Any vegans or vegetarians on /soc/?

Mentally vegan. I agree that in a perfect world, everyone would be vegan. But I love the taste of meat, so I'm not. I also think that there would be less car accidents if the speed limit was 120 km/h, yet I love driving 220. Am I a hypocrite?

My diet is mostly vegetarian but it is unintentional. Chicken is the only cheap protein in my area but I splurge on beef and lamb every now and then.

Two vegan ex girlfriends. No thanks.

I realise it's silly to judge a demographic based on personal experience, but veganism seems to stem from extremely liberal views, and extreme liberals are pushy, loud & unbearably steadfast in their beliefs to the point that it's impossible to have a rational conversation without tears & straw men flying everywhere.

If I'm not allowed to have chicken in my goddamn noodles on takeout night at yours, then you aren't allowed to pester me about your virtuous life choice at my place.

Just want to point out that people who go vegan for health reasons are very different than those who go vegan for the animal reason. The typical vegans are usually crazy and preachy but I know someone who went vegan because it's easier on their body because they have a lot of health problems. They're not anything like the other vegans I know and is more than happy to cook meat for you because they understand it

My gf is vegan b/c of Animal Rights, but for me it's about sustainability:

1) less fatty toxic crap in my body

2) less contribution to animal-based agriculture which consumes >80% of our land and water resources. We simply cannot support a system that takes 500 pounds of corn to deliver 1 pound of beef. It's ridiculously inefficient and frighteningly un-diverse.

3) animal-based agriculture impacts global warming more than all other causes combined.

And animal-based agriculture is subsidized so much that if you criticize it in the USA, then you can be prosecuted as a terrorist. No shit.

let's say a dog and a pig have similar inteligence (which isn't that far fetched, yes?).
Why is it acceptable to kill one but not the other?

I'd say I'm vegan about 90% of the time by choice for no other reason than my body feels better to me when I eat this way. The times when I'm not eating vegan it's most likely because I'm not going to be the asshole running people's good time for something that is essentially arbitrary. My friends and family make an honest effort to be inclusive and supportive but I'm not putting anyone down if it's not 100% to my preference. I can't stand other vegans and vegetarians usually because they are some combination of manic, preachy, and highstrung.

I know there's a lot of anthropomorphizing there, but even fish look like they're in pain as they suffocate in air. Every vegan I know is (a)n (ethno-) nationalist, ethno-supremacist, alt-righter, libertarian, traditionalist, abrahamist (judeo-christian, not islamic) conservative, republican, or some other combination of those, generally right-wingers.
They're also usually men going their own way, men's rights advocates/activists, pick-up artists, redpillers and other similar types of the so-called manosphere, but they're clearly a minority in that crowd as most of the people who fall into one or any number of the aforementioned groups, is either indifferent to veganism or absolutely opposed to it on the basis that it's a jewish conspiracy and/or an SJW thing.

Pretty much, yeah. It's possible to screw up and diet, of course, but there's significant toxic effects from dairy and flesh. Benefits too, but less benefit than simply eating vegan.
