Also, it's really not as hard as people think to find 316 steel chinese devices. The options are generally stainless or chrome plated for metal devices, and if you get one that is stainless instead of chrome plated there are really only 2 choices of material used, 316 (Surgical Steel) and 304, both of which are relatively safe for skin and contain a bit of nickel and chromium as well as steel. 316 has molybdenum in the alloy aswell to prevent corrosion and make it less magnetic.

The main way to check if the stainless you get is 304 or 316 is to use an earth magnet against it. If it sticks it's probably either impure if it's very magnetic (larger iron and nickel content) and you got played or it's 304 if it is magnetic but barel y so.

Even three or four years ago getting a chinese device was a pretty risky bargain, but out of the 5 chinese devices i've gotten that were listed as stainless only 1 of which wasn't stainless and 2 were 304 (which is still fairly safe so long as you take it off and brush it clean every once in a while). The other 2 were genuine surgical steel and have been fantasic for the $18 and $22 I payed for them respectively.


TL;dr you can definitely get a good quality chinese device, and anyone who says otherwise is a goofy goober. You just have to be smart about it and check to see if the description and reviews seem legit.
