I almost cried tears of joy at that final. I watched with my dad who was born in Germany (his whole side of the family mostly still lives there). He's a big time soccer guy and used to coach. So by association and my heritage, the German team became my defacto favorite team along with the USA team. After the heartbreaks of 2002, 2006, 2008, 2010, and 2012 for Germany, getting that massive goal in the final and celebrating with dad was incredible.

Season 07-09 broke all my dreams, hopes and optimism regardring the football.

Since i was born i was a Chelsea fan. (don't really know why my first impression of football alongside playing in local club at a really young age was Chelsea and Crespo, and they being on of the rare licenced clubs in PES).

So as a kid obssesed with the game i started supporting them endlessly.

And than the 2008 CL final happened. I was counting down the days till the game, and was 13 at the time. Watching the game with my father and brother and they were teasing me the whole game because my father was always contrary to my opinion and my brother was a fag in love with Ronaldo.
Chelsea was supposed to win but Terry choked and the amount of abuse i got from them too i went to my room crying.

Exactly a month later Croatia played Turkey, and it still kills me inside to even talk about that.

Next season started without that optimism i always had in september and pure happines and exictement to watch football the whole year again.

Then the semi-final game came with Chelsea-Barcelona. (my father is a huge Barca fan, and goes to Camp Nou every season atleast once, and was going to matches ocasionally in the 80s.)
Then the Ovrebo game happened, and i was crushed, literally the angriest i have ever been in my life. Nothing compared to the anger i felt that day, and my father just adding oil to the fire with what were desu world class bants.

Those two seasons made me not expect anything out of football, and never to go into any game as a otimpist about the result. Which kinda isn't that bad after all.

After the this euro game vs. Portugal i felt nothing, and i was cool with it. (offcourse growing up had something to do with it also) but those two season made me a sports pessimist.

I've only ever cried about my own failures, never someone else's.

I'm willfully ignoring times when I was much younger. And even then, it wasn't over other peoples' sports.

I don't cry because my favorite teams lose. I get incredibly bummed. Sometimes, it hurts worse and it bums me out to a massive degree.

For example, the 2011 World Series. Don't get me started on "one strike away."

There were the 2007 NFL playoffs and this past season's NFL playoffs when the Cowboys blew it in the Divisional round despite earning the top seed in the NFC.

Every time Arsenal plays a big opponent, I'm often left in disappointment when they drop points. Especially later on in the season. And when they play in the Champions League, I just flat expect a rough draw and an early exit. Except when they got Monaco and still had a first-round KO exit.
