Australian here. Does it ever happen that the punter has to make a tackle? Say the ball is caught and run all the way to the punters location. If so are they ever trained to tackle?

Shouldn't you just boot it as close to the endzone as possible without making it go past it? That isn't really hard if you get to hold the ball when you kick it.
