We have motorsports general threads put out on thurs/fridays that list most of the motorsports times for the weekend.

On race day, there is usually a /turnleft/ thread posted for NASCAR/ARCA races about an hour before the start of any given race.

Just look for them, and you'll find them.

You've GOT to watch the ARCA race at Daytona this weekend, as it is among the best ARCA races of the year, due to the shear carnage that usually takes place. Those niggers are doing close to maximum F1 speeds, but they don't have nearly ANY of the F1 downforce packages, and are essentially driving rolling bricks. It's good shit.

See you on race day.

At the very least Sunday is forecast to be dry past the morning when the showery front clears off so there will be racing. Saturday evening is just a crapshoot. I think they will just about get the ARCA race in or will have to call it near the end (Or ARCA will ARCA and only call it after it rains on the back stretch and someone wipes out leading to ARCA Brakes) but the Clash likely isn't going to happen on Saturday night.

Almost everywhere else, drives pay for the privilege of driving cars. Even F1 teams have pay drivers. Drivers in Nascar can make more money than many F1 drivers (I think Juan Pablo Montoya said that, or some other filthy foreigner)

Junior's even admitted in pre-season interviews that he's got the racing bug but he's fighting that he hasn't got much time left behind the wheel at the top level. I wouldn't be surprised if he's already decided to drop out of cup and is finishing out the season to stay in good graces with Hendrick but is probably going to retire and then hand over to Bowman.

Now I wouldn't be surprised if he said he's not going to stop racing because he's always talked about following his dad's plan of dropping down series instead because racing was in his blood. Dale Sr. wanted to just stop racing cup. Drop down to do a few Busch series and truck races while running his new team on the Sunday and then eventually just retire from main competition but occassionally go out with a late model for local track racing whenever he needed to get it out of his system or do the occasional endurance race. And I wouldn't be surprised if Junior took the same path in retiring from Cup this season but still running a few Xfinity and Truck races for his team.
>>
>>74268940

I think deep down he's gotta know that he has so much going for him to end up like Dave Mirra. Over 300 Million net worth, a hot wife, go kart track on his property, a race team he owns, and much more.

I think he wants to give it one more go at the cup level and probably get into maybe a handful of races in Cup/NW/Trucks each year.
>>
>>74268940

Dale Sr. had a HUGE hard-on for sportscar racing and if he hadn't died, he probably would've raced at Le Mans for Team Corvette for a while.

Junior is probably going into this season with the mindset of this year being his last big shot at a Cup title and if anything bad happens, he's walking away straight up and letting Bowman take over.

Honestly, the writing is on the wall for Nascar too. It's meme fest with muh caution clocks and muh segments.

If they don't fix the schedule (more short tracks and road coruses) nobody will care in the near future.

I love Nascar but I'd be lying if I am not more excited for the 12 hours of sebring, Le Man's, Spa 12 Hour, Spa 24, etc.. And most of all V8 Supercars. The Rolex 24 and Bathurst 12 hour were both fantastic.

Bitch has the fastest car in qualifying and lands the pole position during the 13' Daytona 500, which happens to be the first race of the first full time female driver in NASCAR since I don't know when, and after that race she can't land a top 10 start for the rest of the season. Hmmmmm....

Makes you wonder if the "conspiracy" people are right and NASCAR does indeed rig their shit from time to time.
>>
>>74268982
>The Rolex 24 and Bathurst 12 hour were both fantastic.

This is true. I'm looking forward to Lemans again this year, too.

Last season was a big improvement over 15' due in large part to the reduction in down force, and they're continuing that trend this year.

I honestly think the race segments will enhance the racing due to the fact that the drivers will be working their asses off to get those extra points, as they're ALL needed to earn a championship. Not only are we going to see the usual suspects racing for the lead, but now those teams that have been hovering around the P10 position will be busting their balls more than they already do as well.

I think it's going to be a pretty good year.
>>
>>74268982

Most drivers even said the problem with the schedule is that it's week to week and only one break for two and they should be only going once a year to some locations. Some even said they would compromise in having less dates on the regular season before the chase playoffs going week to week. But France gonna France. We have 36 now. A 20 race schedule in the regular season spread across a few weeks and a 10 date shootout for the chase would be better and make it interesting where there are returns like Daytona and Charlotte by running the road courses instead

I'm not mad at the stage stuff. It might be interesting to see how there's more at stake and how hard drivers are willing to push. That's interesting but the season is still the biggest problem.

How many years have you tards been saying this shit? Yes NASREF rigs outcomes to an extent with their inconsistent as a liberal caution usage, but they'renot getting involved with the cars. You really think they'd go to all that trouble to rig a pole for Danica that was determined by fractions of a second? Don't you think they would have won her a race or Junior a championship? A Hendrick or ECR engine wins the pole every fucking year at Daytona

I know Charlotte would be the most likely roval to be added to the schedule due to it's location and the local fanbase, but even with the new updates I think it is probably one of the worst road course configurations possible.

There's no room and it's got an uninspiring layout with a few hairpin loops tacked on to make it look slightly more entertaining. Those will be great for the club racing it's designed for but cup cars would look slow and boring as fuck on it.

All of the superspeedways have better infield courses or could expand them with additional room to spare. And then there's Homestead, which probably has the perfect infield layout (no running on the banking, which IMO may look embarrassing to NASCAR since the cars would look slow compared to oval running) but that'll never happen since they probably couldn't pull a big enough crowd. In an ideal world we'd go to Homestead for the road course in week 2 or 3 and then come back for the end of the season.

A manufacturer must partner with a chassis constructor. Because of packaging and other reasons, engines and bodywork are limited to P2 supplier. I'm guessing ORECA is the leading constructor because they're not partnered with any factory efforts yet.

>>74271595
The road course layout with the banking is probably a better fit for NASCAR.

they changed the rules for inspection this year. seems like a positive.
>The updates also detail the schematics of a new pre-race inspection protocol, which requires that vehicles must proceed through all four inspection stations, regardless of whether issues are found in any stage in the process. Fixes must now be made in each team's garage stall, rather than off to the side of any given station, and then vehicles must proceed through all four inspection sites again.

they changed the system of penalties from P1-P6 (i think??) to a system where harsh penalties are graded L1-L2. and they plan on giving out more penalties during the weekend/before/during the race for those infractions than during the week, not that the mid-week penalties will be going away.
http://www.nascar.com/en_us/news-media/articles/2017/2/16/nascar-announces-new-deterrence-penalty-policy.html

>Under the updated deterrence model, there is now the possibility that pre-race infractions could result in penalties being handed down during the event. In other words, minor infractions found during race weekend will result in an immediate penalty instead of carrying over into the next event.
>Among the potential penalties at the track: loss of hard cards, loss of practice time, loss of pit stall selection, tail of the field, a green flag pass-through and a green flag stop-and-go.

NASCAR IS TRYING TO PUSH THE "ROUSH RESURGENCE" NARRATIVE!!! RIGGED!!!!!!!!
>>
>>74274179
>Eight-time Daytona winner Bobby Gerhart will start 21st. Gerhart won six of eight ARCA races at Daytona between 2005 and 2012, but he’s winless in the series the last four years. And he wasn’t pleased with the qualifying format, which grouped drivers in six-car packs based on a random draw. With drafting being such an issue at Daytona, getting paired with slow cars meant no shot at landing the pole or a spot near the front.

<“Probably the dumbest thing I’ve seen happen right there in 30 years,” Gerhart said. “I think I’d be better served just going to the casino and taking my chances there. Seriously… It’s just ridiculous. You’ve got the best car in the group and you can’t even get a shot at the pole. I think we’re entitled to that.”

>The 58-year-old Gerhart, making his 30th ARCA start at Daytona, is trying to become the oldest superspeedway winner in stock car history.

>“If it doesn’t change, I’ll be gone because this ain’t no fun,” Gerhart said. “I want to try to control what I do, and I think when you spend this kind of money and take this serious, a guy needs to be in his own position of control.”

DiBurrito has his old ride and team this season, though. So at least something good came out of it.
>>
>>74269169

All I'm saying is that she's the only driver to land a pole position that then later failed to achieve a top 10 qualifying position the rest of the season, and that just seems odd.

Drivers with the skill and equipment to make pole ALWAYS have the skill and equipment to land in the top 10, if not top 5, for qualifying sometime throughout the season. Patrick went from 1st, down to the 30's, 40's, 20's, and never got higher than 11th after her pole position at Daytona. This supports the idea that NASCAR allowed her to run a different plate on her car for qualifying, and probably the race, for that individual race...which she fucked up regardless, because she's not a good racer.

I know. What I'm asking is, is can two manufacturers use one chassis supplier? Reason being, there's four of the sortaspec P2s to start from and three are in use in DPi already (via Cadi, Nissan, Mazda) so if a P2 tub can't have two non-Gibsons in it by IMSA rule than Honda-Penske is the fourth of four possible manufacturers.

Actual on track racing has improved over the last 5 years. Granted, the format manufacturers the drama so the excitement isn't as authentic.

Instead of more complications in the points system, a simplification was desperately needed. These new new changes will only turn away even more hardcore dying boomers.

But Culturally that may not be a bad thing... The boomers allowed Nascar sponsers to go from Cigarettes and Beer to Cell Phones and Insurance.... From Risk and great Reward to Safety and Political Correctness.... From the good ol' boy good times and blue collar drivers to inclusiveness and diversity outreach programs.

I am hopeful Monster Energy will bring back a certain edginess to the sport that has been severely lacking it since the Winston Era. Aligning themselves with Trump was wise as well, the pendulum is swinging and soon Negro fatigue will grasp the majority of true 'Muricans and send them running back to the warm white blanket of Nascar.

Much like the fall of the West, the fall of Nascar will do well to separate the true racers and race fans from muh corporate interests who only care about the shekels.

>I think people just don't want to watch cars drive in circles 100 times.

Racing is an acquired taste, and regardless of whether it's on an oval, or on a road course, most people these days just don't have the patience for it anymore.

One of the things I like the most about NASCAR races is the fact that they're long as fuck, compared to most others, and it really tests the consistency of the driver, their equipment, and their team.

Regardless, understanding, and actually appreciating, what goes on in any kind of racing isn't for everybody, and like horse racing, the crowd will undoubtedly keep getting smaller over time.

>So it could be a cultural shift away from motor sport

Sadly I think there's some truth to this considering that Millenials were all taught that cars were evil because muh emissions and that racing was a waste of muh resources

10/10

The long green flag runs were exciting for me too, watching someone who is .10/sec faster a lap slowly and methodically cut down the interval to next guy ahead was beautiful to watch. Given you have all the telemetry available, TV coverage is always focused on the lead when most of ghe good battles are mid-pack.

More in-car viewing options and customizable viewing expirences would be great for the sport. Imagine a VR app that puts you in the cockpit, watching the entire race real-time from the drivers POV or any camera of the viewers choice.

Of course, this would be bad for muh TV, so start a subscription based service. Cutting the cord would also boost attendance at the races.

Forget the average sports ball pleb ( I fucking HATE when Nascar tries to use "playoffs" or "super bowl of racing" bullshit), focus on serving the base. Like Trump, don't bend and betray your loyalists just to show artificial growth that benefits no one but muh corporate interests.

yes and no

if you built the car for short runs, than you want to be up front, if you built it for longer runs and fewer stops to adjust it (trackbar, wedge, etc etc) then you want to start in back

the short-run guys are going to go balls out in the opening laps, the longer run guys are going to take it easy until say 90 to go

>Yes it does.

Nah....

Those are two valid points, but start position really isn't much of a game changer in this series, and especially on the longer tracks.

Race victories ran from P1 to P24 last year, and Jimmie Johnson won from P37 in 15'. We're constantly seeing the good drivers go a lap down, get back on the lead lap, and score top 10 finishes, and sometimes even a victory.

I think starting up front is more important on the short tracks and the road courses, but at the 1.5 milers and above, the drivers don't gain much of an advantage.

That might change this year with the new bonus system, though.

WASTE OF FUCKING TIME.

WASTE OF MONEY ON CRASHED CARS.

>>
>>74315960

Teams want the Clash and the Duels because it gives them a chance to figure out setups in a live race situation without points on the line and Drivers go hard because they need to push the limits and get Data for the rest of the season. Krut said it in his post-crash interview that he was annoyed that they didn't get the data they wanted and the car got wrecked but that was the clash.

Plus if you crash out during either, you have tons of time for to tweak your main car before the duels and 500 and teams are allowed use a different car in the clash compared to the one they have to use for Qualifying, the duels and the feature race. Most teams entered in the clash bring three.

It had already gone corporate, he stopped posting straight-up rumors and just regurgitated press releases

>and now reddit is going the same direction

Paint schemes hasn't been wiped yet
http://www.espn.com/jayski/cup/schemes/2017/story/_/id/18640109/2017-nascar-cup-series-paint-schemes
But I'm surprised there haven't been copyright complaints since most of the pictures are just Lionel renders that Jayski puts his watermark on.

Some of the stuff from the WSJ sounds pretty damning.

The idea that France sold his stake and only goes to half the races (at which he still stays out of the public eye), especially. It's no wonder that he is apparently completely out of touch with reality.
