I have six - a traditional American eagle chest piece and this traditional Japanese tiger being my two major pieces - but I got this one done about six or seven weeks ago. He's finally healed, but I'm babying the fuck out of this thing so I may not swim all summer.

Hopefully adding onto it by the end of summer as the artist wants to do more to it and I'd be honored.

The artist who did it was the one who got me into tattoos when I was 15 so given the fact I've been following his work for over a decade now - I told him that I wanted a traditional Japanese tiger and other than that, he had creative free reign as I trusted his work.

Paid out the ass for it but the quality is there.

Yeah...good work costs quite a bit. It's always a good idea to build a friendly relationship with a good artist. Sometimes they'll cut you a break. My appointment tomorrow is with an artist who hasn't inked me before. I'll post pics after my session.

Good work does cost quite a bit but also you pay for the name to if it's a famous artist.

My tiger's artist actually initiated wanting to build on it? Like he was cleaning it up and then told me that "it was one of his most favorite pieces that he's done in a while and that if I would be interested, he would love to add onto it." so I'm thinking that since I was such a chill client that he is going to cut me some slack as I have also discussed doing a huge backpiece with him. So he knows I am a repeat customer rather than just somebody trying to collect a famous tattoo.

I've learnt over time to let artists have a lot of freedom. My process now is to have a general idea and find an artist who I like the style of, who I think would also like the idea.

Sweet, finally a tattoo thread that took off.

I got this one about 2 years ago. Very happy with it. It was my first one, and while the shoulderblade-parts hurt, it wasn't that bad.

I wouldn't say it was bad per se, it was just the part that i definitely felt the most. I think the fact that it was my first tattoo also had to do with it. Overall nothing i couldn't handle.

My second one got very close to my inner elbow though, man i definitely felt that. Never getting anything that goes even near that place.

That also kinda has to do with the fact that i have a needle-phobia though.

I know what you mean about the collarbone! The wing of my phoenix extended to my collarbone and it was one of the weirdest experiences of my life.

It's as you said, it just vibrates through your entire body, as if the collarbone is a conduit for these soundwaves to travel through you.

And yeah, my "phobia" is more about a needle being slowly injected (and only really on the inside of my elbow). Being tattood just feels nothing like it, i completely agree.

Oh, I'm definitely taking him up on the offer to add onto the piece. That was decided within the few seconds of him explaining that he'd really like to add onto it. The only issue is that he isn't always in the area so I literally have to catch them at the right time sort of thing. He's already made sure that his assistant has kept in touch with me and because of things he said, I know that I'm on the top of the list for scheduling for when he comes out here.

And thank you! It was my first major piece and I've gotten nothing but praise for it. I mean, A conversation starter at bars doesn't count but when your tattoo hero compliments you on the pieces that you have - you're fucking done. Can't get any better than that.
