Instinct is a few gens old, gold and white color scheme. Since I got it, my play style has become much more aggressive and I'm hoping to accommodate that. I got a VCORE Si 100 lite. Mostly hoping for something that can help make some good spin serves and net play (why I went with lighter weight)
>>73948216
Missed the best part of the match. Set 5was close as fuck and Fed wasted a million breakpoint s
>>73948368
forgot pic
>>73948368
Gotcha. What level do you play at?
Both of these racquets, IMO, are flyswatters. Really light. You'll get pushed around by other players and you'll have to compensate with increased racquet head speed (RHS), which leads to more errors.
I would actually suggest that you try some heavier frames.
It is true that it will be more maneuverable at the net (lighter and light swingweight), but it's much easier to volley well with a heavier racquet (more mass to block the ball back).
You should check out the Head Graphene XT Extreme Pro, especially if spin on your serve is something you're looking for. That's actually why I switched to it. I played with a Volkl Super G 8 315, but it wasn't giving me enough spin on serves.
Just personal preference though.
>>73948586
Level 5.0. I'm a big guy (for you) so I'm actually trying to get my RHS up. As is my problem with the Instinct is over-hitting anyways. But thanks, if the Yonex doesn't work out I'll give your recommendation a try
lol no one cares about federer's win because of the muslim ban eclipsing this news
>>73948784
No problem. It's all just personal preference. 5.0 is pretty legit, I'm really surprised you're going with a Lite racquet.
But then again I used to play with a 13 oz Pro Staff 90, so I'm a bit biased on the weight issue!
What strings do you use?
>>73948797
No one would have cared anyway
Tennis is a niche sport in the US
>>73948880
Cheapo Head synthetic gut. Racquet should be coming with Yonex Poly Tour Pro 125 16L. Got any recommendations there? DESU I've never paid much attention to my strings and just gone for budget replacements whenever they break or get worn out.
Also
>13 ounces
Jeez man, I know I for one don't wanna be swinging around a brick out there lmao
>>73949000
Nice get.
And yeah 13 oz is super hefty, now I'm down to 12 oz with my XT Extreme Pro. It feels so good to hammer the ball with all that weight though. You should demo a 12+ oz racquet sometime just to feel it, it feels so damn good to just crush through the ball.
As for strings, you mentioned overhitting before. If you're 5.0 level and using syn gut, that's pretty damn good. Poly will 100% help you reduce overhitting. It's an incredible difference.
I use Solinco Hyper-G, full bed. It's comfortable (for a poly) and has good tension maintenance (for a poly). It's one of the most popular polys for a good reason. My control and spin is night and day from when I used syn gut.
I don't know anything about Yonex Polys.
If you use a one-handed backhand, be careful with polys - you'll likely get tennis elbow. I switched from 1HBH to 2HBH for this reason.
>>73949090
Thanks, I'll look into those. Price isn't bad either. I use a 1H backhand defensively and a 2H offensively but I've considered going full 1H due to poor offense. I'll keep that in mind.
>>73949225
Well, I assume you mean you slice defensively. When I saw 1HBH/2HBH I mean topspin strokes. Since pretty much everyone slices one-handed.
Slicing one handed is fine, you likely will not have any issues with your elbow.
Golfer's elbow is a risk from serve/FH, but that's a much lower risk. Just something to watch out for when using polys (dead polys can be very harsh so just be aware of your string life).
>>73947780
I love you nishi
So fed's medical break roids kicked in at 3-1 huh.
Fuck Federer and fuck Swiss people
>>73942062
I was a big Rafter fan, seemed like a cool guy.
>>73949384
>Since pretty much everyone slices one handed
You'd be surprised. Dude I know is a slice king, fucker sometimes hits em 2H backhand somehow.
But thank you. For years I've just worked on improving technique rather than gear, and I figured now is as good a time as any to start gear whoring a little
>>73949572
Yeah, there are some weirdos like that. Mostly women. Freaks!
But yeah man good luck. Gear whoring is fun :) And it really can make huge differences in your game. Then you become like me and you get addicted to it and you end up changing too much...I have 9 racquets right now. I go through them like crazy...it's a bad addiction.

Short racquet reviews/impressions for anyone interested:
>Wilson Pro Staff 90
Classic, amazing feel, control and touch is off the charts, good spin for a 90 sq in size, but difficult to use, no free power
>Wilson Pro Staff 95S
Haven't had a chance to play much with it yet
>Prince Classic Graphite 100
AMAZING racquet, my favorite of all time, the feel is spectacular, the spin is spectacular. I serve best with this racquet. My only issue is that it's too flexible and doesn't have much power.
>Head Graphene XT Extreme Pro
My replacement for the PCG 100. Great blend of power and control. Big time spin. Feels a bit tinny and not great touch, but ideal for modern baseline game. My current racquet.
>Babolat Aeropro Drive
The most popular racquet in the world. Not my cup of tea. Light, hollow-feeling, too much power (too stiff).
>Babolat Pure Aero
Ridiculous topspin. Swings really well. Feels better than the APD. Lacks control due to open string pattern. Not heavy enough (I need to try the Tour version). I tinkered with lead tape but never got it right.
>Babolat Pure Strike Tour
Absolute beast, just mashes the ball. Not very comfortable. Not great touch. Just a masher. I like it.
>Yonex Ai 98
Great all-around racquet. Huge sweet spot. Powerful, but still has control. I've played really great tennis with this BUT it requires me to change my FH technique a bit and when I'm off, I'm OFF. I stopped using it because I just couldn't sync my FH. Not sure why.

>>73946695
>>73946711
JFC I love this woman. What I would do to get her into top 15 again.
>>73950106
>Volkl Super G 8 315
One of my favorites. I weighted it up to 12.5 oz and it just crushes the ball off the ground. Massive, massive forehands. Just an absolute beast. Sweet paint job too. Nice touch and good control for all the power. Really love this racquet. But, it left my arm sore and it doesn't give me enough spin on serves.
Others I used to own:
>ProKennex Kinetic Pro 7G
Fun to hit with. Really comfortable. Crushes the ball. The high swingweight gets tiring, though, and I couldn't slice very well with it.
>Prince Textreme Tour 100P
Never gelled with it. Didn't use it for long. Didn't like the Textreme feel, felt stiff but tinny.
>Prince Textreme Warrior 100
I really wanted to like this one, I played with it a lot, but in the end it was too light. I tried weighting it up but it threw the specs out of whack. Easy racquet to play with but just too light.
>Prince Textreme Tour 95
Lots of people love this stick and I wanted to love it, but see my comments about the 100P. Didn't like the feel. Offers me nothing over my Pro Staff 90.
>Prince EXO3 Rebel Team 98
Too light for me, not enough control, but could hit some really fun spin. Weird racquet.
>Wilson BLX 110
My first racquet. Stupid light. Huge racquet head size. I don't get how people play with these oversized racquets. No control, hard to maneuver, etc. Can't believe I used to play with this.
>Dunlop Muscle Weave 200G
Absolutely no free power. Difficult to swing. But, extreme stable. No spin. Good for flat hitting. I prefer the Pro Staff 90 for better feel and spin.
>Spalding Tour Pro
Old 90 sq in racquet from the 90s. Very rare. Super heavy. Stable as a rock and sliced better than anything I've ever hit with. The slice from this was just insane. Sold it to my friend, who then used it against me. I hated dealing with his slices.

Wawrinka, Cilic, Thiem, Nadal, Berdych, Goffin, Tsonga, Dimitrov, Alex Zverev, Gasquet all playing
really up in the air for a 500
>arnaud clement, rainer schutler, yavgeny kalefnikov, magnus norman, alex corretja, thomas johansson, albert costa, martin verkerk, guilermo coria, gaston gaudio, mark philippoussis, mariano puerta, marcos baghdatis, fernando gonzalez
all of these players reached grand slam finals in the 2000s, and people(delusional federer shills) like to try and claim that it wasn't a weak era?
LMAO
>What's that Pat Cash? How many slams do you have? Not 18? That's a shame :^)

>>73959154

Literal cherry picking. If it was such a weak era before the Big 4 came along then why does Nadal have a losing h2h record against many whos including Davydenko boasting 4 straight losses '09-'11 in his prime.

go and look at the career statistics of them. most of them young man.
they were all journeyman who had unremarkable careers before and after memeing their way to a final. a lot of them never reached another QF in any other GS before or after. if you compare the first 6 years of that decade with the first 6 of this, that decade had around 4x the number of players that reached a final. there was only 1 great player in that era, and a whole load of average shite that made ity easy to get to a final as long as you weren't in federer's half. thankfully we have 4 all time greats in this era to keep the jobbers in check, or you'd have nobodies like seppi and kohlschreiber reaching finals like happened in the 2000s

Proof you have no clue what you're talking about
>memeing way to a final
More proof, winning is the point of the sport
>>73959215
>>73959221
In fact I just put the "a lot of them never reached another QF" to the test, you listed 14 names and 3 of them never made another QF (one of them was doped up to the eyeballs when he did make the final so we can call it 2 out 13).
Someone phone the fucking dictionary, "a lot" now means 15%
>>73959221
kafelnikov did have an largely unremarkable career. the fact that me managed to win a slam playing ONE seed(the 15th) in the entire tournament tells you all you need to about his era; it was utter dogshite.
he still hasn't been inducted into the tennis hall of fame, despite being eligible for the past 9 years. for comparison marat safin and andy roddick were elected in at the first available opportunity.
>if you compare the first 6 years of that decade with the first 6 of this, that decade had around 4x the number of players that reached a final. there was only 1 great player in that era, and a whole load of average shite that made ity easy to get to a final as long as you weren't in federer's half. thankfully we have 4 all time greats in this era to keep the jobbers in check, or you'd have nobodies like seppi and kohlschreiber reaching finals like happened in the 2000s

If Nadal and Djokovic were 5 years younger Fed would be barely better Murray tier with regards to grand slam wins. This is simple fact.
>>73959734
If Nadal was 5 years younger, Federer would have probably 4 to 5 more Grand Slams
>>73959763
No. Between the 2 of them they would clean out all of the slams Fed would have any chance of winning. I'm sure he'd win wimbledon a couple of times but he'd certainly be 3rd best.

Get real Władysław
>>73959196
>do nothing but lose as soon as the big 4 come into their prime
Federer is one match under .500 against Djokovic despite being over 30 for more than half their matches, an age when many tennis players have already retired or their game has fallen to pieces. Nadal actually has a worse record against Djokovic despite being 5 years younger than Federer. Face it, Nadal's the clay GOAT, but Federer's the GOAT of tennis.
>>73971295
the real shame is that he doesn't have injuries or something to make an excuse for like del potro

I think you can add Richard Gasquet to this list. The guy was winning slams as a Junior, heralded as a future no 1. And maybe Monfils, but he's too lazy and unfocused.
>>73971606
Yes, definitely expected more from Gasquet. It says something that I forgot to even mention him, he's really underachieved. Monfils is another one of those guys that can hit the hell out of the ball, but would rather play defensive tennis a mile behind the baseline.
how many slams do you guys think fed ends up with?

>>73973300
Still, you have to give props to Tsonga for this demolition. Nadal hasn't lost a set til he faced him at this AO semifinal so he was in good form.
>>73972805
He didn't choke. How many times? He got outplayed, hard. It was the choke by Fed that even let him break in the 5th. That was a joke considering Fed's game in the 5th.
Discounting that, Rafa didn't choke at all, he was just a class below Roger in the final set, for sure he had no answer to Roger's backhand in the entire match and it showed in the final set.
>>73973414
Sure, but Nadal has improved since then, even as a hater I have to give him that. Back then he was literal dogshit outside of clay.
He only won Wimbledon against Roger because Roger had mono.
Since 2009 Rafa definitely has improved his game to be an all court threat, before that he was a joke imo.

And also his idiotic scheduling. Fucking Nadal still playing tournaments back to back this year. He must still be thinking he is in his lower 20's or that he wont make it past the early rounds in all of them.
That's why he is always nursing an injury or out of gas once the clay season ends. IMHO, he at most should be playing only 2 clay tournaments before RG considering his age and injury historial if he wants to have enough in his body to win it this year.
Not to mention that he will probably be playing doubles in some of these tournaments.

People like Anna are actually what ruined womens tennis
I mean it made the people/their appearance more important than the tennis they played. People fapped so much to Anna that nobody gave a fuck about the actual sport. You could get huge as a female player just on looks alone. It was never like that before, think back to Graf.
It continued with Sharapova. Anyway women's tennis is awful, but I mean imagine if people only watched/cared about mens tennis because they found certain players attractive. It would ruin the sport and make losers who are attractive big stars even if they only make quarters.
>>73984065
none of that is kournikova's fault

Some people have been saying the Oz open final is one of the best ever. I won't even agree to disagree, I will disagree! Sure, the 5th set was objectively great, the rest of the match was not top, top qualität. It was still far above decent tennis but I don't for a second believe it should go down as one of the goat matches.

it's not just the quality of the tennis mate. It's the significance of two old legends of the sport with a long rivalry coming back to battle it out one last time, the victor solidifying their legacy in the process.
On top of that, the drama and quality of shotmaking in the 5th set only elevated it to being an all time great final, to top off an all time great grand slam event. This Australian Open will be remembered decades from now

The match singlehandedly destroyed any argument for Nadal being better than Federer
Literally it's over, GOAT is Federer.
Nadal is just a great player.

I'm an old cunt I don't remember googling her and I my dad was into computers and shit when I was a kid. I don't remember google being a thing back then. I remember getting a boner watching her play though. Wtf are you ahmed.

Please don't tell me you think Berdych and Raonic are a tier above Tsonga and Ferrer.
>>73984489
Disgusting to watch. Denied us a juicy Fed-Djoke SF after Fed had ended his 40+ winning streak at RG right before Wimbledon.
What's better, Top Spin 4 or Virtua Tennis 4? (PS3)
Also, have there seriously not been any tennis videogames released since 2011?
>>73984599
and?
Google was probably a fucking new thing back then and horny boys like me who was new to the internet would have searched like crazy, sadly on my 56k modem I was going to playboy.com and losing my fucking mind and didn't know about google.
I don't remember googling actually being a thing until I was in late highschool. I researched shit from books. God I used big mama search engine(?)
But you need to learn how statistics work, if something says "it was the most common search string" it could mean horny fuckers searched for her 1000 times. Ya get it.

Silly anons. Berdych was quite good as a teenager, he knocked Federer out of the 2004 Olympics, and in 2005 won the Paris Masters. He was the only player other than Roger and Rafa to win a Masters in 2005.
>Berdych never won a big title

Anna really isn't what ruined women's tennis, there was hardly anything there to ruin in the first place, she's only the representation of what it's meant to be.
At its core, it's just a display of male fetish: we like tennis and we like women, so let's give racquets to some pretty women and pretend they are competing for something. It is a popularity contest, no matter how much you pay them to win, or how much ESPN pushes the equality/we can do it angle.
People who have no IRL ties to female players but seriously support them for anything other than their looks, are autistic.

the quality of the match itself wasn't all that great. they weren't playing their best tennis but in terms of the context, it was exciting because they were both looking to make history. plus they hadn't met in a GS final in so long. plus, it's Fedal. all these factors added to why people gave a shit about the match
but quality-wise, yeah, not the GOAT match

the AO final was not the best in terms of skill displayed, but it is a worthy contender for the greatest final match, because of all the circumstances that added up to it
>both finalists used to be very, very great
>both finalists' rivalry goes back a long time
>both finalists have no business winning Slams anymore, based on recent results
>final goes into the 5th set
>one finalist is expected to constantly come up short in the 5th set, yet comes back from a deficit and wins in the end
>>73985154
>No Federer
He's one sexy man
>>73985158
>both finalists have no business winning Slams anymore
I agree with everything else but Federer (up untill last year when he went through and injury spell) is still consistantly getting to QF's/SF's basically every single tournement
Everytime Andy and Novak dip inform he wins everything
>>73985154
>implying Federer's play and style wasn't sexy as fuck
>>73985169
yeah it's pretty absurd that his recent slam record is W, SF, SF, F, F, QF
>>73985180
It was about how they look. I made a joke that the most handsome guys on tour had also really nice looking style of play. All of them present offensive brand of tennis.
>why doesn't nadal just pick the second I/O shot back up like he did the last one
>>73985118
Federer BTFO.
>>73985262
Nadal is not an intelligent player he never has been
>Novak and Andy stay shit all year
>Nadal vs Fed in the finals of every slam
>Fed wins them all
>Retires with his first calander slam and 21 Grand Slams
Best timeline yes/no?
>>73985337
Yes, but not even the combined power of Kek and resurrected Thoth can bring that timeline to effect.
>>73941897
Because he's a nice guy with a great aesthetic style. Who cares about some ugly, grunting lanklet like Djokovic or Murray?
>>73985337
He might win Wimbledom if that happens, but I doubt he can pull the French Open out from under Nadal, especially now that he's old.
>>73985337
Yes or alternatively:
>Nadal in RG
>EBAM in Wimbly
>Bot in UO
And he reaches 22 next year because I'd prefer a round number

Cause he couldn't reach. Dude is 30, it's not like he's gotten faster over the years.
Federer's shot placement is such that you cannot fucking return it once he hits a couple in succession, because you'll be out of position no matter how fast and agile you think you are.
This is what Nadal has now learned because he no longer has the insane stamina and speed he used to have.

Sounds a lot like Murray, really. Looks like he's completely done, then runs around the court like the Flash.

also on the topic of tennis generals, although i think they would be pretty dead im on board with it. Lots of pop culture related stuff happens with the players on twitter and such that is often funny or cringey(think sjw players like gibbs or jamie hampton) that i enjoy joking about and discussing. I like the atmosphere of /ten/ and the bros who post here are pretty cool. I cant really stand much of the shitposting that happens on spee but ten is nice.
