HELLO AND WELCOME BACK TO THE MLS EXPANSION WATCH, GOOD TO HAVE YOU WITH US

WHEN WE LEFT OFF, WE HAD NINE CONFIRMED TEAMS IN THE RUNNING, BUT NASHVILLE HAS RECENTLY BEEN VARIFIED, BRINGING THE COUNT TO TEN

WITH A LITTLE UNDER SIX HOURS LEFT (SINCE MLS HEADQUARTERS ARE LOCATED IN NEW YORK CITY, UNDER EASTERN STANDARD TIME) TEAMS HAVE MAYBE ONE SPELLCHECK LEFT TO DO BEFORE SENDING, OR RISK LOSING THEIR EXPANSION CHANCES UNTIL A LATER DATE

BUT THE MAIN QUESTION ON EVERYBODY'S MIND RIGHT NOW IS "WHERE IS SACRAMENTO?"

>>
>>73978085
I agree.

the southern cities have a lot of untapped potential. I imagine that MLS will eventually grow to around 34-36 teams within the next 20 years. maybe even more.

Mainly because the stadiums they want aren't fuck huge entertainment centers that cost a huge chunk of tax dollars.

I think MLS could have an advantage there, when a city loses its team due to arena bullshit, MLS can swoop in and take the market.
>>
>>73978139
Gooch is a work horse and a great upcoming CAM. He's sadly been injured so he's barely coming back to the Sunderland lineup but Moyes trusts him enough to have given him a few subs - keep in mind Sunderland are in a relegation battle.

Haji Wright is also another one of the better USA prospects coming along. He's slowly breaking into the Schalke team at a young age. If he pans out like Pulisic, we will have a great strikeforce partnership between Wood and Wright
>>
>>73978127
I'm at a weird place where as an SKC fan, I both want and do not want STL to get a team. Want for the rivalry and just to plain out continue my hate for that side of the state. But also don't want because I want to continue putting kids on that side in the SKC academy.

I really hope they pick already established teams to move up to MLS, instead of just making a dew one and leaving the other to die. So I hope Sacramento doesn't get picked and they learn their lesson for next time.

My new hope is FC Cincinnati and San Diego's team or Saint Louis FC (plus Tampa Bay Rowdies if Beckham's team gets cancelled)

Yes, the Republic brand is huge, they are one of the top teams in the USL in terms of attendance.

this seems like a glaring fuck up.

I agree with you, if the Sac bid won't stick with the established team, the expansion slots should go to teams like the Rowdies, or Cincy, or even Indy 11.

San Diego seems like a no brainer now, as well.

okay, we have one meme team
what >>73981805 says at the beginning of his post is what i'm referring to as a meme team
>>
>>73981538
probably because MLS does things differently and is still pretty young. There's No pro/rel, the league is heavily centralized, there's a college draft, wacky team names like the Sounders and Whitecaps, etc. a lot of Euros and Euroboos think that the sport should only be governed one way. that there is a set in stone formula to running teams, creating a league, and building success.

MLS has basically said "fuck that, we are doing this our way." and built the league up American style. and for the most part, its worked. There are still plenty of problems though. mainly developing/retaining good American plays.

Also, the MLS fanbase can be cringy as fuck sometimes, which is an easy target for ire.

>Every now and then Jay Heaps wakes up and texts Robert Kraft “Why don’t you love me like you love Tom Brady?”

>Robert Kraft, getting up from his mattress made of macaroni noodles cooked in the tears of Patriots fans after their recent Super Bowl failure takes a long look at his phone before texting back: “Who is this, and why do you have my number?”

>Jay Heaps punches the wall in frustration. Through the tears caused by his frustration, he furiously texts back: “It’s Jay! Jay Heaps! You own the New England Revolution! A soccer team! You know, Taylor Twellman, the best player to ever play for this team? That New England Revolution!” and he slams his phone down on the IKEA brand coffee table he bought with his meagerly 50k salary. He gets up and slams his head against the wall, sobbing.

>After a few minutes, his phone vibrates. Jay looks at it with a deathly glare, questioning whether or not he should pick it up. After a minute of deliberating it with himself, he picks up the phone and reads the following message: “I have a soccer team?”

>He screams in frustration, throwing his phone against the wall, waking the neighbors in the surrounding apartments. “I FUCKING HATE YOU, ROBERT KRAFT! I FUCKING HATE YOU” he yells as he succumbs to the impending emotional breakdown, punching his couch through his tears.

RIP Sac bid
>>
>>73986837

http://www.sacbee.com/sports/mls/article130037494.html
>Nagle submitted the bid to MLS under the name of Sac Soccer & Entertainment Holdings, a corporation he controls, instead of Republic FC. In an interview late Tuesday, Nagle told The Sacramento Bee that Sac Soccer doesn’t control the rights to the Republic FC brand and is negotiating with team founder Warren Smith to obtain the brand if the bid for MLS status is successful. The two sides have not agreed on a price.

Sounds like a power move by the lead investor to put pressure on the owners to sell.
>welp if you want Sacramento Republic FC to be in MLS you better give the team to me because the MLS bid is under my holding company
>>
>>73980648
Unless MLB moves a team (they won't) they'll never come to Charlotte.
>>
>>73986864
>they won't

The A's and Rays will be relocated. it's only a matter of time. Both have unsustainable stadium situations and both teams have cities that can't afford to build a new, partially public funded stadium. Plus, the Rays have had the worst attendance in the league for 5-6 years straight.

it's not a matter of if, it's when. Although, I don't think either team will move to the Carolina's. the Rays will probably go to Montreal and the A'swill probably move to Vegas, or another California city.

>>73986959
Valid. But yeah I don't see any MLB team in Charlotte any time soon. Maybe 30-40 years from now if a team needs a move considering Charlotte will probably be bigger than a few of the current MLB markets.
>>
>>73987229
Nagle is the lead investor for the Sacramento MLS team and entered the bid under the name of a corporation that he is the owner of.

All the details aren't out yet but it seems like he invested in Sacramento Republic and used the existing fanbase to get more investors like Whitman and York as well as a stadium deal so he could get an MLS team and leave the Republic in the dust.

If they get the expansion get ready for Sacramento United FC

This Nagle guy is losing all of his leverage now that this power struggle is public knowledge.

You don't toy with the hearts of sports fans, because they will boycott your product. This has bad PR written all over it.

If I was Garber, I would deny Sac's bid if they don't get this sorted out immediately. The last thing MLS needs is a fan dividing controversy about an expansion team.
>>
>>73991513
Especially in a "smaller" city/market like Sacramento, where they may not be able to conjure up thousands of brand new supporters to cover for the loss of the disgruntled ones
>>
>>73991513
If you Garber, you would want whatever makes the most money for the league, which would be the team with the best plan. Up until recently, this was obviously Sacramento, but now it looks like all the non-casual fans are boycotting if they truly were left out of the plan. I guess the only question is if there's enough casual fans to make it work.

Also, if you were Garber, you wouldn't be browsing a Macanese political discussion image board

I dont like yurotrolls but if the team doesnt put in a quality performance against Jamaica then I will be inclined to lean towards a europe heavy group with the regular starters like Brooks, Johnson, Cameron, Pulisic and maybe some newcomers in Hyndman and Haji Wright.

Feilhaber and Nagbe were the only standouts. Lleget was pedestrian. Sacha, pontius and the CBs were OK i guess. Everyone else was shit
>>
>>73994927
Feilhaber was also shit for the few minutes he was on. The man has clearly declined and is already pushing it at 32 with weak legs. He should be a sub at most.

Ideally he shouldnt even be in the team because he's such an obnoxious locker room cancer.
>>
>>73994896
Problem is no one has been very good for the national team not even the Yuros
>>
>>73994973
Pulisic, Fabian Johnson, Wood have been good. Cameron has been good when healthy.

Brooks had a good Copa and then regressed. Chandler shouldn't be anywhere near the NT ever again.
>>
>>73994973
Brooks had a good Copa America. He makes mistakes but he's 23 years old and there's rarely any young CB under 30 that is top class and consistent.

Johnson is okay as an LB and better on the wing. He's declined this season along with gladbach though

Chandler is shit for us but somehow decent for Frankfurt. He never worked under Klinsmann but I think Arena can make him work well due to his rigid simple system

Pulisic has been outstanding and doing as best as a scrawny 18 year old top talent can do

Yedlin has been on and off but he has become one of the best wing backs in the Championship so he will be ready to start soon.

I think Hyndman should definitely get a look as well as Wright since Hyndman has been doing good so far with his new club and Haji is the better of our attack prospects right now.
>>
>>73995002
I don't think Fabian has been that good for the national team
Maybe above replacement but his production isn't really close to what it was last cycle
>>
>>73994947
>Feilhaber was also shit for the few minutes he was on

He was more effective than Sacha at generating offense with the few minutes he had. only nagbe did more offensively. You're completely right though, he's a has been and more of a liability at this point in the cycle
>>
>>73995011
Wright is still not a senior level player though

Hyndman will probably get called up but he won't solve the problems in midfield
>>
>>73995027
The problems in the midfield stem from lack of everything - from willingness to win back posession to facilitating the ball to the front line etc - and that's partly because of the players involved. Only Nagbe has shown to be starter material so far. Everyone else from Bradley to even Kljestan - who I previously rated - have shown too many glaring weaknesses.

In my opinion, why bother trying to make a system work with the same players who never shown the propensity to play well in the first place? Bradley has been the focal point of the midfield for way too long despite being mediocre ever since the world cup in Brazil. I would rather put in younger players like Gooch and Hyndman who have an upside along with two pacey quality wingers in Nagbe and Pulisic

But I know thats not going to happen soon because Arena is a stubborn retard who sticks too long with a certain group of players as seen in 2006 and in some seasons with LA.
>>
>>73981442
Interesting shit happening in Houston
>>
>>73995076
Well first of all someone's gotta play defense
Gooch and Hyndman are more attackers than anything
>>
>>73993975
Feilhaber will end up making a nice play leading up to a US goal vs Jamaica, and everyone will be all KLINSMANN-FAGS BTFO, MLS DA BESS and then he'll shit the bed at a crucial moment in one of the March qualifiers

Just you watch

Please dont post lineups anymore, you have no concept of where these players are in their careers nor positions.

Your midfield would get destroyed. CCV is not a leftback and couldnt handle a League 2 side in the FA Cup. He still has a ways to go. Haji Wright is with Schalke U-19's which is below MLS level.

Hey MLSbros, CONCACAF Champions League it's almost here, how are your teams playing?
Will we get another Mex vs USA final? Those where good and not another regular season match
>>
>>74010983
>how are your teams playing
they're not, preseason is just beginning

>will it be another MEX v USA final

yes, CONCACAF wants as much mehico vs usa games as it can get
>>
>>74010983
Well the season hasn't started yet so it's impossible to tell
At least no MLS team will have to play a Liga MX team right out off the bat
>>
>>74011049
>>74011058

That's fucking bad, at least next season with the next schedule we will play you with better form.
I remember a match of Galaxy vs Santos and LA had a freaking team with lots of European superstars but got fucked 0-4.

You are right, but I do think some team from Costa Rica could get you. They are playing good but have a lot of inconsistence
>>
>>74011133
The Galaxy was breaking in 5 new starters in their first official match with just a few scrimmages
Meanwhile their opposition had been playing for a couple of months
It's shit like this which is why MLS is so shit in the CCL
That and no one gives a fuck about the CCL
All of the games are still gonna be broadcast in English on Facebook
Is Omar Gonzalez still an embrassment?

He had a good run last year, overall solid but tends to make a lot of mistakes.

That's really bad and confusing, I would thought that MLS Directives would want to play European and SA Champions on Official matches to improve the league.

>>74011283
Not the team but the league. It would be good for the marketing and hell, the prestige of the league
>>
>>74011312
>it would be good to market the MLS to Americans who have never heard of it, by playing a European team Americans have never heard of.

Makes you think.
>>
>>74011240
It's not a bad roster for not having any DP's
Would probably expect them to go shopping for one this summer though
>>
>>74011312
>>74011326
Too right.

A celebrity player other than Becks or Landon Donovan would go a long way. I saw more press about MLS during the two weeks Ochocinco was on the practice squad than I have before or since.
>>
>>74011326
Then why bother on buying old stars if they fans have never heard of them?
>>
>>74011326
>the MLS

>>74011312
You're ignorant of the American sporting landscape
Those who watch Liga MX will continue to do so even if MLS won the CCL
No one else would give a damn about the CCL or the club world cup
>>
>>74011363
That's sad, I've always thought the MLS would want to improve the teams as fast as they could.
You know, like the plan of making the USMNT World Champions by 2022
>>
>>74011327
>>74011305
It's not a very good non-dp roster
It's basically Molino, Venegas who was a rotation player at Montreal, a bunch of Scandinavians, and a few average NASL players
>>
>>74011394
Playing those games won't help
It's gonna take massive investment everywhere which is slowly coming
A few wins in the CCL which the average MLS fan doesn't know about along with an appearance at the club world cup which the average soccer fan doesn't know about won't help that process
