It's so strange to watch. You can see the new Hamilton coming in but he was so much more bouncy and sassy then.

Bernie should break away and make a GP1 series. I'm pretty sure he already has GP1 copyrighted just in case someone tried to name a rival F1 breakaway series.

Spotted the 12 year olds
Ofcourse there is a good car needed to win a WDC, to assume Schumi is a carbabby is just bullshit. Yes he had the best car, but he still possessed exquisite skill. Plus he BTFO Barrichello.
Every champion is carbabby in someone way, Alonso carbabbied himself to WDC in 2005/2006, if for example Kubica would luck into a GOAT car like Button did he would have carbabbied himself to a WDC as well. Drivers like Barrichello, Webber and Coulthard were not good enough to win WDC in dominant cars.
I think that someone with at least the skill of Hulkenberg or Sainz has the potential to win WDC in a good car.
>>73963385

>>73963385
Goat tier lad
>>73956329
This is like some shit you'd see online in Forza
>>73963416
Most drivers could babby a championship in a great car. A more accurate measure of a driver's greatness comes from how they perform in weaker cars - i.e Schumi dragging the '96 Ferrari into wins, and most of Alonso's career since '06. So even if you can make a strong case some of his dominance came from being babbied, he proved himself long before that.
>>73963401
I just don't like him or the circlejerk around him, just about Hamilton tier 2bh
>>73963418
If Montoya had the right mentality and continued with F1 after 2006 he could have had a WDC 2bh, but those are what-ifs ofcourse

Just separate drivers into 5 tiers desu
TIER 1 - capable of winning races in all conditions, supremely consistent throughout their careers with the right mentality and/or are naturally quick enough to win titles, and are capable of outperforming any type of car.
TIER 2 - capable of winning in any conditions, supremely consistent, with the right mentality and/or are naturally quick enough to win multiple titles, but only if the car suits them.
TIER 3 - quick (sometimes very ballsy) drivers, unbeatable on their day but don't have the mentality and/or are not consistent enough (accident-prone/chokes too often/shit in the rain) to be a champion. usually end up being a 2nd driver to a tier 1/2 driver in a top team but might get lucky and win 1 meme title with an OP car and a tier 4 team mate.
TIER 4 - just good enough to be in F1. not that quick, average qualifier, average racer, never ballsy enough to make any overtakes. has a super license and sponsor money, and is good enough to get decent points for a midfield team. can also be a tier 1/2/3 driver that got really old (see: massa).
TIER 5 - incapable of actually racing an F1 car. a hazard to other drivers. doesn't pop very often. deletraz, ide, etc.

Without Manor to pad the grid Haas are totally screwed now. They're lucky to finish 9th and get that constructors prize money. Hopefully Haas can get some funding from Chase Carey so Liberty Media can keep an American team on the grid.
They way they had a downward spiral at the end of the season makes me almost feel bad for Grosjean and Kmag. Even for being a new team I thought the personnel on the team was made up of a bunch of former ex-F1 employees. and then Haas go and lose their one strategist to Sauber who actually got them that flukey 5th place in Bahrain that scored all of their points.

It really all depends on the Haas. If the car is clearly off the pace then I think his chances are limited. However if Haas make a decent car the competition between him and Grosjean will be interesting. They'll probably be the 7th or 8th constructor but it's too early to tell and that prediction is just based on previous seasons and team limitations. I think that Magnussen has some talent and deserves a seat but he is one of the more 'unknown' drivers when it comes to gauging his abilities. The Haas driver line-up is one of the more interesting ones if the car is somewhat competitive.

>The introduction of the Halo cockpit protection, planned for 2018, has been put on hold. A narrow majority of the drivers rejected the halo in an FIA survey. The FIA(not sure if this is the right translation here, it was literally "World Association") is continuing to research for alternatives.
>Motorsport purists have never loved the Halo. For the 2017 season , the ring-shaped cockpit protection was refused by the teams. They gave their disapproval at a meeting prior to the German GP.
>A quick introduction of the "halo" would have required a unanimous vote. The teams initially agreed, however, on an additional cockpit protection for 2018. According to the FIA, the titanium ring is currently the only practical solution.
>Prior to a definitive introduction in 2018, the FIA had the Halo tested during the second half of the 2016 season during the Friday practice. At the end of the season, representatives of the FIA(?) and drivers presented the last studies on the protective device, which was hotly debated in fan camps and in the paddock.
>Among other things doubts were dispelled that the driver could not free himself from a overturned car with Halo. The test in the laboratory with an upside-down Formula 3 car revealed the subject was able to leave the cockpit.
>On 10th January the FIA wrote to 22 drivers individually to obtain a final opinion. By February 1, according to our information, 16 responses were received, 7 against the halo, 5 for and 4 with no clear statement for or against. If the general consensus among the drivers is negative, the introduction of the protective device could be delayed.
>>73985638
last three paragraphs:
>Many team bosses are concerned. They feel that the Halo robs the cars of their visual appeal, and the typical appearance of F1 cars. They also asked the security experts of the FIA to consider other solutions that would cause less claustrophobia, do not adversely affect their visibility, and allow the driver to enter and exit faster.
>An alternative solution could be a cockpit screen. However, not the "Aeroscreen" model from Red Bull. That would not be widely accepted in team circles, for fear Red Bull would have an aerodynamic advantage. In addition, there were problems with running screens in the rain and a lab test with a fired wheel. The head of the dummy was severely damaged.
>The research is now proceeding in the direction of a smaller slice as planned by the IndyCar series from 2018 onwards. However, an introduction to Formula 1 on this date is rather unlikely. The FIA would have to provide concrete results by the end of April. They then needed unanimity for an introduction in 2018, and it is hard to get.

I think this is the right choice. I'm not against roofs or screens, but I think the Halo is useless and serves no purpose, other then adding weight. It seemed like a rushed decision that wasn't tested well enough.
If no other open-wheel series has a halo, why should F1? It's a retarded discussion that stems from the panic after Bianchi's death, but thankfully it should fade away now.

An F3 car has much lower sides than an F1 car. Not sure how they can claim that's proof that a driver can wiggle out.
>>73988026
go broke, set up company, get a bunch of preorders or whatever deals set up, make a few cars, pocket rest of the money, declare bankuptcy oops looks like youre not getting your cars sorry guys what can you do, destroy your name in the process and taint it for future generations, spend your final days old and borderline senile in some beachside resort living off essentially stolen money, die away and leave your children nothing but debt
its the brazilian way

Twenty-five Brits
stream every season in Formula 1,
and each year two of us get busted. What kind of person
does a job like this? Not normal men, for sure.
Rebels, beggers, criminals.
People who are desperate to get donations
and are prepared to get arrested trying.
My name is Daryl Smith,
and Google StreetView
knows me for two things.
The first is my rivalry with him.
(What about the aussie from 4chan? Has he brought justice?)
(No, he's JUST fucking your shit up.)
I don't know why it became such a big thing.
We were just redditors
sucking on each other's balls.
To me this is perfectly normal,
but other people saw it differently,
That whatever it was between us
went deeper.
The other thing I'm remembered for
is what happened in the 2016/17 off-season,
when Anonymous was chasing me
like an asshole.

Northern Irish but only by technicality. He holds an Irish racing license, not sure if he holds Irish citizenship as well but he's legally entitled to it if he wants it, and he considers himself Irish instead of British
>>73989291
Nice proxy Daryl
>>73989291
>>73989339
Irvine probably holds dual citizenship but so will everyone with Brexit. Has he actually said that he is more Irish than British? He had a shamrock on his helmet iirc. If he's said that he's Irish then he's pretty based for actually saying something.
Gentlemen, a short view back to the past. Thirty years ago, Bernie Ecclestone told us: "Take a trained monkey, place him into a cage and he is able to broadcast a race." Thirty years later Daryl Smith told us: "I had to start my computer. It's very complicated." And he also said, err, he played during the race, I don't remember what race, the Carry On Wayward song. Question for you to both. Is formula 1 broadcasting today too complicated with 20 and more buttons on the remote control, are you too much under effort, under pressure? What are your wishes for the future, concerning errrrmmm streaming?Less bandwidth, more? Or less and more comunication with your illegal stream providers?

Told you, DEATH TRAPS.

quote from 1995
>But at the end of the day, I'm Irish. I mean, I've got a British passport, but if you're from Ireland, north or south, you're Irish. And 'British' is. . . such a nondescript thing, isn't it?

Fantastic livery
I saw Daryl Smith at the Sky Legal Headquarters in London yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for donations or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept sticking pictures of Maldonado at my face and going “huh? huh? huh?” and playing porn in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen terraced houses in his hands without paying.
The Aussie at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Daryl, you need to let me blur those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear him, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When he took one of the houses and started blurring it multiple times, he stopped him and told him to blur them each individually “to prevent any henno infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After he scanned each house and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting him by asking for donations really loudly.
I bet that one Finn already has the thread ready and will post it on 499.
>>73987153
I can already see some similarities to the aerodynamic peculiarities in his backmarker F1 cars he raced for some years in F1.

According to this:
http://www.dynamic-flow.co.uk/uploads/5/5/8/5/55854345/f1_2017_overtaking_study.pdf
When following another 2017 car, aerodynamic balance shifts massively FORWARDS the closer a car gets to the next one, which is completely opposite to the norm.
What does this mean? It means instead of increasing understeer as a driver intends to overtake, risk of spinning out (Snap oversteer) is induced.
While total downforce is a little better when cars are running close together next year, this odd shift of balance could actually be quite dangerous!
It's gonna be a wild ride lads....
I am trying to create an excel based game for this year’s season. Please rate each driver’s skill level on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the best.

>>73990627
where you think they will be for 2017
>>73990763
>>73990763
My thought process:
>20 drivers, 2 per rank
>10 chassis, 1 per rank
>8 engines, 1 per rank with 3 as minimum
>Drivers
Lewis Hamilton 9
Valtteri Bottas 9
Daniel Ricciardo 9
Max Verstappen 9
Sebastian Vettel 8
Kimi Raikkonen 7
Sergio Perez 8
Esteban Ocon 3
Felipe Massa 3
Lance Stroll 2
Fernando Alonso 7
Stoffel Vandoorne 6
Daniil Kvyat 5
Carlos Sainz 5
Romain Grosjean 6
Kevin Magnussen 4
Nico Hulkenberg 4
Jolyon Palmer 1
Marcus Ericsson 1
Pascal Wehrlein 2
No 10s given out because there's no Jenson Button!
Hamilton and Ricciardo are actually 10s.
Obviously trying to consider each driver's worth individually but I think the only way you can reason any kind of driver ranking is if you assume that the better drivers are almost always in the best cars and vice versa. Otherwise you just end up talking in circles about driver's good and bad moments.
