i only use one basic brush for the entirely of the painting at 100% opacity, agreed it leads to a plainness of mark but also not truly bothered with it and i dont want to emulate traditional texture, otherwise i would just paint

It could be my bias agaisnt digital since I believe digital marks all look the same by default, but maybe not. Nothing stands out about it or excites me.

Also I hate taking pictures of myself because I hate how I look and I'd like to minimize any perpetuation of my existence by the time I kill myself. So no selfie for you.

DESU op I don't really get the not mixing your paint stuff. I can kinda see the appeal of it being raw but it kinda leaves your forms weak. It's hard to read the mouth on your portrait and it comes off as kinda sloppy. I do however think you could have something more interesting your work felt more intentional. Threads like this are a great place for practice. I encourage you to keep on working and seeking true critique. Don't let someone who isn't interested in helping you advance push you from continuing your work.
