I wanted to try and make a stat that measured truly raw power better than slugging or ISO, seeing as those are both weighted down by a player's ability to actually make contact with the ball, as opposed to a measure of his power ONLY when he hits the ball. thus I came up with ISS, or isolated slugging, which is total bases over balls in play (TB/(AB - SO - BB)).

as you can see from this preliminary spreadsheet, even though arenado slugged and overall hit better than freddy freeman, freeman's considerably higher ISS implies to me that he is able to hit the ball harder on average, which I think is supported by the fact that he has a comparable amount of total bases while striking out a whole lot more. altuve's a great hitter and has a high slugging average, but his ISS is relatively low even with a whole ton of total bases due to his non-strikeout at bats ending up as singles a large amount of the time.

get your >a fucking leafs out quick and give me a statistical analysis as to why this is retarded. it feels pretty okay but I'm sure I'm overlooking some fundamental dynamics that make it a shit stat

There will be Alex Smith tier players playing important positions in the ASG this year just because nobody will want their players to get hurt in a stunt game where nothing matters.

The point of the /asg/ was to display the best talent of both leagues against each other, in an all out battle where the players actually tried to win or care because there was a reason to.
