British casuals, this is your last chance to see Sir Wiggins on the road, and riding for Sky. Do not miss it, because he's willing to kill himself for this one.
>>
>>57889722
Wiggins has an air of depression around him

Which he's had for a while, I guess
>>

Yeah, I think he's suffering because the end is in sight.

I'll miss his depression and melancholy banter.
>>

Actually he'll still be racing on the road with team Wiggins.

And no, he won't win the race tomorrow.

True, but second tier races. Tour of Britain is probably the only one people might see.

I didn't say he'd win, I said he's willing to go all out to do it. fwiw I think he could do it. Boonen thinks he's clear fav.
>>
All of you attending, do some fucking rain dances!
>>
>>57890282
I can't see how he would actually win. There's literally no way he could win a sprint, and he isn't explosive enough to attack. I don't think he's strong enough compared to the other main contenders to just ride clear off the front either. I think sky would be much better off focussing 100% on Thomas. With someone as strong as Wiggins behind him to help control things, and given his strong recent form, I think he could take it.
>>
>>57890659
he is pretty much a weaker cancelara for classics.

with bonen and cance ded he might have a chance but i doubt it

Tour of Britain needs to be upgraded to the world tour. It can replace the Tour of Poland.
>>
>>57890736
I wouldn't say he's a weaker Cancellara, rather a totally different kind of rider.
>>
does anybody else think predicting the winner for classics is an exercise in futility?
>>
>>57890659

He's talking about breaking with a small group here, says he's definitely stronger than he was last year when he should have attacked, but didn't.
It's been pissing it down all afternoon, so he's probably fucked anyway, lel.

http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/news/latest-news/bradley-wiggins-guide-to-paris-roubaix-166119
>>
>>57890659

He won a bunch sprint in Romandie!

He needs to still be there in the final 30 then make his way into a small group that Etixx + Katusha are happy not to chase (something like Terpstra, Roelandts, Oss, maybe Paolini). Then you never know.
>>
>>57890798

nah. don't want to make it so the smaller british teams aren't allowed to race.
>>
>>57890845

Kristoff, mate.
>>
>>57890798

I was in Sheffield on Jenkin Road for the second day, absolutely mental, will never forget it.
>>
>>57890974

Nah his form has been beastly but nothing lasts forever
>>
>>57890945

Yeah good point actually. I'd love see more of the top riders race it though.
>>
>>57890845
Mostly, but it's still kind of fun.

>>57890870
I think he's certainly stronger than last year, but I still can't see how he's going to attack from what will inevitably be a bunch of some big name classics boys, he just doesn't seem to have the explosiveness. And it will most likely be dry for the race tomorrow, but I think a wet race would actually favour him quite a lot.

>>57890886
That was against a bunch of GC riders and climbers while he was at the absolute peak of his career, there's just no way he can out sprint guys like Degenkolb or Greipel, even if he was somehow stronger than he was back then. And there's no way any team will let him get into a small group out front unless they have their no1 man in there with him.

>>57890974
The peak he was on at Flanders and Scheldeprijs is most likely over now, I would say he's an outsider for Roubaix.

.
>>
>>57891873
>And there's no way any team will let him get into a small group out front unless they have their no1 man in there with him.

Why not if he can't outsprint anyone? Especially if Kristoff is behind.

>The peak he was on at Flanders and Scheldeprijs is most likely over now, I would say he's an outsider for Roubaix.

Based on what?
>>
>>57892019
>Why not if he can't outsprint anyone? Especially if Kristoff is behind.

Because he's still strong enough to attack out of a mid level group, especially on the cobbles, and then he'll be incredibly hard to bring back.

>Based on what?

The way his performances have increased up to this point from around San Remo time is typical of a taper and peak, and that peak won't last forever, especially when his level of performance was so high in Flanders. I think he's an outsider because now he'll, most likely, be coming off his peak, whereas some other riders will be hitting theirs just at Roubaix (such as, seemingly, Vanmarcke)

>Look familiar? It should. Alexander Kristoff is sticking with his Canyon Aeroad aero road bike, the one he used to win the Tour of Flanders last week, for the bigger, nastier cobbles of Paris-Roubaix. In fact, most of his team will ride the Aeroad, rather than the Ultimate, a more traditional road frame. The Aeroad has plenty of clearance, even for a 28mm tire, so the team believes it doesn't need the extra cushion provided by an endurance frame.

He's not racing there and there's no way he wins with that finish. When the race ended in a flat section some sprinters could keep up with the favourites till the end (like Zabel) but with this parcours he has no shot.
>>
>>57918040
He didn't make the final group, he failed as team leader.

>>57918097
Nope, they even said before the race that they were going all in. Hence why Thomas burned himself out long before the final.
>>
>>57918145

And shame on him for even trying.

Boo Wiggins! We don't want grand tour winners racing on the cobbles. Is that right?

He's raced it seriously twice, and both times was in the final group after carrefour de l'arbre.

He deserves immense credit.

Are you a fanboy or what.
I'm jsut saying that he wasn't among the ones who had a chance in the end.

It's good that he tried but he wasn't good enough.
The credit goes to the best.
>>
>>57918385

Yes, I'm a fanboy.

People laughed at the very idea of him being competitive at Roubaix. And two years in a row he has been.

Did you see the panic when he attacked on the cobbles? Etixx were so frightened of him they refused to ride even when they had 2 men in the 4 man break with him.

Not one other "favourite" even tried to attack on the cobbles.
>>
>>57918324
He should have been working for Thomas, or not there at all. He was never going to win, anyone with half a brain and a vague knowledge of cycling wasn't seriously considering him a contender. He's a great TT and track rider, but he's not a classics man.

>>57918505
>People laughed at the very idea of him being competitive at Roubaix. And two years in a row he has been.

It doesn't matter how "competitive" he is, only results count, especially when you have all those top riders and such a huge team behind you.

>Did you see the panic when he attacked on the cobbles? Etixx were so frightened of him they refused to ride even when they had 2 men in the 4 man break with him.

or maybe they were just using the most basic tactics?

>Not one other "favourite" even tried to attack on the cobbles.

and yet they were the ones up the road.

go back to the road.cc comments and circlejerk about your "epic" sportives and how much you love Wiggins you pleb.
>>
>>57918638
>He should have been working for Thomas

Thomas who finished where exactly?

>or maybe they were just using the most basic tactics?

you think not riding when you have 2 in a break of 4 (against someone who "anyone with half a brain and a vague knowledge of cycling wasn't seriously considering a contender") is basic tactics? good use of logic.

jesus fucking christ. watch a race or two before you post again.
>>
>>57918958
>Thomas who finished where exactly?

he was working all race long for Wiggins, naturally he'll have a poor finish.

>you think not riding when you have 2 in a break of 4 (against someone who "anyone with half a brain and a vague knowledge of cycling wasn't seriously considering a contender") is basic tactics? good use of logic.

They obviously didn't want to have those particular riders go up the road at that time, so of course they would sit in. Why would they let the break go on anyone else's terms?

I know exactly what kind of person you are, you started watching cycling in 2012, and I think that says it all.
>>
>>57919122
>only results count
>only results count
>only results count

Actually Thomas crashed out of the race. You sure you were watching?

They had Stybar in a group with Wiggins (who "anyone with half a brain and a vague knowledge of cycling wasn't seriously considering a contender"), and decided Wiggins was too dangerous to ride with.
>>
>>57918638
>>57919122

You really are the worst type of people lol
>>
come on, mate. the guy who won the tour de france and countless other prestigious races, who is world time trial champion, and who has won 4 olympic golds (so far) didn't win paris-roubaix so deserves to be mocked for the failure he is.
>>
Wiggins rode a decent race. But he's not attack minded enough for a one day race. He put in 1 dig.

Thomas wasn't working for Wiggins all race at all. He crashed out like he always does.

QuickStep fucked up refusing to ride as always employing pussy tictacs because they haven't a clue how to ride now Boonen is washed up.

Degenkolb rode brilliantly, following the right wheels, attacking at precisely the right moment, and destroying the sprint.
>>
>>57919237
>They had Stybar in a group with Wiggins (who "anyone with half a brain and a vague knowledge of cycling wasn't seriously considering a contender"), and decided Wiggins was too dangerous to ride with.

They decided that having that break go up the road with those riders in did not suit their overall plan; the race is much bigger than just those 4 riders and that one break.

>>57919354
He's a fantastic rider with some amazing achievements, and I respect greatly what he has achieved, but riding Roubaix was a mistake. If Thomas had targeted this race from the start, he could have won it.
>>
>>57919491
You mean Geraint "Crash" Thomas?

He has more crashes the past 2 seasons than any other 2 riders.
>>
>>57919539
He was incredibly strong in the early season races he targeted, just look at how he won E3 and was super strong in GW despite getting quite literally blown into a ditch.
>>
