The SEC kool aid is as strong as ever.
Some voters straight up need to be executed.

Because the SEC and SEC voters are cancer
The fact that one person has them as the #1 team on their ballot makes me want to end humanity.
>>
How the fuck does Bama get a #1 vote...
>>
Why does A&M shoot up to 9 after beating a South Carolina team that is now considered 21?

Why does Georgia shoot up to 6 with 2 idiots giving them #1 votes after beating a Clemson team now considered 23?

They clearly do not have much respect for their opponents now.
Why would they have enough respect to jump them up that high, over many teams that also played and beat their opponents.
This isn't consistent.
South Carolina and Clemson are giving them respect because of a preseason poll??? Nobody knows how good either one will actually be.

Thank god the polls are meaningless but hopefully these idiots don't influence the playoff committee.

National media hype and social media stupidity has killed the AP poll and sports journalism entirely.

The general rule to being #1, especially when you're the defending champ, is "don't lose, you stay there".

Besides, who looked convincing enough to top them? Alabama with their 10 point win over a cellar-dweller? Oregon or Michigan State with their wins over FCS opponents? The only team in spitting distance to overtake FSU was Oklahoma, and beating up on LT wasn't near good enough to make them #1.

Against a team that almost exclusively runs the triple option. Against a team that executes the triple option so well they've posted one losing season in the last 12 years with it. Against a team with two total completions and 20 total passing yards.

Is it that hard to comprehend that when a team exists to solely run one scheme, and they run it to near perfection, that of course they're gonna pile on one type of yardage?

>No first place vote for Auburn

How fucking delusion are people to think we aren't the best team in the nation? Because we give up a lot of points on D? What a fucking joke. We literally have an unstoppable offense, on the ground and through the air. For fuck sack we have 4-5 guys alone on our offense that could win the Heisman. Is there any doubt that Auburn will win it all this year? The AP is such fucking shit.
>>

In all fairness, Georgia put up the exact same scoreline as Auburn and did it against a team that's a lot better than Arkansas.

I have a feeling we'll be seeing Coker sooner than later

I think they're holding him out of the starting QB position because (a) Sims earned his shot and it's his position to lose, and (b) his skill at reading defenses isn't quite where Saban wants it.

also think he would have played against WVU late if they'd established a more comfortable lead

Personally, my biggest concern with the team is the piss-poor play of the secondary.
>>
>>51928456

That Sims dude made some pretty poor throws. Wasn't coker supposed to start but he got in trouble or some shit?
>>
>>51928189
Don't worry, the Buckeyes have a chance to move up in the rankings if they beat Michigan St. and possibly against Michigan if they aren't a dumpster fire again.
>>
>>51928500
Don't recall anything about being in trouble, there was just a shitload of speculation in the local media because Saban didn't reveal who the starter would be until 48 hours before the WVU game

and yeah, Sims' throwing on the run was terribad---the game is replaying on the SEC network as we speak
>>
>>51928566

There's no rush, all we have to do is outlast everyone else, there's 4 open spots for the taking
>>
>>51928603
I'm not nearly as worried about the defense as I was last year. I'm confident that the secondary will be much improved simply from the move to man coverage. The only hole I can see on it is middle linebacker. There's a lot of really good young talent on this team especially at all the skill positions.

My observation is that, for whatever reason, Auburn only tries as much as it has to. Think 2010: best team in the nation, yet beat three unranked opponents by 3 points. Or 2013: few if any blowouts. It's hard to vote for a team that refuses to win by more than a few points, which is why it took so long for them to get into the polls.

Just because they decided to cash in and have the SEC network doesn't mean they don't still support their same ol media darlings from yesteryear. Just rewatched the Georgia/Clemson game and I've decided that Georgia is going to win the national championship this year. Their defense is unbelievably dominant (thanks to their new Defensive Coordinator they poached from FSU) and with all those RBs their offense can wear out any other defense in the country and score at will. having Gurley and Chubb on the team is like having 2 hershall walkers.

Georgiafag here, I REALLY wish everybody would slow down with this shit, as we never live up to expectations when expectations, and ESPN has been sucking our dick nonstop the last 2 days hardcore.

Yes, our RB corps is stacked, yes, we have a beastly Def Front 7. But the latter didn't bother showing up in the 1st half, Richt & Bobo didn't bother utilizing the former properly in the 1st half either, our secondary is green as fuck, half our receivers are still out injured and who knows how Mason will look and progress over the course of the season. I mean it was just one game, at home. I was surprised how the OL dominated but part of that was Clemson's D being on the field the ENTIRE 2nd half.

Sure, there is reason for optimism, as long as it's cautious, but that old faggot calling into Finebaum talking about a return to 1980-83, ugh. Embarrassing.

Everyone is trashing Blake Sims and all he did was have a record setting performance.

>Alabama quarterback Blake Sims had a record-breaking debut vs. West Virginia. Sims, who finished the game by connecting on 24-of-33 passed for 250 yards, secured the school record for most completions and attempts of any quarterback in a debut game at Alabama.

Besides some ill timed throws (the INT and a few throws on the run) and his 2nd quarter confusion (which was fixed when they went up tempo), he was really really solid. One thing people don't seem to be appreciating is that he's been able to do something that none of the QBs at Alabama have been able to do: escape the pocket when theres pressure.

There were multiple plays that he extended by being elusive which AJ or whoever would have simply threw the ball away or taken the sack.

Blake Sims is undervalued.

>>
Serious questions

1. Why is Tennessee not ranked when they BTFO utah state
2. Why is Florida State ranked #1 when they struggled
3. Why does Notre Dame have to lose their way out of rankings every year?
4. How happy is everyone to see Alabama lose this year?
>>
>>52002500
1. Beating Utah State isn't that impressive, need more than just that. However that win certainly should put them on the radar.
2. Because they won the national championship last year. I personally don't they they deserve to keep that spot, but that's how it usually goes, defending champ stays there until they lose.
3. I agree that ND is often overrated, but they pretty consistently have good records each season.
4. I would be very happy to see bama lose, people need to just accept that Bama is on the decline.
>>
>>52002500
2) FSU didn't struggle, dingus. Just didn't BTFO a team that finished 10-3 last year. FSU never trailed, and OSU never even made a serious threat to take the lead. FSU outgained them by 100 yards.

Sometimes in not sure if some of you guys know college football, or sports in general, at all. Every game shouldn't be 60-3.

>>
>>52005717
No, this is a continuation of the story from the sting about the mandatory Title IX federal investigation. The new news is that the accuser finally was interviewed by FSU. It took so long because, according to the university, the accuser refused to be interviewed until now. Basically same shit different day. If FSU finds that her story isn't credible, everyone will say he's guilty and they're covering it up. Casher and Darby were already interviewed, and they're both still on the team, so I see no reason why anything bad will happen to Winston.

Okie state lost almost every decent player they had. Also, last year, FSU blew out every opponent they faced except for Auburn. This year they start with a close game against a middle-tier big 12 team that lost pretty much every decent player they had that kept their team afloat last year.

FERPA, another price of federal legislation is what keeps all of this private, not lawsuits. I suggest, humbly, that you look into this and learn more about it before commenting on its efficacy. As an FSU fan, unfortunately, I've had to look a lot deeper into it. I don't have issue with the Title IX process at all. My beef really comes in the suspicious timing of everything. 2013, Winston starts getting serious Heisman buzz, accuser comes out. During offseason, not a peep. 2014 football starts, all of sudden its back on the front page.

If UF wins every game but loses to FSU and FSU is undefeated, then yes, because FSU is undefeated defending national champs, and by definition, winning every game means UF wins the SEC East and SEC Championship Game.

You would probably need a 2-loss team to win the SEC championship game and not make the playoff

Who are your picks for teams on the decline?
Mine:
Oregon - Chip Kelly was a big part of their success and their pace doesn't seem as intimidating

South Carolina - Topped out the last few years but probably average 8-9 wins for the next several seasons

Clemson - See South Carolina

Alabama - It's only a matter of time before the offense becomes a tire fire and teams are learning how to pass all over them

Ohio State - Lost too much from last year and Urban Meyer hasn't proven he can sustain success
>>

Oklahoma plays in a power 5 conference.
Michigan State plays in a power 5 conference.
Oklahoma beat two top 10 teams.
Michigan State beat two top 10 teams.
Oklahoma lost some key players but is returning a lot of key players as well.
Michigan State lost some key players but is returning a lot of key players as well.
Michigan State had a better record than Oklahoma last year but OU played everybody in their conference while MSU missed out on Wisconsin and Penn State.
If they beat Oregon then you can say they are better but until then there isn't much of an argument for either side.

Except they literally won. Are you even fucking serious?
>>
>>52020191
I don't think people are comfortable with investing into LSU yet. They struggled a lot against Wisc and though they got the win, they didn't make it look like it was out of reach.

The more they win, the more that win over Wisconsin will count for. People are reserving their opinions on LSU until they've knocked out a few more Ws

I agree with you. I was just pointing out that this particular anon thought LSU got blown the fuck out, when they didn't even lose. It's one thing that /sp/ergs love to dismiss statistics, but to just blatantly say a win was a loss and a BTFO loss at that? This board is just absurd at times.

Not really.

What are the playoff implications for Oregon x Michigan State? There basically aren't any. Maybe a tiny bit if the committee has to choose between the B1G champion and the PAC12 champion.

Playoff diminishes the importance of the regular season, especially out of conference games. Though one could certainly argue it's a worthy price to pay.

>>
jesus this game is terrible
>>
>>52025425

Not necessarily. If Michigan State goes undefeated in the B1G and loses to Oregon, there's still a pretty good chance of making the final four. Whereas before they'd have taken a beating in the polls from which they'd likely never recover (not being Alabama) unless everyone above them loses. We're moving to a system now where all that really matters is winning your conference. One team gets left out from the "big 5" even in that case, but compared to the old system where there was all this pressure to be absolutely perfect, perfection doesn't matter as much.

It'll matter even less when we move to eight teams, as is obviously going to happen eventually.

>>
>>52025763
This. Playoff committee already said they will give some slack if your only loss was due to actually playing a decent OOC for once.
>>
>>52025763
how long are we stuck with the 4-team playoff for?

with an 8 team playoff all 5 major champions would get an auto-berth, making the CCG's basically round-of-16 tier games, which would be cool.
>>
>>52025719
two relevant teams, three teams you hear about once each year because they're playing on a Thursday, and 7 teams that could stop existing and no one would notice.
>>
>>52025960

My guess is either until an SEC team gets in despite having an obviously worse record than one of the big 5, or until an SEC team fails to get in over another team in a difficult decision.

Either way it'll be the SEC pushing for it first, count on it.
>>
>>52025960

TAMU, Baylor, Texas, TTU, TCU and UTSA are all decent teams. Houston is usually okay, though they suck this year. UTEP, Rice and SMU have all been known to pull off upsets and generally not be chopped liver.

Though, Texas State and North Texas are terrible, I'll give you those.
>>
>>52026147
By the way, Sam Houston State and SFA are both really good FCS schools that could beat a good portion of FBS schools.

>>
One of these two things are going to happen as a result of tonights game.Somebody gets injured beyond belief, resulting in a huge Suspension/Ref gate kind of thing,
Or somehow players from Washington are going to end up with the players from Nevada at some bar/club, and a fight is going to break out. This game is going to be pretty infamous though.

That statement could easily have been made about Florida State due to how shit the ACC is.

OSU is a mid tier Big 12 team and is the second hardest team on FSU's schedule. Baylor are faggots when it comes to scheduling though.
