You take a goal ratio, which is the closest to a comparative measure (and you should use minutes played instead of games, btw, but whatever), but then multiply that variable by the SUM OF POINTS of matches played, when one player has many more than the other?

Also, Messi being a playmaker for at least the last three years (not that you would know, judging by the clueless "Messi has clearly dropped off since 2012" reference) has kept almost the exact same goal ratio as a poacher.

Also, Messi spent almost all of 2013 playing injured and/or playing half matches (which you count as "played matches") or not playing. Pic related.

A generally way below average team that's top of an absolute shit league will multiply by more than the 2nd, 3rd, etc of La Liga, PL, BundesLiga, Serie A... and then things like this happen:

And of course, always keeping in mind that Messi is the one that actually makes his team play and constantly feeds the other scorers on the team. Unlike CR, a player that HEAVILY depends on the team's production. But that's the kind of shit you'll realize by watching both play, not reading sheets with numbers.

If you're gonna throw aspects like playstyle into the mix in reference to goals scored, it goes both ways. Messi has been a playmaker in the last season or 2, but ronaldo didn't score in his first 25 CL games because he was a traditonal winger/less experienced.
