>74341003

>>
>>74340985

> If anything HW's high KO % is more a product of their shit stamina than anything else

I tend to agree with this. Lots of people shit on Wlad for being glass chinned but a lot his early KOs were from being exhausted.
>>
>>74341079
His fight against Corrie Sanders was in the second round, and he got knocked down and hurt in the first, and that was the second of his 3.

It did only happen 3 times though, but he is 41.
>>
>>74341129

The Corrie Sanders fight he just got hit perfectly on the chin every single left. Versus Brewster he could barely stand from being gassed. Wlad came into his own and reigned once he started pacing himself by throwing low volume and punching into the clinch.
>>
>>74341241
You're abosulutely right.
>>
>>74341241

Lol, good bait. Wlad started fighting worse and worse opps after Brewster. His career is a joke. Needing to hold against guys 6 inches shorter and 50 pounds lighter than you makes you a fucking clown, no matter how you slice it.
>>
>>74341750
Peters, Pulev, Haye, and Povektin all beat that version of Brewster.

Good try though you uninformed shitlord.
>>
>>74341750

Please tell me where I'm "baiting" or approved of his style after the Brewster fight? I said that's how he reigned over the division, not that he was the most electrifying fighter of our generation. He didn't lose until the snoozer with Fury. Whether you like it or not, he was highly effective against smaller, shorter fighters who couldn't get through the jab without getting stuck in the clinch.

Inoue is arguably the best at 115. He is a treat to look at when he works and the only bad things I can say about him is that his defense is simply good (compared to his excellent offense) and he has hand problems.
Him, Gonzalez and Cuadras all have the same promoter so we will get Inoue vs Cuadras or Inoue vs Choc at some point. I think we will end up with Inoue vs Cuadras because if Choc looks as gassed in the Rungvisai fight (assuming it goes late) as he did against Cuadras I would favor Carlos in the rematch.

If Inoue vs Choc happens tomorrow I would favor Inoue, Choc is small for 115 imo. I think Cuadras out of anyone in 115 has the best chance of beating Naoya.

Who knows though, apparently Roman is focusing on defense for the Rungvisai fight and on March 18 we might end up watching the best version of Chocolatito we have ever seen.

>If Inoue vs Choc happens tomorrow I would favor Inoue
Inoue doesn't really keep a tight guard and is prone to taking breaks--Gonzales, on the other hand, keeps his hands glued to his forehead at all times and is a constant pressure fighter. He's also been tested numerous times while Naoya doesn't really have the resume that would lead me to believe that he could be as competetive with Chocolatito as some people seem to think.
>>
>>74344889
Tbh this a much more entertaining fight than Horn fight.
>>
>>74345751
Inoue so far while not tested at the highest level or against KO artists has shown that he can handle pressure and dish out his own against good fighters (Kono, Hernandez) and has an iron chin.
I agree Inoue's guard is not the very good but I see Gonzalez coming forward trying to make it a gritty, pressure boxing match and Inoue taking the role of the counter puncher fighting on the back foot which he has done before, and after weathering an early storm, working RG's body like Cuadras and slowing down the fight to a pace he is more accustomed with or hurting him like Viloria.

Resume wise they are not even close, it's true, but regardless of resume when I look at Inoue as a fighter I see something special and I think his skills although displayed against generally inferior opposition are comparable to Choc's.

When I say I favor Naoya I don't mean "13 and 0, EZ work", I mean a highly competitive close fight that Inoue might fight well enough to get the better of. I love Choc and his style and maybe I am looking to much into the Cuadras fight but I think 115 might be a bit much for him to hang at the top.

Obviously he is free to shut me up by beating Rungvisai and Cuadras (decisively) in the rematch, after all I do want him to beat Inoue and it's certainly not impossible.

David Haye is trying to get under Wlad's skin. He's mates with AJ they've attended lots of events together and he wants AJ to win for the pay day.

Haye is pulling people's strings like a puppet master at the moment, with the Bellew fight he knows his job is to act the arrogant shit head like Mayweather did so casuals buy it because they want to see him get knocked out. And he knows for the Joshua fight he has to carry on pretending to be the pantomime villain.
>>
>>74344922

Khan would rather get 30% against Pacquiao and lose than 60% against Brook than lose. Pacquiao is a high profile fight and a legend in the sport so much like Canelo he's expected to lose. The stakes are too high for him against Brook because he can't bare to lose that fight.

Them Fury boys ain't right in the head.
>>
>>74347812

Does make me wonder why he hasn't signed yet, the purse split is standard so shouldn't be any excuses with money. There was the issue that Peter Fury might not be allowed into New Zealand as he has criminal convictions and there's a drug allegation hanging over Hughie that's just gone quiet. If it doesn't happen now it would be a shame as it's a good match up. I hope if Parker does a voluntary shot he fights someone half decent like Dillian Whyte and doesn't take a complete joke fight.

My dad made the bet using my account. He's convinced Tony will win.

I don't see how he does let alone in the 1st round

>“I’m edging towards the end of this crazy game,” he told the Fight Disciples podcast. “Hopefully this could be my last year in the game –– more likely in the next 12 months

Think it's fair to say this is for the money only. Maybe he makes it a competitive fight for a few rounds, he has single shot power, but as soon as Haye lands that big right he'll be on his arse
>>
>>74346080
Pac's not gonna knock Khan out. Khan gets knocked out by getting caught with one big shot. Pac's an accumulation knockout artist. At best it will probably be Algieri tier
>>
>>74347875
Makes me think the Fury cousins might really be banned right now
>>
>>74348442

Something very strange going on. Be surprised if they're bottling it. Chances of it happening now are low if the WBO have had to step in but find out tomorrow.
>>
>>74348408

Maybe against guys like Margarito or something. Khan is there to be knocked out by Pac for sure.

Here are 3 more.

Kevin Kelley vs Troy Dorsey https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crUEhvVQxr0

Jung-Koo Chang vs Hideyuki Ohashi II https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xK2JnXlhgP8

Paul Banke vs Daniel Zaragoza II https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3UNgXaO3Qo

You might want the check the other two Zaragoza-Banke fights but I think #2 is the best one.
>>
>>74348979

Pacquiao hasn't knocked anyone out in 8 years, no hope for Khan if he gets KO'd now. Think it'll be Pacquiao by 2 or 3 points.
>>
>>74349090

Directly proportional to fighting jmw's. Khan will will get beat soundly either way. But he's just in it for the money so i don't think he cares.
>>
On vacation in Mexico. Why are Mayans such casuals? They only know Canelo, Chavez and Chavez jr (they pretend to smoke a joint when they talk about jr)

Is the consensus here that Kahn is shot? I think the dude has one more fight before he gets exposed as being completely done

I asked bout this fight a while ago but someone shot it down. I'll give the rest a look tomorrow because I've watched enough tonight.
>>
What fighters would you say have glass jaws?
>>
>>74349305
I don't think he's shot, he just has very particular strengths and weaknesses and most of his rivals and potentially rivals have sussed him out by now

I'd like to see him face Broner, who is in a similar situation. Would be a really interesting (and marketable) crossroads fight

>>
>>74349332
No one was really hurt in the fight and the commentators did not sound very excited. Maybe that's why.
>>
>>74349415
Price and him should fight desu
>>
>>74349439

Thomas Williams Jr. He's been down 6 times in his last 2 fights.
>>
>>74349401
I think Broner is the most overrated boxer today, especially at 147. I don't think he'd even come close to anyone in the top 10 of 147
>>
>>74349570
Stevenson and Browne are big hitters though, and if I recall correctly he took a few without his legs going wobbly
>>
>>74349589

Yeah Broner can't beat any of the top 10, he's too small really and already lost to Porter. He's just above British level fighters like Bradley Skeete.

Broner is still a draw though, his fight on showtime got about 848,000 viewers and outdrew Frampton vs Santa Cruz and DeGale vs Jack. Khan would be a good match up for him although he might want to cash out against Pacquiao first incase he loses.

Any chance of Washington pulling off the upset?
>>
>>74350165
a puncher's chance or basically zero. It's not an awful fun and they guy is not a total no-hoper, but it would be a huge upset if he won and chances of that happening are low.
>>
>>74350165

Maybe a 5% chance Wilder goes swinging like a giraffe on ice skates and gets chinned on the counter
>>
>>74350211
not an awful fight*

dont know what went on there.
>>
>>74350226

Wilder leaves himself wide open when he punches.

Also, his footwork is terrible.
>>
>>74350253

Yeah. That's why he'd lose to AJ because whilst AJ can be stiff his boxing fundamentals are better. Wilder is going to get exposed as soon as he fights someone closer to his size with some skill. He has got a bit better about using the jab and he has power and size so that's enough against this level of competition.
