This year isn't the same. They're clearly in a rough patch, but everyone is so fucking cramped together on the standings. You'd have to lose every single game for next month just to give up.

They really shouldn't even be in this spot. It's so unfathomable to see the quality from the rookies this year. 100 years in the league and this is something so fresh.

I don't think they're making the playoffs and I didn't think they would at any point in the year because of how the 2 Florida teams were bound to figure it out enough. But they were hot the last little while and everyone else cooled off. The Sabres, Wings, Flyers, Bruins, Panthers, Bolts, Canes. None of them were getting the jolt the Leafs had the last little bit. It was only a matter of time until the Leafs had to cool off and someone caught up. The Sabres, Panthers and Isles caught up. Will they stay hot too? I don't. I don't see any reason to believe the Sabres won't struggle again at one point. The Isles are getting that "coaching change" jump and could play beyond what they're expected. The Panthers are touch and go, because they were completely battered by offensive injuries and were a much better team than what we were watching.

Throw in the fact that this schedule is a fucking disaster that the Leafs goalie has to deal with while also learning to be a starter, and you're bound to have periods of struggles.

I refuse to believe that even if they miss the playoffs, that fans will still call the season successful. Even though the rest of the salty canadian team fans will say otherwise.

I still don't know how they are gonna upgrade their defense. I don't think they have anyone of that caliber in the system and are unlikely to draft them this year.

Gonna have to trade for it. All the defensmen on the trade block don't look like an upgrade for the leafs. Most of the agents available will be side grades.
