The UFC has valued star power over talent, copied mandrama, aired filler cards, and put on a stale show with shitty production values for many years now. But they also put on a lot of entertaining fights and made great matchups and WME doesn't appear to have any idea how to walk that tightrope.

The UFC holds everyone hostage at the moment and its killing the sport because its been basically WWE for the last couple of years. For the old fans there is basically the Khabib/Ferguson fight and Bisping for the memes. No division is really that interesting although Garbrandt actually looked really good and to be fair to the little fucker McMeem looked really good in the Alvarez fight, fixed a lot of the holes in his game so he might actually turn into something that's not just a joke.

It would just be 2 Years of UFC Champions capturing every belt in every organization and holding the UFC roster line up for the title fights. Literally every fighter in UFC the Top 5 fighter can walk into same division and take the belts with ease from the WSOF, Bellator, Rizin, OneFC counterpart champions and make it look easy.

It would prove the dominance of the UFC roster once and for all but literally log jam every division unless they apoint an interim champion to act as reigning champion and defend while the real champion goes around unifying belts like on a foreign campaign.

The reason boxing unification are cooler is because no single promotion holds the sport boxing under such hold where all the best fighters are in the same company. But even then the promotions pick and choose fights give up belts and pick up vacant belts so they can rake money off their marketable champion rather then see him fight someone legit. Hence the reason Deontay Wilder, AJ, and the other 2 HW champions haven't fought and won't ever unify belts and each of fought bums

Sanctioning bodies aren't the answer. One will always lead to multiple given enough time. You could hand the rankings over to one of the commissions but you'd still end up with favoritism towards the promotion with the deepest pockets.

What really needs to happen IMO is that the fighters need to go to court and challenge the UFC on their contract stipulations. I've worked as an independent contractor before and I can tell you without hesitation that a lot of the shit in their contracts is not legal. Then they won't be tied to single promotions and the bidding can start. All the money will incentivize the best matchups regardless of promotion and managers will start taking notice. The explosion of talent in the NFL in the decade following free agency was no coincidence, all the top agents have their own training facilities and hire former pros to get guys ready for the big leagues because they know there's big money down the road if they invest in young guys in college. Meanwhile MMA prospects are working side jobs and can't even train full-time. MMA is really in a sad state right now.

Oh no I agree with the Ali act for fighters getting more money but honestly it would have reverse effect then intended. The reason it sort of works in boxing is cause every promotion is about equal in money,fighter quality, brand naming and funds.

Changing the number of rounds isn't going to fix bad decisions. I think they want to set up a Silva-Bisping rematch but I hope I'm wrong. Sometimes I wonder if five 3-minute rounds would be better for the short fights but some say that it wouldn't leave enough time for grappling. Dunno. But I agree with your view of those fights.

Middleweight has some horrible issues with matchmaking so I get where you're coming from about the ranking system, but who's going to do it? If a sanctioning body pops up and Jacare becomes champ, Bisping will just get a different belt and hide out in England forever. StrikeForce, WEC, and PrideFC all had great fighters. But very few standout names exist outside even back then the UFC. But on average most of the dudes on those rosters got sent off who were ranked 5 or 6 in those promotions. And in SF they had ex UFC fighters lining up the roster like Barnett, Nick Diaz, Robbie Lawler, Werdum, and several more but that's about it.
