Third for
>tfw no gf
4th for Ricci wdc
5th for Ricky WDC
I almost feel bad for Mick, it's too much pressure trying to live up to Schumacher. So if he's not good immediately or shows improvement overnight everyone will call him shit. If it wasn't for his last name no one would hype him as much. He should pull a Racer-X and race under an alias.
7th for Nando
8th for McClaren.
9th for /lightweight/
I'm only 3 beers in, and slightly buzzed already
http://motorsports.nbcsports.com/2017/02/11/patrick-head-idea-that-new-f1-regulations-will-close-up-field-nonsense/
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/128064
They tried low downforce regulations to help improve overtaking and it didn't work. so now F1 increases the downforce and people still complain about overtaking.
>>74204128
it's a shame that so many fans think that there needs to be constant overtaking for races to be exciting, this line of thinking that says there is some great need for overtaking is how we end up with gimmicks like DRS. Fan Boost when?
>>74204138
Gentlemen, a short view back to the past. Thirty years ago, refueling and unlimited engines were permitted. Now drivers can get a penalty that can last to the end of the season if they burn through engines and are unable to play with fuels.
Less overtaking or more?

>hurr durr let's take grid penalties strategically at Spa so Lewis can have fresh engines later on for title fight
>fresh engine blows up anyway
>no other mercedes supplied team ran over their allotment only Lewis
>swap pit crew members around between garages between Nico and Lewis for no reason before the season fueling conspiracy theories
More proof that Toto is the shittiest team principal ever. Lewis should have started on the front row at Spa like usual. Lewis had a working relationship with all of his engineers and then for no reason the team forces the crew members to swap between drivers. So Lewis has to work with new people. And now there's one side of the garage where the mechanics have won 3 times and the mechanics on the other side of the garage have lost 3 times. So the losing side feels extra shitty. Good way to boost team morale. Toto Wolff is fucking shit and only riding the coattails of what Ross Brawn built.
They framed Ross Brawn for that illegal in-season tire test with Pirelli 2013 and he was forced to step down and took the fall for the team. But obviously Silverstone fiasco that year proved that Pirelli desperately needed the test anyway and it's because of that tire test that Mercedes actually won races that season.

What is a GAZOO and why do Toyota name their racing teams after it?
>>74205586
“The very origin is a Japanese word, ‘gazo’, which means ‘picture’ or ‘image’,” he told me.
“Almost 20 years ago our president wanted to change the structure of our company and he introduced what at the time was a very new online system using images of cars for the reselling of used cars.
“They called this internet site gazoo.com, using the English spelling of the word.”
How the word came to be the name of the motorsport and tuning division is less easy to explain, but it is essentially an extrapolation of Toyota’s engineers having a picture in their minds of “a lot of garages filled with individual and unique cars”, like the online used car website. For Toyota, ‘gazoo’ came to mean ‘garage’.
“So we combined those two images,” Saga said. “And the ultimate goal of the various garages, each with a different focus, is to create better cars.”

Because they started watching in 2015 or just simply didn't watch/don't remember 2014. And because they actually really love Hamilton and fail to comprehend that Hamilton actually lost a championship to Rosberg. Sure there was the ONE engine failure, but if Hamilton hadn't choked Australia, Bahrain, Japan etc starts and finished where he should have, or if he hadn't choked the entire Baku weekend, he would have easily made up the points deficit that he lost by. Rosberg only finished 3rd in that Malaysian race anyway when he actually SHOULD and would have finished 1st and killed Hamilton's championship hopes for good if Vettel hadn't hit Rosberg in T1, so in a way Hamilton was actually lucky with the timing of his failure as well.
People have such short memories anyway. Bottas was hyped as fuck when he was driving well in 2014 and early 2015, then the Williams started to suck and the 2016 Williams was essentially a lost cause and a driver that was being hyped to go to Ferrari to replace Kimi a year earlier was now "underperforming and underwhelming" to the point that people wanted some arrogant rookie who had like 2 decent moments the entire season in a shitbox, and almost got outqualified by Haryanto and certainly got outshined by Ocon, to somehow get a "deserving" promotion to a guaranteed winner of a team.
Bottas will at the very least deliver what Rosberg did, maybe even more because he is not as emotionally "fragile". This is basically what Merc want, especially with such short notice. Bottas won't chimp out, he won't choke hard either, he will be consistent and drive the car to places where it should be, which is what he's done his entire career so far. I truly don't get why he isn't a good candidate for Merc, even if he isn't the most "exciting" one.
But of course yea maybe Merc will just hire Alonso because he'll jjust out perform the car xDDDD

First of all, as a huge fan of everything you and your team have accomplished, let me offer to you my most sincere condolences for this terrible tragedy. That someone could do such a thing, and to such a hero, leaves me simply confounded. I cannot fathom what pettiness might drive a person to such a despicable act, and I fear that I would lose my sanity were I to try.
It pained me very deeply to hear the news, as I imagine it must have pained many of us - but I know that must be nothing compared to what you and your team must be feeling today. To that end, let me say this: take all the time you need. Of course your community will be anxiously awaiting any news you might have as to exactly what occurred, what it means, and what the consequences for the stream might be. However, we (and I do feel I speak for the community here) understand completely the situation you are in, and will wait patiently for as long as it takes until you are ready to communicate with us. We supported you before, we support you now, and we will support you always.
Finally, let me state what, I hope, will be painfully obvious to all of you: if there is anything - anything at all - that I or anyone else in this community can do to help you in this darkest hour, you simply MUST tell us. For you, you who have walked through fire to bring us a service we had no right to ask of you, I feel confident in saying we would march to the gates of Hell and back if it could provide you some small modicum of assistance.
We are a community. We work together, we play together, we watch together. Victories are sweetened and defeats softened because we did them together. You never abandoned us, so don't think for one second that any of us would ever abandon you. We stand with you, now and always, and we will gladly help you up when you stumble.
With love, respect, admiration, and hope, I remain

Neither.
Both.
BoP rules don't eliminate engineering advantages or disadvantages. Just look at GT racing, and you can clearly see how some cars do better at some tracks than others, but they are all still competitive.
BoP rules just streamline the capabilities of engineering and make it so that the race car driver still has to do his part. That's not the case in F1, though.
>>74210161
BoP doesn't really fix what they are trying to fix without making it a 100% spec series (inb4 triggered spec series BSA rages)
If you want to watch a 100% spec series watch one of the existing ones.

there are a bunch of major stakeholders with their own agendas. your first point is from Max Mosley and FOTA, both of whom have been btfo. then the second rules fuckery is cos of the strategy group, which may not be long for this world.
I'll wait to see what based Brawn gets up to, things could get reasonable again.
feel like I've gotta say, in general I'm not much of a slippery slope scaremonger-er but any BoP in F1 at this point will lead to a total cuckening of the series. at least with the current strategy group governance style.

I'm gonna steal a point of discussion from a Swedish F1 podcast.
The complete silence around Pascal Wehrlein points toward his injury being serious. If Wehrlein can't participate in Barcelona, will he even drive in Melbourne? Who will replace him? Nasr would be the obvious choice, and Kubica the fan favourite. However, Mercedes is paying for the seat, they would probably want to put one of their drivers in there. Not sure which Mercedes drivers have a super license though.
But, is an car an athlete?
>>74215877
It's just sad how a stupid race could potentially end his career right there.

>>74215877
>"silence"
More like just no news on it because no one cares. Has there even been any demands of people wanting to know how Wehrlein is doing or something?
Even if he misses practice I doubt it is a career-threatening injury, they probably just want to have him ready for the season so they don't have to replace him mid-season.
I doubt they would struggle finding a testing replacement for him though. It could be anyone from Giovinazzi (Ferrari) to Nasr (ex-Sauber) to some Merc rookies getting their first days of testing like Wehrlein and Ocon did with FI (George Russell for example). Sauber is still pretty much Ericsson's team, so I would guess he gets more say in things anyway, plus Sauber is moving to Honda power for 2018, hence the 2016 Ferrari PU's, as 2017 is likely just a fully transistional year for them.

Nothing posted on his twitter/instagram for 3+ weeks. The podcast talked about other drivers where they got hurt and promptly went underground.
>Even if he misses practice I doubt it is a career-threatening injury,
I think I wasn't clear about what I meant. Let's say he can't practice in Barcelona, but recovers in time for the Australian GP. Will Sauber let a driver with no experience with the new cars drive that weekend, or do they keep the Barcelona test driver for a few races while Pascal get's his practice in on Fridays?

>Will Sauber let a driver with no experience with the new cars drive that weekend, or do they keep the Barcelona test driver for a few races while Pascal get's his practice in on Fridays?
Professional drivers aren't that much different from normal drivers, you can jump into a car and start driving it without problems for the first time; obv you won't know the "secrets" of the car and how to behave to make it perform in the better way right in the first Km. Same goes with a professional F1 driver, yes the car is different from last year's but it's not like he have to re-learn how to drive.

>>74216597
>Or maybe you are scared that Princess will BTFO the Son of Eric, Olof?
No, I'm expecting that to happen Giuseppe. I am scared of Stroll beating Massa and Palmer not getting BTFO by Hulk. With Gutierrez gone, that would mean Ericsson is the undisputed shitter of F1.
>>74216720
I hope. I'd like to see Mick driving for the team who made great his father
>>74216501
I don't think it's that much of an issue. Sure the cars are going to be faster this year but he is a professional racing driver. He's probably already done a bunch of Merc simulator work so he knows what sort of speeds to be expecting. Of course if he misses testing he probably won't be at 100% and be able to extract everything from the car. But even then he has 3 FPs and quali to get a feel for the car. His potential lack of experience would also be further masked by the fact that the cars and tires are new for everyone, so drivers might find the cars performing in unexpected ways in actual race conditions etc
I know its 2016 and a Manor, but Ocon jumped in that car at Spa with no prior testing and did well enough. The only scenario where Pascal isn't injured that Sauber would decide to not have him take part in Melbourne is if they get someone experienced to do testing (like say Nasr) and they are going for the meme strategy of scoring all their points in the first races of the season and then switching over to 2018.
As much as I like Giovinazzi, putting him in the Sauber in Melbourne (assuming he had done their tests) and expecting him to score valuable points is probably more of a gamble than running Wehrlein without any real testing experience, so this would only really work if they managed to get someone actually experienced who hasn't been gone from F1 for a long time.
>>74216781
So Renault?
>>74216712
Nothing is certain, it is simply impossible to tell at this stage and would be nothing short of a waste of time to further speculate on things we don't know any more about.
>>74216774
I won't judge Stroll yet because even if he is a moneybabby its not fair to say he's shit before he's driven at all in F1. I do expect him to be at least on par with Massa by the end of the season though, which really should be his minimum target considering what Massa's 2016 season was.
That being said, the worst drivers on the grid currently probably are:
Grosjean > Kvyat > Massa > Wehrlein > Magnussen > Ericsson > Palmer
I think maybe the only two who don't really deserve being in F1 are the last two, and even Ericsson is pretty good occasionally. Palmer seems like a nice guy but honeslty just seems like he's out of his league and is just in F1 because his dad wants or because he wants to say he has been an F1 driver.
Point being is that the field is very very strong and even the "bad" drivers are still extremely accomplished.

Who says the year like that?
>>74217550
I've said it before but I think he might be the most naturally talented F1 driver in the last 20 years or more. I mean that is literally what he counted on at all times, for his entire career, that he is naturally quick. It doesn't seem like he particularly worked on it, or looked to improve, or attempt to be more consistent, just drove as fast as he could always and occasionally it resulted in an amazing performance. The downside of this is that he was inconsistent as fuck and also just lazy. Probably could have won a championship or two had he actually put in the effort to mature as a driver like most of his successful peers did.
Even his ROC performance shows that he is just quite simply immediately and naturally excellent at making cars go fast.

>end up 5th and 10th
to be fair the AI isn't the savviest of foes. I had it on 3x fast forward to spare myself the anxiety but it looked like I only got 5th cos 6th place pitted on the last lap. there are also serious problems with being lapped, 90% of the time one of your drivers gets a blue flag the car behind yours gets a massive advantage under blue flags and makes a cheeky pass.

YES. very BIG YES. Kimi wins australia.
Inspired by the bingo, lets get a prediction going for testing day 1, just to see if the new cars will deliver on expectations of being a lot faster this year, even if its testing.
01:24.939 by Seb was the fastest time on day 1 of testing last year in Barcelona.
You know how it works. Post prediction and a picture, I will post again once day 1 ends and we will see who is the closest.

>>74226858
No, it's just not true though. Hamilton is above average - good tier.
While Messi and Ronaldo probably go down as a couple of the best of all time. Sainz is basically saying Hamilton and Alonso are Senna and Schumi.

>what is the offseason
no car unveilings yet. and the driver's market during the offseason wasn't that interesting outside of replacing Rosberg. Bottas was the favorite once Wehrlein got passed up, maybe an outside shot for Perez. And you know Mercedes weren't going to pair Lewis with Alonso. and not much racing to watch either; Bathurst 12H, Daytona 24H, and WRC started, that's about it. the racing season isn't in full swing yet.
Williams basically traded Bottas for Paddy Lowe, they'll do anything to keep their power unit suppliers happy.

Stroll to crash during testing lmao
So has there been any news on the Bianchi case? SkyF1 said that Bianchi's family wanted to sue the FIA & F1 because of the report that basically blamed Jules for the crash. Bianchi's dad feels it was the team's fault I guess and Jules shouldn't be blamed in the report. And that was the reason F1 has the VSC now to stop drivers from speeding under yellow flags. So apparently the Bianchi family was preparing to sue but I haven't heard anything about it since.

1:20.718 by Vettel. Depends on how much sandbagging Ferrari do in testing. Let's see if these newfangled fancy 2017 cars can beat Nico's 2013 pole lap.

Vettel did so much hypocritical shit at the back end of 2016.
He was halfway losing his mind in that Ferrari.
>>74228706
They should take away that inside kerb by the castle.
Then we'll really see who has the biggest balls.
>>74228721
I really want a lap 1 crash in the castle part creating just a massive pile up crash, would be just chaotic to watch. Preferably it being Stroll or Amx causing it.
>>74228741
They need to move the start to later in the day, so the sun gets in Lewis' eyes, and he piles up the entire field.
