Pelicans get Boogie, my favorite player. I'm fucking devastated when I hear the news and sulk the whole night. But I wake up this morning and think about how much NO actually gave up. Get this...

So obviously the kings are not making the playoffs. Pelicans might, but if they do they won't get very far. Ok enough about this random talk let me get to my main point.

Ok so a nice starting lineup. Jrue compliments both of their games perfectly. But then we get to the bench:

C: Omer Asik/Alexis Ajinca

The bench. Horrendous. Can't keep up with most benches in the NBA , mostly due to how slow Pondexter would be at SG. Possibly the most unathletic bench in the league too, besides Frazier and Jones. People keep saying on TV that the Pelicans are just magically gonna become a deep playoff contender, but it's just not true. Let's be real, you have to have 2 superstars and an allstar to win a championship. Look at most championship teams (Bulls: MJ Scottie Rodman. Old School Lelkers: West, Chamberlain, Goodrich. Heat: Bron, Wade, Bosh) the list goes on. People are being unrealistic about this shit. To me, the Pels traded away a possible future in Buddy Hield, Tyreke Evans (contract expires after this year) and Galloway (decent backup, only 24 years old). Also even if the pick we got goes anywhere from 10-15 in the draft, there is major talent this year. At that position, you could get someone like Adebayo, Ntilikina, hell even Giles or Isaac could fall that low. Plus our pick could go top 5 if we tank. Asik and Ajinca are never playing again. They've barely played the last 3 months and we've just been running AD and Donatas at C. If Qpon comes back then really their biggest issues are: is Jrue Holiday going to be able to improve by next season after his first fully healthy season (only missed significant games due to his pregnant wife having brain cancer this year)? And can they get another good wing shooter who can play defense? With 2 elite players and 1 good-to-great player in the starting lineup you don't have to have another all-star on the wings, just someone who's more of a starter than Moore and Hill.

If they can get another good PG then Jrue can also function as a serviceable SG because he's a decent off ball player and good defender. One of Jrue's biggest upsides is he's pretty versatile and good at a lot of things, just not really elite at anything.

Pondexter is a real problem though if that injury has shot his career. They've really needed someone who can play the 2 and 3 and Qpon honestly looked like that guy for awhile before he got hurt. Dude was shooting 43% from fucking 3 before he went down, and 46% overall on almost entirely jump shots. AND he was playing good defense. Him coming back fully able could solve a lot of problems, it's just everyone doesn't think anything of him since he's been dead for a year.

Jrue's honestly really close to an all-star level PG. The position is super loaded so he kind of falls to the wayside but he's quite talented. If you've got 2 superstars and a borderline all-star then that's a damn good start.

They need to find a way to get rid of Asik, though. Maybe Hill, too. Those are "The cap's going up, right?" contracts that got rekt by the KD reaction cap smoothing implementation.

It's amazing what a garbage PG can put up on New Orleans. I remember when people thought Vasquez was way outplaying his contract here in AD's first year then he fucking fell off immediately. I feel like Frazier's early season stuff was the same.

Dude's fine to play 10-15 minutes a game as a backup PG, but he's not the sign of a good bench player. He's the bottom of the bin back up PG.

The thing about backup PGs is it's usually better when they can score. Frazier needs to be a starter because a lot of his pluses disappear with no talent around him. He's not super athletic but he's an ok passer and shooter so he needs guys who can get some buckets off his medium playmaking.
