He's admitted himself that he only plays for money. Now that he has it, he has no reason to work on maintaining/improving his craft. He doesn't care about winning or being a good teammate or even his own effectiveness. He'll be north of 4.00 ERA for the rest of his career, and the Dbacks were dumb enough to go for it.

Among active pitchers he's top 10 his stint as the #2 behind Kershaw set him up for the first time in his career to pitch without any pressure. If he had a bad game nobody really paid attention, he was quietly putting up better sub 2.7 ERA's over 225+ without attracting attention

what with handegg concussing itself out of existence and all the normies getting bored of the same somewhat disappointing spectacle every year, the ones that are depraved enough to be devoted to sports will switch over to the patrician baseball fan life once their local team is on the up and they realize how unmatched it is in terms of storytelling potential, daily play and the simple genius of the game.

cubs WS win and game 7 has opened and re-opened the public's eyes to baseball. it's only a matter of time before it dominates the sports landscape once again

It slowly is. The Cubs winning the World Series is a sign it's going to make that distinction. Now if they keep winning, like the time period when the Red Sox won, baseball will be popular again. You need a historic team to be at the top for it to become relevant and that's what the Cubs are doing.

The NL has more intrigue and strategy due to the pitchers having to take their turn at the plate. Do I pull my pitcher now and burn another reliever or wait until his time in the order? Which pinch hitter should I use here? Do I walk the number 8 hitter or pitch to him? Do I want my pitcher to bunt or swing away?

Shark is hot trash brother, the guy is seriously trash and will be SF's #2 after 2017 when Cueto leaves unless they resign him for 120M, Moore is good at times and was very good near the end of 2016 but was otherwise very mediocre. Ryu in his career has been better than both while pitching through a torn labrum. Wood is younger than them and is also better. Stewart would he SF's #1 prospect. And Kazmir at this point is whatever. You can be a homer. But don't be a deluded idiot. The only pitcher who has potential to grow is Moore who I belive can be great, everyone else, no. Blach is a bullpen piece. The guy will get lit the fuck up. Screenshot this psot and read it to yourself in June when SF begins to shop for SP.

You sound like an ignorant piece of shit with no understanding of analytics or advanced metrics. Jon Lester is a top 10-15 pitcher but a low-tier 7-10 at most. His metrics are not so great that it's criminal to not have him listed. Hes far too reliant on his defense. Same reason why Hendricks isn't there. Zobrist is barely a 2B at all with the Cubs and isn't better than Cano. Cano is right where he should be, at #2. The top three 2B are without question Murphy, Cano, Altuve in whatever order. As I said, you sound like an incredible ignorant piece of trash so you'll fir right in.
>>
>>73957420
Longoria should be significantly higher. I'd put him as high as 3. Guy still has the game.
>>
>>73958078
goldy is the best first baseman in 2017 hands down. last year was a little off in some major stat categories but those walks dont lie. people did not want to pitch to him ever.

votto being third is ridiculously too high and freddie freeman is too low.

The real list is:
1. Goldy
2. Freeman
3. Rizzo
4. Miggy
5. Votto
6. Wil Myers cause he has eligibility

>>
>>73958105
>Kyle "fluke my shit up" Hendricks.

If there was an open draft today Hendricks would be the 20th pitcher taken.
>>
>>73958116
In terms of being necessary to the team's success? My arguments stand.

Daniel Murphy is too high as well, he and Cano are candidates for regression, they will not repeat those stats, hence, it is foolish to rate them this high. I'm not saying they're bad players, I'm saying they're likely to regress substantially with showy numbers looking to be flukish.

Since 2009, Zobrist has been a sub 4 WAR or higher player, the outlier of that with his season between Oakland and Kansas City. Compare that to players like Cano or Murphy who have been fluky through key stretches.
>>
>>73958124
Goldy is an unspectacular player, Rizzo is the best and most reliable cleanup hitter in the league. Maybe if Goldy went to a winning team he could prove himself worthy in the end.

>>73958136
Name me 19 pitchers that would go ahead of him.
>>
Also is anyone else playing the show to take the edge off?

Steve Pearce is on my team and we're playing against the Jays, it all comes full circle
>>
>>73958128
its difficult. all of them had stupid good seasons. each different in their own way. miggy led the way with most TB, rizzo had a stupid all around season but maybe he should be lower for being in that line up. freeman had a career year.

im just saying for 2017 thats how i'd rank em. firstbase is a highly contested position
>>
>>73958088
You apparently care enough to single someone out because of their political views.

I like to call this snowflake mentality.
>>
>>73958152
Miggy is aging and continuously regressing, Votto can't stay healthy and Goldy doesn't produce enough to push himself above the rest.

Freeman could be a good argument for challenging Rizzo, but he too needs to stay healthy.

Right now, the best candidate for best first baseman, is therefore Rizzo.
>>
>>73958137
But Kyle Hendricks and Jake Arrieta are not flukes right? Becuase they play for your team?
I also had no idea that Cano being injured classified him as a fluke. You're so fucking clueless to disrespect a guy of his talent who is arguably on his way to the hall, Cano gas always been great. Murphy we thought was a fluke but the guy has ALWAYS been able to put the ball in play with incredible awareness of the zone with less than a 10% K rate. The guy just broke out. I didn't want to believe it but when you look at his peripherals it's clear he's just the same hitter just elevated his numbers. Stoo posting please. Zobrist is a fine player I agree, but he's not better than the three I jsut listed. You have to be mental.

Rizzo is also not better than Freeman or Goldschmid, put them in that Cubs lineup and they would tear shit up. Show me what protection Freeman and Goldy have? They never get priced to. There's no reason to.

Watch baseball.
>>
>>73958143
youre insane if you think goldy is "unspectacular"

last year was a subpar year for him and he finished first in walks, second in OBP and first in SB. even his down stats weren't even all that bad. last year he had one of the all time great seasons put out by a 1B not named Miggy. On top of being younger than 30.

last year he was on a legendarily shit offensive team rivaled by only the braves. this year will be better with everyone getting healthy
>>
>>73958166
i agree with miggy being old thats why he isn't number one.

but you forget his stat line from last season

38HR 335TB (most) 108 RBI .316 .393OBP
>>
>>73958167
>You're so fucking clueless to disrespect a guy of his talent who is arguably on his way to the hall

Cano has never been the same in Seattle. He has been injured way too much and has been awful in 2015's first half. With his 2016 numbers looking abnormal at his age 34 season, I am not confident he will repeat these numbers again as his age and health continue to show.

>Murphy we thought was a fluke but the guy has ALWAYS been able to put the ball in play with incredible awareness of the zone with less than a 10% K rate

Will he repeat these numbers, will he elevate himself as a 4-5 WAR player every year? I don't think so. This is where Zobrist proves himself superior.
>>
>>73958143
Kershaw, syndergaard, deGrom, urias, scherzer, Archer, Bumgarner, sale, kluber, Cueto, Tanaka, Lester, Verlander, Sánchez, martinez, Teheran, Carrasco, Salazar, Jansen, Chapman, Miller, Britton.

Hendricks is goo because of his defense. He would otherwise be a 3.2-3 5 pitchee, solid but not elite. This is how GM's rank talent. On a large sample size. Same reason why Arrieta has yet to receive any interest on an extension. He's releasing back to his normal 5 ERA self.

And tell us why Kershaw is the 4th best pitcher in baseball.

If you were building a team today, kershaw would be your 4th pick in a rotation? You think kershaw would be the 4th starter behind those pitchers you listed?

Kershaw is a terrible postseason pitcher. It's the same reason why people always rated Tom Brady over Peyton Manning.

I'd take proven postseason aces like Jon Lester and MadBum over a person who crumbles under pressure like Kershaw.

That doesn't mean I dislike Kershaw, sorry to hurt your feelings, but it rather means, I want to win in the playoffs, and I need the necessary arms for those.

Considering Arrieta had one of the best 2nd halfs in baseball history 2 years ago, and was a key part to a team's postseason success, I think my point stands.

Moreover, as I explained earlier, Zobrist has been a 4-5+ WAR player year after year since 2009, Cano and Murphy are regression candidates for years to come with their backloaded contracts.

Kyle Hendricks already has a name and was the unheralded best pitcher on the Cubs last season. Many baseball analysts agree.

Gary, congrats to your Cubs on the WS win. I know you're a big fan and really believe that at each position and in the rotation, the Cubs are far and away the most elite force in baseball for the next decade. >>

Too many contrarians and homers, can't blame them.

I literally agree with a lot you say, except Kershaw being elite, he's the best pitcher, but he's not by any means elite compared to guys like Pedro, Maddux, or Randy

watch this video then comeback and say that.
nobody in the history of baseball has been as dominant as Kershaw for the length of time that he'd been dominant. Only Pedro has had the higher peak, but even then it was only for his 1999 season, and even kershaw has been more dominant for a longer length of time.

this is just factual. i dont make this up Kershaw is already within the top 10 to have ever live and hasnt turned 29 yet, craaaaaazy.

I'll say it one more time:

>yu darvishs' professional career started in 2012
>it didnt start when he was 18 pitching in the NPB
>yu darvish doesnt hold the record for quickest to 500K's
>yu darvishs' 11.32 K/9 isnt the higest of all time int he history of the fucking sport

and they replies I'm getting are so far out stupid to try and disprove something that is factual and irrefutable.

this is all true, you can be mad all you like, all of this is true. you and i cant change these facts:

>yu darvishs' professional career started in 2012
>it didnt start when he was 18 pitching in the NPB
>yu darvish doesnt hold the record for quickest to 500K's
>yu darvishs' 11.32 K/9 isnt the higest of all time int he history of the fucking sport

chris sale struck out 274 batters over 208.2 IP (11.8 K/9) in 2015. scherzer struck out 284 batters over 228.1 IP (11.2 K/9) in 2016. both those guys have pitched over 200 innings at least 3 times in their careers and have career K/9 over 10. poo darvish has done it once and barely has half of sale's IP so muh career rate means shit all.

>4 year sample size where he only pitched over 200 IP once

ayyyyyyy lmao

refer to >>73958612 to see how marginally he was better in strikeout totals than other actually good pitchers in his same era. kershaw and scherzer have blown him out since his HISTORICAL 277 strikeouts in 2013.

why does no one respecting a shitty >rags pitcher trigger you so much? lmao keep repeating your most cherry picked of cherry picked stats fuccboi, there's only one mad here
>>
I like Yu Darvish but he's not shit. That said, he's a great strikeout pitcher, I just wonder if he'll be the same after injuries and having to carry the weight of a pitching starved team and reaching his 30s.

One more time:
>Yu Darvishs' 2013 campaign with 277 K's was the most in 12 years.

They can.
>>
>>73962063
Because it's a real man's sport and they don't claim to need a week's worth of rest between games
Also, there's more distribution of talent, so there's a way higher chance of the worse team somehow winning. Therefore, a 12-game season could be extremely flukey, so they have 162 so teams can prove themselves over a larger sample size.

I thought that was just because there's a lot more luck involved in baseball than most sports.
>>
>>73962308
Kinda both. There's more room for error, because it's a harder sport than others, so nobody is gonna be able to play even close to perfect every time.
But there's definitely better distribution of talent too.
Also, it's more of a rhythm/momentum game. Some teams may be stacked, but have a bad month or so, and craphole teams can go on hot streaks.

Ken Harrelson called him better than kris bryant, so he must be!

>>73962914

look at rendon's stats, he had only 20 hrs and batted .270 with 9 errors and only drove in 85.

i guess the question is would you rather have .045 more average or 20 hrs.

id put frazier at #10
>>
>>73962947
DINGERS!
>>
also i just looked up lambs stats and frazier compares very favorable as well:

lamb boy only batted .249, had 29hrs and had 91 rbi's. he also has a negative dWAR and fraziers is at least positive.

so i'd move up frazier to 9 on that list
>>
>>73962947
Frazier is worse defensively and they are about equal offensively
>>
>>73962897
>98rbi while hitting .150 with risp in an abysmal lineup
how did he do it

he's still probably not top 10 though

I believe in abroo to be a top 10 1B again though, also Q will probably be the 11th best pitcher as usual. Anderson will be near the top 10 shortstops

well rendon is a 1.1 dwar and frazier is .1 so its not that much of a difference defensively, but the offensively frazier is 3.6 owar and rendon is 3.3 owar so yeah theres not much difference, but 40 homers vs 20 homers is a big ass difference, im not too familiar with how oWAR factors dingers but its a pretty good difference to the everyday joe
