I worked with prickly-pear cacti for my doctoral dissertation. Spending 6 years dissecting cacti pads and dealing with their spines/glochids leaves you with quite the impression.

I was working with an invasive insect that uses prickly-pear cacti as host plants. I was trying to determine what makes cacti good/bad hosts, then trying to predict the insect's distributions. Yeah...there's only so much you can do with lizard shit.
